    I just did this job on my 2005 Altima 2.5. One comment I wanted to make is to make sure you use "deep" 14mm sockets on the 5 manifold bolts. Regular sockets will bottom out and I accidentally stripped the first nut. It stripped so easily it was impossible to get off without cutting it off. That made the job an hour longer than it need to be :(

    I want to thank you guys for posting this video. It helped and guided me to install the exhaust manifold and catalytic converter on my daughters 2003 Nissan Altima. Without this video i think it would of taken me a longer time. I did it by myself in 3 and 1/2 hours, and ive never done this before. Thanks guys.

    This was much helping and very similar for the Nissan x-trail T30. The only difference is that you have to remove the wheel and a shield to get to the tensioner. Thanks for the video!😊👍🏻 saved a lot of money. Replaced the fan belt while I was at it. No more squeaky sounds 🎶 5,5 hour job with some troublesome bolts.

    Can't thank you enough for your awesome and helpful videos. You've saved me so much frustration and probably thousands of dollars as well.
    By the way, the 06 (and maybe 05) Altimas have only one O2 sensor connected to the exhaust manifold. The second one is on the other cat located underneath the car. The FSM diagram seems to have the wrong diagram for the '06 as well so it's extra confusing. Also there's no donut gasket on the OEM manifold flange nor on the replacement manifold.
    I think the torch should be the absolute last resort, especially since most of us don't have lifts and are using jackstands. An open flame in a confined space near the fuel tank just sounds like a bad idea for us amateurs.
    Irwin makes an excellent bolt extractor socket which basically is hammered/chiseled onto the bolt head giving the needed grip on rusty rounded bolts. It can be connected to a ratchet, but I had an air impact wrench and boy, was it a lifesaver. The impact wrench with the bolt extractor will either break the nut or the bolt. Make sure to get the deep well sockets. They're 31 for a set on Amazon. I think Harbor Freight makes a similar version

    Catalytic converter replacement at Nissan dealership is $1,200. At a local mechanic it's $600. Watching the video I understand why... what a PITA to have to remove the alternator. I'm guessing breaking loose the connector bolts from the exhaust is the toughest part. Do you have a part number for the O2 sensor for a 2006 Altima S?

  • @petertyrrell6690
    @petertyrrell6690 7 лет назад +3

    The lower O2 sensor can be salvaged, if it is tight, by leaving it attached to the catalytic converter when the cat is removed. The O2 sensor can then be removed by holding the catalytic converter's manifold in a bench vise and removing the O2 sensor with an O2 socket that has a steel ring around it to stop it spreading.

    • @rasmadrak
      @rasmadrak 3 года назад

      That is *if* it's working. If the cat is bad, it's highly possible the O2 sensor has been destroyed as well.

    I made up a steel ring to slide fit over the outside diameter of my O2 wrench. The ring stops the O2 socket spreading open if I have to really torque on the sensor to remove it. This works very well. I installed some scrub screws in the ring to hold it in position while in use.

    Typically, the manifold/ cat converter on the engine head goes bad much before the the cat downstream since it is the first one the gases get to. Also, good job disconnecting that battery before screwing with O2 sensors. Could short the ecm that way.

    Hello. Thanks for your videos. I have the same car. Everytime I look something for my car your videos show up. I have the check engine light on. The mechanic checked the error code and told me that the code is about the upper catalytic converter or the oxygen sensor on it. However the car has no problem when running. I guess when you have a faulthy sensor you should have other problems or symptoms. The car has 103.000 miles. Do you think the problem is the catalytic converter or the oxygen sensor? Thx

    @5:48 How come you guys put the alternator and engine cover back on? ;-P hehe
    Good video, looks like it'll be very similar to my 2003 Sentra SE-R Spec-V. My O2 sensor corroded around the edges and fell out, leaving a thumb-sized hole in the manifold. I've got it in there with some QuikSteel and JB Weld, but it's my 3rd attempt, the first 2 it fell back out. So here I am looking to replace the entire thing soon. Luckily I don't have to worry about the O2 sensor since I know it's shot anyway, heh. I'll check out your site while I go shopping for manifolds.

Unfortunately, due to state emissions regulations, we cannot ship this item to the state of California as it is not C.A.R.B ( California Air Research Board) approved for use in this state. This also holds true for New York, as well. We apologize for the inconvenience. I've used your alternator and the video to replace the alternator before and it was perfect. On this one, are there two catalytic converters? You have this one and a video and for my 2004 Altima 2.5, you also have an exhaust pipe with Cat. Are there two and do I need to replace both? Asking because a shop said I need to replace the cat and the cost of the Cat was $500 from them. They didn't mention anything about the "Exhaust pipe with Cat" shown in your catalog and video here: www.1aauto.com/2002-06-nissan-altima-exhaust-pipe-with-catalytic-converter/i/1accd00255?f=392025&y=2004&video=PRODUCT_INSTALLATION_VIDEO

    I have a question on the Cadillac sts 05. Saying catalytic converter code for emission do I have to change the whole system or can I just do the converter?

    • @1AAuto
      @1AAuto  10 лет назад

      Thanks for watching. That is a question you will need to ask you mechanic. Unfortunately exhaust systems are out in the open and tend to rot at the flange for the pipes. If the flange is rotted, when you install the new pipe it wont seal. If the flanges are OK then you can simply do the Convertor. So it really depends on the individual vehicle. Hope this helped!
