Man I hate seeing people hurt as much as anyone but a couple of these I think they were a bit extreme on the ejections. Mainly the Tennessee/Missouri one.
Kaleb Steelman I agree with ya. I like that they’re reviewing more of these plays now (to an extent), but some of the plays these last few seasons have been called targeting AFTER the offending player has initiated his move, and BEFORE the targeted player has done something to make it look like targeting. If that makes any sense.
I caught an interception once in middle school as a cb for a te post route, ended up getting knocked unconscious by the hb but this was before targeting was a rule. Im lucky I held onto the ball, but also, the hb had no malicious intent, its just how we were told to tackle back then. The opposing hb was the first person I saw kneeling over me when I came to, saying sorry and asking if I was okay. A lot of these plays are happenstance. It's the nature of the game.
That’s why they review targeting though. As tv viewers we get multiple shots of the hit, and can get it in slow motion as well. It’s different for a ref who only gets one look at it going full speed. So if they think it’s targeting, but are not entirely sure they’ll still call it.
Just noticed that at 13:31 you see a Clemson player playing hard and realizing his mistake as he did not celebrate, he knew he made a mistake. He is a part of 8-0 team winning my 25 at the moment and is hauling ass and did not celebrate and owned up to it. Now if we move on to the next play at 14:45 we see a player making the same type of play and celebrating even though he got ejected and losing by 46! With a 2-6 record. I am not a Clemson fan but this is why they’re a national championship contender every year they do not put up with nonsense. Personality and character (no pun intended) goes a long way.
I'm gonna have to stop you there. In the Clemson game the Clemson player didn't lead with his helmet nor aim at the players helmet. The returner lowered his head and plowed into the side of the Clemson players helmet. If you would of paid attention to the reply you can clearly see he was not leading with his helmet and was not the cause of helmet to helmet contact, the returner is the one who should of been called for targeting since he lowered his head and lead with the crown of his helmet to make contact with the defensive players helmet.
A lot of these “targeting” calls, are absolute garbage. When the offensive player lowers his head, the defender cannot do anything if he’s already launched. They need to redo the targeting guidelines pleaseee.
they need to take it out is what they need to do or make it a 10 yrd penalty and have a targeting 1 2 and 3 3 automatic ejection 2 you pick up 2 of these your ejected and 1 is just a 10 yrd penalty and the moment the offensive player dips there head below shoulders no targeting can be called there solved the most bullshit rule in all of football
@ImNotMad ButUR it's football lets ask how many players would rather be tackled at the knees or take a hit to the head sometimes i can guarantee you the answer is the head sometimes from at least 85% of football players i for one was one of them
Note 1: "Targeting" means that a player takes aim at an opponent for purposes of attacking with forcible contact that goes beyond making a legal tackle or a legal block or playing the ball. Some indicators of targeting include but are not limited to: Launch-a player leaving his feet to attack an opponent by an upward and forward thrust of the body to make forcible contact in the head or neck area Launching is a targeting call. You cant leave your feet and lead with your head and expect it to not get called.
As a corner back safety and defensive end for 9 years i never understood how or why you would ever lower your head my coach always taught me you can't hit what you can't see!
You could say the same argument from offensive side that they are just lowering their shoulders. However defensive players just shouldn't lower his head into a tackle that's asking to get called for targeting.
@@eddiebutler3194 I get what you're saying but I think they want to stop the lowering of the head where the crown is showing. that's the kind of stuff that can paralyze guys
10:30 Did anyone get the licenses plate off that truck that hit the poor guy. If so please report the tips to 1800 CRIMESTOPPERS. This man is considered to be dangerous so please do not confront him
You are a bold one right going low isn’t dangerous at all. No one has ever fucked their knees up and had career ending injuries while getting their legs taken out. Why do you think chop blocking is a penalty you clown shoe. You have obviously never played football. I’d rather be hit center mass all day then be running and have someone dive at my knees
The rule as a whole is fine, but very flawed. It should not be the case where all head to head hits are called targeting. 9/10 cases of head to head contact have to do with the offensive player dropping his head. Nothing the defense can do about that.
I agree the rule is terrible. In my opinion the rule should be saved for truly defenseless players attempting to catch a ball and that’s it because their focus is on catching the ball. Forget this shit on punts if you don’t call for a fair catch that’s on you. If you are a runner you are not defenseless so why there are multiple calls of that are beyond me. If the powers at be want to see rugby type tacking than take the helmets off of the players.

The announcer keeps saying “I don’t know what the defender is supposed to do”. He’s right. This is a tough situation because you don’t want anyone hurt and they’re still feeling out the rule. But have you ever played football? Good luck tackling someone without ever touching heads. It’s hard! Most of these are correctly called targets but some aren’t. I mean you can’t just move out of the way.
That's a super late fair catch signal by waddle for Alabama. You can't signal a fair catch 2 seconds before the defender is going to make contact with you running full speed and not expect to get thrashed...
Yes you can, the defender only has to change his direction, not stop on a dime, as long as the full fair catch signal is completed, you have enough time to not hit him.
Aiden Rae it’s fucking football. That’s why they have helmets on. 90% of these are not intentional. You can tell when it’s on purpose. You have obviously never played a sport if you think these dudes can just stop on a dime

I’m pretty fed up with the silly inconsistency of the targeting rule…..as a junior high football player we were taught "low man wins" thereby both defensive and offensive player was trying to win.
9:40 that return man literally lowered his head into it. That shouldn’t be targeting that should’ve been penalties on both sides for being absolute dummies.
Dubz Kid he didn’t lower his head into it there’s a difference between trying to run threw or lowering it he tried but there defensive player lowered his too

9:15 Let's be serious for a moment. This dude almost laid on the ground to tackle that Tennessee return man and STILL got ejected. #TargetingCallFail #ScrapThatRule
That catch that those refs called the targeting and the incomplete pass, that pass was good. His entire body hit the ground, he was holding on to the ball with his body. It’s not like it bounced off the ground and into his lap.

If they call targeting on defensive players they need to call it on offensive players who lower their head to try to get helmet to helmet contact
offensive lowering of the helmet is allowed because its basically bracing for impact. It's controversial though
They did. They called it against the guy who caught the punt and lowered his head and targeted the Clemson guy

What is it with the increase in helmet to helmet targeting, when they've supposed to be 'cleaning' up the game.
The league has to look at these targeting calls from the defensive player and the offensive player point of view. There should be some calls of targeting against the offensive player.

It's called football of course your supposed to hit them. To many rules that keep defense's from doing there job.
It is very simple: don't attempt to hit them in the head. Head injuries (like CTE) and neck injuries are very dangerous and these are children.
