You made the right choice. Yes, the No-Date Sub has become a little boring after all these years but let's not lose sight of why we fell in love with it in the first place. It was and is and will always be the best looking watch of all time! Don't ever get rid of it.
I just sold 3 watches I loved for a grail I wanted for a looooong time. Some watches simply look better in our collection than they do on OUR wrists. The Sub definitely works for you and you can’t beat the most iconic watch.
I too like to keep everything as original as possible. Back in 2006 I bought my 16710 BLRO (Z serial number and no holes) and my family and friends thought I was crazy since I already had 3 Rolex watches. Yes, it's a crazy hobby. Fortunately, I just remove couple of links and it fits my wrist perfectly.
RIP Pepsi. I totally get it in terms of fit - it’s the most important non-negotiable. I’ve also struggled with shifting wrist sizes based on diet and training 🤣
I currently have a 41mm black sub date, previously paid extra via grey market for Kermit mk1, but ended up not loving the shade of green so went back to sub date. Would you stick with what I have or change to Kermit mk2/ Pepsi jubilee 2019 onwards. Seeing your no date it does look very clean and classy
Just found your channel and I saw the video of you after picking up the Pepsi in Asia. You seemed over the moon with it. Feels like that should have been a keeper given the work you put in to get it.
@@SteelmoonWatchesdo Rolex make half size links? Or does an aftermarket company make them? Or if the bracelet has any stretch you could have it tightened up which would may make enough of a difference to get your size right.
Great RUclips and insta. 👏 just picked up a 2005 no holes 16710 Pepsi. Very clean, full set, original receipt and Rolex service card. Paid 11.5 USD. Did I get a good deal?
I’ve had a brand new 124060 sub for two and a half years now. Wear it most days - unless I’m doing something where it might get damaged - and it still looks pretty much as new. I find the glidelock to be a godsend. The watch never ‘not’ fits right. I also look at the watch every single time I put it on and think ‘Damn. That’s a good looking watch.’ It’s the best version for me. I have friends who have other subs, and after side by side comparisons they’ve said the same.
Same!! Absolutely love my 124060. As a bonus, don't you just love how sometimes when the light hits the bezel just right, it appears like a grayish or ghosted bezel? I love that!
Wow, I'm having the same dilemma with my Explorer 2 2021 version and not quite fitting on the wrist, thinking about switching it to glidelock but doesn't feel right to mess with OEM. Also has SD43 but it's a bit too thick and I can't seem to get comfortable with it too. I'm avoiding the black Sub41 date, but it's starting to make sense why it's the highest selling model. It's just perfect and maybe the boring watch for me.
I don't think anyone else on youtube conveys the trials and tribulations of being in love with watches quite like you. You're going to give me a complex about watch fit though!
Hate that feeling when you just know it’s not going to work. Did you ever try the 16710 with hollow end links? I have the same sizing issues and hoping that is the solution 🤞
I think you’re a perfect candidate for a 6 digit GMT. It wears much closer to a BB58 than a Sub 41 and recently when I went to try on one the AD told me there are two on the fly adjustments 1- half a link adjustment and then 2 - 5MM easy link adjustment. I think those two would more than make up for the lack of Glidelock. The other option is OF Daytona.
Couldn’t you buy an existing oyster link and take it to a metal smith to somehow change the side to an equivalent of half link? Or drill more holes in the clasp?
I’ve kept up with your watch journey and it also seems that you’ve always gone back to the “less is more” approach with the Rolex black dial/bezel no date/date style. Thoughts?
Great video Michael! You're not the first and most likely not the last watch aficionado who, after a long journey, came to the conclusion that a pre-ceramic, no-date Sub is the answer to all questions. One just has to learn to accept it ;) Any by the way, Michael Stockton did not only write a wonderful review of his 14060 some years ago, but also did a great comparison of a 14060 and 16710, both article can still be found on Fratello - which you may know anyway. Cheers
Really enjoyed this video and I understand why that wasn't an easy decision. But perhaps you can help me with mine; I've owned a Rolex Submariner since 2006, absolutely love the watch, but am picking up my dream watch (one I've waited two years for), the James Cameron Deep Sea in two weeks. Even though I have 7 1/4 inch wrists, I like larger watches (also own a Blancpain Air Command chrono from 2007) which is a hair larger than my Sub. My question is this: should I keep my vintage Sub or trade it in for the 50th anniversary Sea Dweller which just has that much more girth and pizzaz, IMHO. My AD is telling me to keep my Sub, add the Deep Sea and perhaps get the SD43 down the line...the reason I'm considering trading it in is its always felt just a bit too small on my wrist. What's your advice?
Thank you very much! Liked, subscribed and shared. My absolute favorite RUclips channel by far. I own a 14060M, 16710 SEL and a 16610 SEL (yes I love the original Rolex design). The fit is off by just a hair between any of them, but it’s ever so slight. It’s just something that you get used to tbh. My biggest question is, how will my 113400 OP39 Blue fit as compared to my collection? It arrives in a week and I am both anxious and quite nervous!
Did you consider wearing it on a strap? There are some really nice straps out there. I probably would've stuck it on a top-level suede or canvas strap.

Sold my James Cameron to put towards a 2020 black steel Daytona, which I have now had five months but I’m on the fence about selling it on as yes it looks nice. The size is nice, but the thing is so hard to actually read clearly at a glance to tell the time low light, the sub and the GMT, you just instantly click your risk, and you can see the time lovely and clear, no fussy face with tons of writing on it. For that reason, I think I will be selling my Daytona bank the money. Get a 21 onwards Pepsi. I have had my name down at my A.D. for two years but it looks like I might have to pay the annoying overs to get one.
I don’t know if you have tried 4digit sub or gmt they are like butter on the wrist. Can’t tell you how many times I tried to keep a 5 digit and just went back to one of my 4 digits.
Hey Michael, nice chatting with you about this topic on IG. I was waiting for this exact video on the 16710 vs 14060m. I'm considering an SEL as well for the 16710 and see how that fits me. If it doesn't, I'll consider a Steel Reef extension link like someone in the comment mentioned. Really want to make the 16710 work because of the flexibility of the bezel color. With that said, 14060m is just such a clean watch. It's definitely going to be my 2nd rolex. Thanks for sharing as always!

Thing about the Pepsi is you can’t wear it all the time because it’s too colourful and attracts attention. The 14060m is my choice too. Clean, no nonsense, understated. I too can’t stand people wearing their watch above the wristbone!
Michael, the Kermit fits you better than the Pepsi because the case back isn't flat like the Pepsi. If the Pepsi starts feeling tight a flat caseback will suction the whole case onto your wrist making it feel even tighter whilst the Submariner will give you some breathing space on the wrist and will not stick to the wrist like the Pepsi. The cases have a similar profile but the Sub is slightly taller which is why it wears differently on the wrist. Remember, one is a dive watch, the other is a pilots watch. This small detail is what gives the Submariner the 300m water resistance as opposed to 100m on the GMT.
Hi Michael, I've never had any interest in the Pepsi, so I may be biased in saying I love my no date and would have chosen to keep it. It is a very comfortable watch and goes with most occasions. Regards, John
Not sure if i should really tell you as you sold it already. But there is this company steel reef who does an aftermarket easylink for 5 digits. Maybe it is something for you.
its a real shame when you realize youre one of the unfortunate folks that cant get the right fit on these 5 digits. im lucky to have the perfect fit on my 14060m. People notoriously have problems given the clasp size and either flip the clasp around or even remove and re-rivet the last link on the 6oclock side. Fit is everything. Selling it was a good move. always a good day when you drop a video. Cheers.
I prefer the look of the aluminum bezel over the muddled ceramic, but $12-13k for a watch with a 1960s technology bracelet is tough
