@armasaurusrex3158 back then, I wasn't even collecting for Warhammer Fantasy. I knew they were going to make The Old World someday, I was really a visionary.
Definitely going down the 3D printing road with this, especially since there are several factions I really want to collect up for the different playstyle options they give you as well as different aesthetics... as well as that GW put almost all of them in the 'legacy' corner.
Yeah ive already printed a whole bretonnia army with impeccably detailed models and am half way through doing orcs and gobbo's prob spent less than $200 in total (resin, stl's. etc.)
@@blackbriargaming5483 For Dwarfs I'm pry mixing a bit from High Lands Minis and Kyoushuneko Miniatures, given how close the latter's war machines are to the official sculpts (at least from the early 6th Ed days). I'd pry go Lost Kingdoms if/when I do CD but they're down the list since I really like stuff about the DE, Lizardmen, Skaven and VC.
Once upon a time I grabbed a bunch of great files for beasts of chaos that I never got to beyond painting up a minotaur banner bearer. Now they've got a second reason to see some life.
Great video, big fan of a logical selection process... however I chose Dark Elves because hydras and repeater crossbows. Aesthetics and lore are my criteria hopefully there will be an old world set up for ANZAC Cup!
I was ready to start a Slave to darkness army for AoS, but I like the Old World better so going for Warriors of Chaos. I really like the new sculpts. Only issue is I have just finished an iron warrior army, so I don’t want to paint armour anymore. So I will start by marauders and mounted marauders (using blood reavers)
Happily Chaos Dwarfs have a lot of good representation in the 3d print world ranging from very classic looking 90's style big hatted Babylonian style chorfs (which I prefer - I've ordered a few Fabelzel sculpts) to more modern evil industrial Forgeworld-esque styles. Basically something to cater to every taste.
Owning finished Brets, Wood Elves, Dwarfs and Skaven, all around 4k Points, i will pick up High Elves for my Old World Army Project. Other Option was Vampire Counts, but i don´t own a 3d Printer and really want the Highland Miniatures VCs. So maybe when i decide to start a second Hobby aka 3d Printing
I am new to the Old World, in my teens I played Warcraft 2 and Warcraft 3 and read lots of fantasy books and my most favorite faction is definitely Orcs and Goblins. I am very much looking forward to painting them in the grimdark style with lots of mud and blood on their faces. I was also very excited for The Dark Elves and Chaos Dwarves ( yeap, I am and have always been on the evil side). I will be interested to see how you build Chaos Dwarves army and what sources you use. Also, such a great video.
All great army picks!! Orc and Goblins are spectacular. I have about 10k points of so of them, from multiple generations of miniatures. Nothing beats them. Keep an eye on the channel to see them in the future!
I started collecting Skaven back when AOS was starting and most kits gave you the option to use either round or square bases, and i picked squares just because i thought the big clanrat units would look nicer. Since they havent updated most of the models in 10-20 years i just have to wait for GW to release their rules for Old World and boom, i have a full army to use lol
Good call on the Legacy factions. I want them in too, that people make new armies with them as well.. I don´t play any, I play O&Gs - as they are the most fun and best looking IMHO.. But i want those "Legacy" to be part of the fun.
Seven months on, I am still looking for some chaos boys :) I like this process for choosing a faction, especially the part about what other armies I have recently painted.
Would you reccomend a resin or plastic printer for starting out with 3d printing minis? I want then to look good but also be playable and not too brittle and I'm struggling to decide! @blackbriargaming5483
Mantic Games has an Abyssal Dwarves line that fit into Old World perfectly. The only thing you're missing are the hats which, admittedly, is a catastrophe.
Going heavy with dwarfs and chaos warriors, also planned skaven but since I can't use stormfiends from vanguard box, i will leave them for AoS 4th edition
Kinda funny I already know what I want for factions. I play elves in aos, 40k and now tow. But watching you go over them all is a lot of fun. I'm still sad dark elves will remain legacy though
Please cover how you will be doing a chorfs army as thats my first choice but i feel ill end up going with dwarfs as its too hard to source chaos ones.
What 3d printer do you have? I'm interested in (when I have the money and less backlog) doing either brets or TK and they both have some good 3d print options to pair with the good plastic. But after that I'm def looking into OW and 40k stuff that can be enhanced with 3d printing.
I'd have mentioned giving some consideration to what other armies are represented by others you are most likely to be playing with. I liked the look of Beasts of Chaos but two others I know really want to go for them. Would get a bit boring if half the people you play with all are using the same faction!
Indeed Vampire Counts have no shooting at all (except from potential spells and some banshee/terrorgheist shrieks). Also, I put my Errantry Crusade Bretonnian army into the "Combat" category. Missile weapons are so dishonorable. :)
You sure can! Depending on which way you go it'll get pricey, but you can get clever with unit fillers to bring that cost down. Source 3D printed bases off ebay or a number of other sources. Or get conversion trays for round to square bases, so you can use them for both systems 😊
I still believe Vampire Counts should be the 10th faction. Vlad and Isabella are around at this time in lore (i dont think the vampire wars has kicked off yet though), mousillon is still making bretonnia look cool, neferata is still doing the lamia stuff and the strigoi are always a problem. If models are an issue, most of them have been updated in aos so they should still have the moulds and vlad, isabella, konrad and the older Vampire sculpts are still a fan favourite. And do i even have to mention Krell? (Screw kemmler)
Ha ha! I've even got an EC army now! I even started writing the script!!! I can. I really can. I hereby promise that I will make this video before the end of February 😊
I think you have put wood elves in too much of a corner. In 8th they were forced to go shooting heavy as it was pretty much the only viable build but they can do great all cavalry lists which are speed/combat orientated and tree spirit focussed armies can have a real mean spirited/evil vibe to them. I also think you are overly generous to shaven - for instance they don't fit a civilised style. Edit: In retrospect the above probably came across a bit negative. Love the content and glad you're doing TOW. Having played a few different Warhammer fantasy armies I find the wood elves are actually quite diverse and interesting compared to some factions and feel they are often misrepresented because of what they were like in 8th Ed.
Good take! And very reasonable. I'm low key collecting wood elf metal models so I'm ready for when their Army box drops to test thos theory. So rest assured i love them just as much 😅
@blackbriargaming5483 sw will die, they have paper armour but getting a charge off, should clear a front rank. I'm so keen to see the high elf box contents! What army you going to play
Nah GW ain't gonna FOMO me into another game that will barely be on life support. People are still losing their minds over not being able to get anything for Legions Imperialis. You want rank and flank, Kings of War has been right there this whole time not treating its customers like a combination of a crack addict and a battered wife.
The internal politics behind the core and legacy faction seperation is breathtaking. Specialist design studio cannot "compete" with the main studio i.e. AoS minis can only be sold for AoS. Given how self-sufficient the warhammer fantasy community is (supported a dead game for a decade), I love how the collective reaction has been, "Um, no."
A year painting a crazy army? I painted over 2 hours every day last year and got 25 Tomb Kings Skeleton Warriors done and a couple of single models. So see you on the battle field in maybe 5 years! :)
The debate on the quality of old minis. Keen to hash that out in a video. TK infantry for example. In my mind, they're perfect for this game. You'll find that most long term fantasy players aren't into the overly detailed AoS aesthetic at all. Looks silly in ranks.
On! And Orcs & Goblins is perfectly adequate and diverse. Certainly compared to any of the combat factions. Just off the top of my head they've got nine different shooting units... soooo...
@@blackbriargaming5483 Yeah the AoS miniatures are of a higher quality, they do benefit from modern technology that the 20 year old skeletons didn't have at the time.
But what if you're the Dad?! Gamers got old and we're here for the nostalgia. There hasn't been a good miniature made in the last ten years boy! (Old man grumbling)
Step 1: look in my attic
Step 2: find Wood Elves, Vampire Counts, Tomb Kings
Step 3: play those

Dark Elves with Cold Ones and Cloaks for scales.

What are exactly legacy armies in old worlds. Officially not supported armies or armies that are not currently in the first plan of games workshop?
How to choose a faction:
1. Pick either TK or Bretonnia.
2. There will be no second step for the next several years.
