I like your pick. The jump-hour hand is the feature I use the most as an airline pilot. But I think you misspoke at 1:41. The 16710 is not a quick-set date. A quickset allows you to adjust the date by simply turning the crown. The 16700 is like that. On a non-quickset you have to turn the crown and rotate the hour hand over & over, like your 16710.
Here's a little tip on Duty Charges, if you're sending it back over the boarder for repairs, you can get a (declaration of ownership) Just go to the customs office at the airport and ask them for one. It's a green card that proves you owned the watch before it went over. I had a Glycine i sent back for warranty repairs.
Gotta say I'm not normally a dog person but Bulldogs are a breed I quite enjoy (friend has an English bulldog) Always good to see Mr Bond. He says that and it's like oh my look at the frenchie puppy! like I said not a dog person but bulldogs are a definite yes in my books.
Love how you've talked about the difference between spec's, the look of the piece and importantly focused on the feeling on wrist because at the end of the day that really is the main factor we look for! So glad to see you're enjoying your grail!
If you are talking about the alignment of the bezel insert triangle with the 12 o'clock dial position, and assuming this is basically constructed like the 16610 Sub, you can fix that easily. I have done it on the 16610. Just pop off the bezel, being careful not to loose the click spring (which is different from the Sub since 16710 is bi-directional), pop out the Al insert and re-align. I first installed the bezel w/o the insert then pushed in the insert while aligning. There are RUclips videos showing how to remove the bezel and insert.
My biggest mistake was not getting my grail watch sooner. Cheaper substitutes don’t work in the watch hobby IMO. Rolex makes the best GMT’s. Best regards to you and Mr. Bond.
Glad you are enjoying your watch. I owned a Coke 16710 from 1993 to 2019. I wasn't a collector back then and it was pretty much my daily wear for at least 15 years. I wore it enough to wear out the bracelet. I was a merchant marine officer then and never once worried about the beating it was taking in a shipboard environment. I'm sure I banged it into steel structure thousands of times. I only had it serviced once. It got too expensive to service again so I decided to sell it as people were willing to pay crazy prices for them.
Agree with some of the previous comments. Very easy to pop off the insert and seat it back properly. It's one of those little things you can't "unsee" but such an easy DIY fix. Also, I would tend to believe it's a replacement insert given the condition. It's very easy to mark up. Finally, like you, I find my 16710 sits so nicely on the wrist and I never have to fiddle with it.
Congratulations on your purchase... Had mine since 1989 dark blue black and red bezel, but got it changed in 2006 for plain black back then the AD let you keep the original bezel think now they send the original back to Rolex... The bezel can get dirt and grunge under try soaping your hands up and rubbing the watch in your hands warm water done this many a time with mine and always made the bezel operate better. Your AD will be able to fix the alignment in minutes while you wait. The accuracy you quote amazing ...
Misaligned bezel can be easily aligned, there are many RUclips vids about that. The 16710 is waterproof, just test it once a year or so and you can swim with no problem, just rinse it with clear water if you went in the sea. It is a tool watch after all. Wear it in good health.
The 5 digit reference numbers are amazing watches. When you own a vintage Corvette, you will innevitably have to replace a windshield wiper, install a new wheel cap, change the oil etc... and you probably won't send it to GM but do it yourself. It's part of the experience of owning a vintage car and part of the appeal as well. That said, with $30 worth of tools and 15 minutes of your time you can remove the bezel, detach the bezel insert, replace the bezel and align + press the insert. Contrary to popular opinion, these watches are not made of radioactive plutonium and you don't need a PhD in horology to work on them :) they actually have simple designs and are built to be serviced easily.
I agree! How a watch feels on the wrist is incredibly important and correlates to both satisfaction and length of ownership. I wore inexpensive watches for years. When I first tried on a Rolex, I understood why they are so desired. It is like the VW/Porsche analogy in your video. I now own four Rolexes and wear them more often than any other watches in my collection, as they are a pleasure to wear (especially my 36mm Explorer and 36mm OP). Cheers!
I have had a similar experience after obtaining some "grails". I will say, another mountain top usually pops up shortly after giving you something else to save and strive towards.
I've got a 2001 16710. I understand the desire for the holes case and excellent SEL bracelet (nice, thin clasp). As for the bezel, it's your bezel insert that is misaligned. It's is very, very easy to fix yourself. Stop obsessing over it, buy a cheap bezel knife/tool, and fix it. Your insert has been changed (that is NOT a 20 year old insert), which is why it's misaligned. While you are at it, buy another color that is more versatile and have some fun. I've got a few colors for my watch, with grey being my favorite.
The GMT Master is a truly iconic watch. I went for a 16700, last of the original Master's. I find the true quickset date more useful than an independent GMT hand.
Congrats mate. Positive thing about used and slightly worn out watch is you don't care do much about new scratches, every next one gives more character. It's accurate and this is the most important things. I have never had any of my watches recognised and I am kind of glad that they stay under the radar. I enjoy your videos more end more. Keep up the good work.
The 16710 is such a beautiful watch and I am so happy for you that you able to find this one. I think the sub $2000 range is a busy category, especially if you include used watches. Having said that Monta is a name that comes to mind and Stowa. I am looking forward to seeing what you find. 😊👍
For me, my first Pepsi was in 1967. An extremely accurate watch. My old GMT was on my wrist riding my push bike across the continent of Australia twice. Hour after hour, day after day, week after week, month after month that Pepsi was bouncing around on my wrist. Keeping as good a time as as my 2022 $10,700 Pepsi today. I will never understand these buyers that keep their watch in a safety deposit box. What’s the point? So the watch gets some scratches on it. The watch is made to wear. Not just to worship when your looking at it when your home alone. For me it’s 56 yrs. Wearing a Pepsi on my wrist. It’s always been a part of me. The next time you spend over ten grand on a Rolex. Drive across the border the closest town to you. Have your watch overnighted to your motel. With the watch on you driving home. Then have the dealer ship you the box, and the warranty card in your pocket.
Stunning watch. I have the 2002 Y series in the black bezel. I bought it back in 2015 (before the total skyrocketing of the prices) for my wedding. It has been my daily one since then and until few weeks ago (I went for a Tudor BB GMT). Don’t worry about the swimming / how sensitive is. I used mine for swimming, hiking even during renovation of the appartement with dust and hammer drills . Never lost time after being serviced and as long as is tested for waterproofing you are good. Also you can buy the other colour bezels as this version was a 3 watch’s to 1. Maybe having the black bezel insert will be your “dressier” version of the GMT II. I am hoping to be able to source the Pepsi bezel.
Hi, nice collection your building there... I am glad you appreciate now the purity and soul of the brand.. I really enjoy more the vintage look and the character that this pieces brings, I can only suggest you to try the real vintage pieces. The Plexiglass ones.. those add the most incredible feel and look... and the best part is that they fly under the radar... And by the way.. it’s more expensive to replace a sapphire glass than a plexi one and also it’s easy to just polish the plexi than to have to replace a sapphire one for just a scratch or a shatter. Try a sapphire moonwatch and a plexi one... you’ll understand what I am talking about... Keep growing the collection and enjoy the ride!!
The older versions, prior to the 16710 don’t have an independent 24 hand, that’s what you meant. “Quick set date” is just tied into the jumping hour hand.
Have a watchmaker remove bezel, remove insert and realign insert. It’s not hard for a capable watchmaker. We do that on these all the time for clients. Rolex is the easiest watch to change inserts on
Great review! I thoroughly enjoyed it. And I am very glad that you are enjoying and appreciating your grail watch. Furthermore, I can tell that you are really sincere about your feelings and how to approach to your audience with your honest emotions explaining your past 6 months experience. I truly get that. Thanks a lot and have a great day and hope to see you soon.
Thank you Alex. Some videos are harder to make than others. This one was difficult because I had so much to say but didn't want to have a bloated video:)
Oleg…nice video. The misaligned bezel can be easily fixed…you just have to pop off the bezel, remove the insert, place the bezel frame back on and snap the insert back on after you have correctly aligned it.
Don’t apologize you’ve always been a gracious host brother. Congrats! My watch / Rolex grail is the vintage the 6542 GMT... almost impossible to find and I can buy a home in the some states for its cost. Settled for the Steinhart homage and I’m content. Love the channel keep rocking!
Glad you are enjoying your 16710. Its classic. Take it to a local watchmaker and have them move the bezel. Its not complicated. Also, its not a “quick set” date. The GMT Master is quick set, or a Datejust. Enjoy your watch!
You state that it had a quick set date but you show the GMT hand being wound around the dial 24hrs before the date clicked over? The 16700 and the very last 16710's had a quick set date.
Excellent review and sharing your experience with your grail watch . Every time I see a watch like yours I think of Tom Selleck on the original Magnum P.I. And the Rolex Pepsi GMT he wears on that tv show . I’ve always loved this watch because of his watch and always thought it’s one of the most beautiful Rolex’s to obtain. Congratulations on yours and am happy for you that you’re enjoying this amazing 🤩 watch 👍🏻
If your bezel is still miss aligned it may have been replaced. Take it off remove insert. Put bezel on first. And snap on insert. (As compared to replacing insert and putting on bezel)
What occasion for buying this for yourself could have been more appropriate. So great to see more closeups of it. A true stunner. Cool bit of collecting philosophy at the end. Can't think of a hidden gem at the moment, but wish I had bought that limited Mido 1960 rainbow edition for $1K when it came out. You can't find them at all now under $2500. Great episode Oleg!
Ive got the exact same watch and i change the bezel often between coke pepsi and all black...its really easy once you’ve done it a couple of times just be careful the spring doesn’t jump out as its tiny.....i was advised first time to remove the bezel inside a plastic bag incase it launched its self...now i know what to expect its easy....only problem is i cant decide which insert i prefer and find that i change it every few weeks lol....sometimes the bezel doesn’t align when ive changed it so i just redo it and its perfect so i can assure you your watch isn’t defective.....not worth sending it back for that...love the vid thanks for making the content cheers m
Rolex 5 digit bracelets vary in "quality" based on age and use. The bracelet on my 16710 is pretty nice. Solid end links and that thin clasp is pure joy when you are keyboarding all day! Now I have also seen a no-date Sub bracelet that was stretched all to hell and jingly jangly because it was plum wore out. So my experience has certainly varied...
I am of the same mind. I feel that as long as you are happy and the +’s are more than the -‘s, being happy with your timepiece is the ultimate feeling. Nothing is perfect in a vintage piece. Thanks for your reviews and your transparent nature.
very beautiful watch! for the alignment of the bezel/insert, considering this watch is from 2000, the last person who had it might not have been rolex but another serviceperson/watch repairsmen. if you go to your local trusted watch repairsmen, they could realign the bezel for like $10. its easy, its 120 clicks. i had my own 116710 (gmt master ii ceramic in black) come back from my local watch service shop and it was initially misaligned, but i went back and they fixed it no problem. it has 24 clicks. if you google "gmt master bezel insert misalignment fix"and you can see how they do it. cheers!
4:16 Taking your watch to RSC would have that misaligned insert fixed in about 15 minutes, free of charge. The insert just wasn't popped into the bezel ring correctly. The idea of returning a 16710 over that issue is ridiculous. Anyway, I thoroughly enjoyed this video and hearing your perspective on the 16710. 12:26 It's my grail too. And achieving your grail, I find, is very freeing.
Great watch!! Always wanted one. I ended up with the 116710 instead Btw I don’t believe that is a quickset date. Quickest date is set from the crown directly vs having to cycle the hour hand through. In my experience using gmt watches a lot for international travel, the way the latest gen Rolex gmt sets the date is better. It can go forward or back with the time and change the date accordingly. I’m often crossing the international dateline and that feature is nice. Not so nice if you have to advance it 15 days tho!! Lol
Just pop the bezel off and re align it. It really is no big deal and you can easily do it yourself. There are plenty of videos on it on RUclips. Great watch and awesome grail
I think you could easily re-align the bezel yourself - look at london watch collector's channel, he recently did a video changing the bezel, should be easy!
The beauty of owning the 16710 is that you can interchange the bracelet from oyster to jubilee and also the three bezel combo where you practically have 6 different watches in one.
Beautiful timepiece. I too, have been lucky to attain both the 114060 and 116613LB. I get that X factor feeling with both, moreso with the Bluesy. I think it's the added PM weight that does it. After grail hunting, I bought a Seiko Flightmaster for $247 on NDC strap, and a Black Bulova Lunar Pilot on Chronisssimo straps total for $300. I like customizing the cheaper pieces. There is no middle mediocre micro ground for me. I love Tissot as a bang for buck brand and wear a Seastar TT on rubber in the hospital. I wear my 114060 to work too. As a medical worker, the Sinn EZM12 keeps calling me. Even though I count pulses with a seconds hand in 15 seconds anyways, the simple breakdown to clean is brilliant, a true tool watch. Scratch that Pepsi in good health my friend. ;)
Yeah for recognition your Gmt is near the top. That's one reason I got rid of my Steinhart pepsi gmt 39, I felt people would look and think Rolex (they don't) but I still felt like a faker.
You don’t have to apologize , if you love it and satisfied that is most important I have a Rolex date just I bought in 1988 and still work perfectly never did a repair can’t believe off course I don’t wear everyday but like 20 times a year. Rolex is expensive but you pay for the quality but I agree Rolex watches are over price nowadays
If you want a great cheaper interesting vintage watch (and I think you and I look around the same age) check out 1980s Tudor Prince Oysterdate - I bought a 1984 on oyster bracelet and it is a wonderful watch. So much character and style. 34 mm but wears similar to 36 mm Datejust.
Firstly congrats on your grail watch. This will not be your only nor last. A 5 digit ref Rolex is the best choice, and the 16710 is a fantastic GMT. However the date quickset is troublesome as you may quickly find out if you dont wear this watch daily. But if this is your daily beater, it is simply good for everything. With the experience of owning about 15 Rolex GMTs (yes all at the same time) i would recommend you the 16700 instead. Looks almost identical to the 16710 but has a more reliable and easier quickset function. Whatever it is, enjoy your GMT.
05:04 Very strange. Are these light reflections, or extremely poor finishing of the indexes? Look at the 6 o'clock index. See also on the imperfection on the tip of the hour hand (although this may be the fault of a dilettante watchmaker). Thanks, Oleg, for sharing your emotional process. As always, very interesting and pleasant. P.S. I like the new background. The left side of the frame is perhaps a tad too dark.
Great video. I’m constantly debating selling my 114060 and purchasing a 16710. 16710 is an amazing watch that is slightly under the radar. Plus you have the multiple bezel and bracelet options. Pepsi on oyster would be my pick. Sometimes I feel like the sub with its ceramic case can be a little blingy.
this video offers a lot of insight for watch beginners like me. I am currently saving up for a Tudor BB58 and I'm halfway there. But now that I'm getting closer to the watch, I feel a bit nervous to "pull the trigger". I am a little bit afraid to neglect all my other watches once I own the Tudor.
I just got a Tudor (41mm Black Bay) and neglected my other watches but not for long, to be honest. I tend to “match” my watch to what I’m wearing so that helps me wear my non-luxury watches. What I noticed is that my SARB033 looked microscopic on my wrist after mostly having worn the Black Bay for two weeks. Made me think about selling my SARB LOL. The BB58 is a smaller watch so you probably won’t have the same experience.
Really enjoy your content. Rarely comment, but had to today. I knew there was a reason I enjoy you so much…. 1. Corvettes and Rolex. My personal vices. 2. My English bulldog, Mr. Otis, really enjoys Mr. Bond. He barks when i watch your videos. 3. Acknowledging we all sound like assholes when talking about watches that cost > $10K…pros and cons….like the average person gives a crap. Bravo for having the insight. 4. Would love to see your thoughts on the DOXA 300T. Great brand heritage, Clive Cussler’s choice for Dirk Pitt, and
I have to agree. I have the same reference 16710 but a 2004 that I purchased in 2019. It's just too darn expensive. Don't get me wrong: I love the watch. But it's just too expensive. Try to get one now for less than $12,000. It's quite a challenge.
Great video! I am still awaiting my grail and I am thinking that this will be my last watch. I can’t imagine wearing a cheaper watch once I have my grail watch. Perhaps a daily beater say an Oris, a Seiko or a Casio G-SHOCK just for those occasions when the grail inappropriate or unsafe to wear. Enjoy your 16710 in good health! Tom
Lining up the bezel is a super easy fix. No need to return it. Google the fix on-line. People switch between bezels all the time between the 3 different colored ones.
It’s interesting that you prefer the ceramic Sub, but the pre-ceramic GMT-Master. You must be into something because I was thinking the same thing at the start of your video before you even mentioned it. I have an 114060 currently and would love to add a 16710 some day and feel that I probably prefer this model over the ceramic 126710 BLRO.
I’ve got a GMT Master 2 with the Jubilee bracelet and while my Sub with the adjustable bracelet is so much better for changing sizes as the day goes by, the Jubilee and the slight reduction in size from the Sub makes the GMT an extremely comfortable watch to wear. I tried several vintage watches in and they just felt cheap, the bracelets are too light.
To answer your call to action at the end of your video about watches under $2,000 that are hidden gems, I recommend the Grand Seiko SBGR001; it’s the most affordable automatic Grand Seiko without going completely into vintage. These were produced in the late ‘90s to early ‘00s so they’re be classified as neo-vintage if not modern.
Wait another dream watch! :) What happened to BB58 and Rolex Explorer? Guessed I missed out any updates! Wow! Get those watches in "before" tying the knot LOL! Congrats on the watch and especially on your engagement! Wishing you all the best!
Don't apologize. You worked hard for it. It coincides with your engagement. You get what you pay for. I am very happy for you.

That's a great tip! Thank you so much:)
Am I the only one who gets happy when he says “The one and only Mr Bond” 😂
Bond is also very happy lol
Me too. Im a bulldog fan boy. I own 2 American bulldogs.. aways thought the frenchies were cute little bastards.
A piece of watch history you can wear everyday and build your own memories. Perfect.
Well said Chris!
Love how you've talked about the difference between spec's, the look of the piece and importantly focused on the feeling on wrist because at the end of the day that really is the main factor we look for! So glad to see you're enjoying your grail!
Thanks brother! Keep up the great work on your channel:)
Never apologize for honesty. That's what we're here for.

That's exactly what I need to do. Thank you. I'll get to it. Just need to build up my confidence lol
Just lost my click spring a couple days ago.😮
My biggest mistake was not getting my grail watch sooner. Cheaper substitutes don’t work in the watch hobby IMO. Rolex makes the best GMT’s. Best regards to you and Mr. Bond.
I think I'll do a video about this exact topic in the future.
Glad you are enjoying your watch. I owned a Coke 16710 from 1993 to 2019. I wasn't a collector back then and it was pretty much my daily wear for at least 15 years. Rolex 5 digit sport watches fit like a glove.
Totally agree with your comments about “how a watch actually feels on your wrist”, Oleg - so often this is overlooked.
16710=Best GMT II ever IMHO. Spring Bar lugs , hell yeah! It's perfect. You are 100% correct.
Misaligned bezel can be easily aligned, there are many RUclips vids about that.
The 16710 is waterproof, just test it once a year or so and you can swim with no problem, just rinse it with clear water if you went in the sea. It is a tool watch after all.

Good taste! The 16710 is on my list of next two watch purchases. Congrats on the engagement!

You can always take it to a watchmaker, pop the bezel off and resit the bezel insert, which would be much cheaper than replacing the whole watch
Great video - love your honesty!
If your bezel is still miss aligned it may have been replaced. Take it off remove insert. Put bezel on first. And snap on insert. (As compared to replacing insert and putting on bezel)
In my opinion this watch is more interesting and beautiful than the 2020 version. Always old school. Many thanks for sharing.
I have a 16710 with a misaligned bezel. If you take it to a RWC they can take the bezel out and realign it within 5 mins. It’s no problem. 👍
Interesting piece. Regards.
Absolutely beautiful watch! Again congratulations on achieving your grail man.
Nice watch but I always found the bracelet lacking in substance and overall quality. Would have to choose the newer models.
Bezel insert seems to be a replacement. I would expect serifs on those numbers bro
Am I the only one who can't see a misaligned bezel??? It looks just fine to me.
Great watch!
I can’t see it either 👍
@@samuelball8775 I think this might explain why Oleg thinks Mr. Bond is a German Shepard. Didn't he used to wear glasses???
:- )
@@jb6027 haha 😆 👍
very beautiful watch! for the alignment of the bezel/insert, considering this watch is from 2000, the last person who had it might not have been rolex but another serviceperson/watch repairsmen.
if you go to your local trusted watch repairsmen, they could realign the bezel for like $10. its easy, its 120 clicks. i had my own 116710 (gmt master ii ceramic in black) come back from my local watch service shop and it was initially misaligned, but i went back and they fixed it no problem. it has 24 clicks.
if you google "gmt master bezel insert misalignment fix"and you can see how they do it.
You don't think your grail standard will now move up to where you will covet a watch in the AP, or JLC orbit?
Great watch!! Always wanted one. I ended up with the 116710 instead
Btw I don’t believe that is a quickset date.
Omega Constellation 1502. It was made from 95 til 2010, and it’s the oldest modern looking Constellation
Congrats once again on this beauty!
I think you could easily re-align the bezel yourself - look at london watch collector's channel, he recently did a video changing the bezel, should be easy!
great video, what's the brand of your polo, nice raglan polo.
You can always pop the bezel off and realign it if you want. One of the advantages of the aluminum bezel references.
The beauty of owning the 16710 is that you can interchange the bracelet from oyster to jubilee and also the three bezel combo where you practically have 6 different watches in one.
Exactly!!
If u had to make decision on 116610ln or or like new 2005 16710 pepsi. Which one would u chose?
It's not difficult to find replacement crystals for 16710?
Scratch that Pepsi in good health my friend. ;)
I agree, your model has 'soul'. I'm not a fan of the modern ceramic bezel, and the colors on the ceramic are not as rich.
It's your watch ⌚....value is in the eye of the beholder. If you like it keep it. Watches aren't an investment.
Great video again Oleg. Love the bezel on your GMT. Come on, tell us which one’s next ?!? 😆 Alpina looks interesting
Excellent stuff, Igor.
The new model is 5,000 -7,000 dollars more exp compared to a 16700 and 16710.
It is not a minor diff.
Yeah for recognition your Gmt is near the top. That's one reason I got rid of my Steinhart pepsi gmt 39, I felt people would look and think Rolex (they don't) but I still felt like a faker.
I had it recognized another time since the recording of this video lol
You don’t have to apologize , if you love it and satisfied that is most important I have a Rolex date just I bought in 1988 and still work perfectly never did a repair can’t believe off course I don’t wear everyday but like 20 times a year. Rolex is expensive but you pay for the quality but I agree Rolex watches are over price nowadays
It's very easy to pop off the bezel insert and realign it yourself
If you want a great cheaper interesting vintage watch (and I think you and I look around the same age) check out 1980s Tudor Prince Oysterdate - I bought a 1984 on oyster bracelet and it is a wonderful watch. So much character and style. 34 mm but wears similar to 36 mm Datejust.
Monta Noble. 1,700 US. Never seen one, but it’s on my radar as my next “affordable” purchase. I too, am focusing on that under 2K category
I like the French bulldog disappearing act at the beginning, doggie must’ve dropped a land mine of a fart, they’re famous for it 😂
Firstly congrats on your grail watch.
I need my watchmaker to service it and to wipe off those smudges 😠
@@24hourstime Yea, and you might want to buy him first a couple of these watchmakers' finger-condoms. Can't be too safe these days.
I have a standing offer of a straight swap for my 114060 for a 16710. I’m contemplating also.
this video offers a lot of insight for watch beginners like me.
Very nice watch - way better looking than the new one.
Thank you!
Tom
Beautiful watch, but more important the beautiful moment you kissed your dog. The bond between man and dog is bigger and better than any watch 👍
DOG > WATCH
I have that one from my grandpa. I need to service it. I’ve had it 20 years.
I to chose a 2003 16710 over the new ceramic version. its stunning.
I think a video on how you save and budget for your watch purchases would be interesting.
This is my dream watch due to the versatility of the watch.
Big shout out to you for actually wearing it day to day.
Congrats for this great watcn. We'll done y purchasing your grail. But I'm sure you will explore a new grail.
So pleased to see that the GMT was just what you expected and that it continues to delight.
Good to see the grail watch gives you a great wearing experience. The unanswered question is does Mr Bond like the Rolex as much as you do?
Bond likes it. But he LOVES the Seamaster!
Wait another dream watch! :) What happened to BB58 and Rolex Explorer? Guessed I missed out any updates! Wow! Get those watches in "before" tying the knot LOL! Congrats on the watch and especially on your engagement! Wishing you all the best!
