    When Rolex started messing customers around I turned my back on the brand and opted for Panerai. The Rolex hardly gets any wrist time. The Panerai is now my go to watch. You've made a great choice.

    GREAT!!! FANTASTIC!!! PAM 233. Panerai threw a lot of what Panaristi want in a PAM. Low profile, 44mm size, dome sapphire, 8 day power reserve, sandwich dial, GMT, quick strap function. I’m looking for one at a good price full kit myself. Most Panerai can be found at a bargain. As much as I like new case materials modern PAM’s are overpriced. Never buy new, and wait for a good price. Congrats cheers 🍻

    HaHa! I made it all the way to the end! Unless you're fabulously wealthy, having a very large luxury watch collection can sometimes not make any sense. It can kind of be stressful having that much money tied up in watches even if they are very liquid. It's a lot less stressful and can still be a lot of fun to collect more affordable budget friendly watches. As long as you don't let your ego get in the way.

    Great to see you having an amazing piece on your wrist! Panerai 233 is like no other Panerai and I doubt there will be another Panerai like the 233 (this one has a soul IMO). It needs to be seen and worn to appreciate what is has to offer. It also is a lot more slimmer so doesn't have that huge look which all other Panerais have so fits a smaller wrist really well too (like mine). Enjoy it in good health. And if you find that mantle piece please do share so that I can pick one up for myself hahaha

    If one wanted just one Panerai, the 233 is definitely up near the top of the list of contenders! I don't have a 233 yet, though it is likely my next purchase. I went the other way in Panerai ownership and acquired nearly a dozen of them. Somewhere in the collection are all the elements of the 233, just not so nicely embodied in the one watch. As similar as they all are to each other, I find each one in my collection has their own unique aspect. Wouldn't have guessed a few years back that more than half my collection would be Panerai, but here we are!
    IMO, things to love about the 233... The right balance of wearable size while remaining true to Panerai's original larger aesthetic... the crown guard is iconic... sandwich dial is a must... the domed crystal adds a whole other dimension to enjoy... manual wind just feels so much closer to the origins of mechanical watches... (traveler) GMT has to be my favorite complication for practical usage... not just hacking but zero-reset seconds is a really nice, and under-rated feature... power reserve is useful and much more symmetrical than some implementations... great color combo (not such a fan of the fauxtina present on other models)... overall symmetry missing on many of the Luminors (having a "9" but not a "3" bothers me, if I stop to think of it)... display back for greater appreciation... great, now I've just talked myself into buying one sooner than planned!
    I'm wearing my PAM 200 today, white gold Radiomir with the same movement, as well as sharing many other aspects. Almost as perfect as a single Panerai as the PAM 233 would be!

    Point of contention with the term faux patina. All lume does not have to be white. If you simply look at darker lume as being a different color, that helps. If a watch is legit trying to look like an old watch, like there are other elements of forced ware, or maybe even if it’s a direct copy of an old watch, yes you could say faux patina, but the 1033 is not trying to do this.
    Now, if someone just doesn’t like how the darker tone looks with the other colors, that’s fine too. Certainly the 1033, to stay with that example, would look a lot more crisp with white lume, but tan lume compliments the blue very well too.

    Good to see you back with a watch, and the 233 is a nice piece. Been eying for years, nearly got one but then bought a Submserible instead which looks plain and is now for sale. Long time subscriber first time asking a question: I'm planning to buy my first lux watch during my upcoming trip to Japan. I'm a big fan of Panerai, and my wife already owns one. However, I'm also considering a used Piaget Polo G0A47014. I would love to hear your thoughts and if you were in my shoes with a budget of GBP8k what would you go for? Thank you

    • @SteelmoonWatches
      @SteelmoonWatches  6 месяцев назад

      Thanks mate. We all like different stuff, it’s you who has to look at it and wear it, and check the time. I like Panerai’s a lot, and the Polos are very good looking too. For 8k though, I’d probably be tempted for a Submariner or GP Laureato lol.

    Michael, awesome choice. I’m going PAM01312 as I need a PAN in my collection. Tried one on the other week but I’m split between the PAN or the new white dial Speedmaster, both similar price but can’t afford both (yet). I will have both one day, but which first???????

    Michael, i forgot to ask. If you were going to buy 1 Rolex, then What do you think of the new grey & black GMT? It’s got some things I like as I mature in life. 40mm, more interesting than a 41m submariner. Looks good on jubilee or oyster and its dimensions are more old school. It’s boring to some BUT it’s different and suits my taste as well as being an original new colour scheme that you can call your own. It’s the perfect one and done from the Rolex collection..

    I definitely feel you with being trapped with Rolex. When I drift and look at other watches I think about the money lost if I were to sell and makes me drift right back.
    Right now I'm trying to convince myself the Exp 1 would be a good brother to the BLNR but is it because I don't want to look at anything else but Rolex? It's a hard thing to get yourself away from.

    Michael, what a feeling. To actually let go of that artificial grip that Rolex had on us for over a decade. To wear a watch that you actually appreciate for what it is rather than the residual price or the hollow challenge that’s attached to buying a Rolex. No more bs to AD;s just to be considered for something that is vastly over priced AND over hyped!! I sold my Rolex’s too, the feeling of being a follower, the feeling of worrying when you you wear it in the UK, the feeling of knowing that Deep down inside you feel such a bitch (sorry for the language) for allowing yourself to be sucked in to something so false and something so meaningless is such as relief to let go of… if the truth be known, the Rolex spirit died the moment they went to ceramic bezels and super cases. BUT, you are free to buy what ever you want now AND! I have to admit, my Apple Watch is a different experience and a better experience than I expected. There’s a freedom that you cant explain when you sell your Rolex’s. Substance over ego, strength over insecurity, experience over naivety. Whatever it is, something inside knows it feels right 😊 keep buying the watches that move you…

      Well said great stuff. Very true and this is how I felt a lot with That brand. I think eventually I would have one watch from R and that’s it. Life is too short to be jumping for all the rolex watches. The term Rolex is for the masses is starting to ring true.
