The FASTEST British Hillclimb Championship' Formula Cars racing at FIA Masters 2018!

- During the 2018 FIA Hillclimb Masters race in Gubbio, Italy, my friends Italiansupercarvideo, MattyB727, NM2255 and I recorded these incredibly fast Formula cars/open-wheelers you usually see in the British Hillclimb Championship. Usually raced in very short courses, it was a real pleasure to see these crazy machines in action on a longer hillclimb and see how fast they are in person. Due to noise regulations in the British championship, these open-wheelers have to use exhaust mufflers but it was nice to hear more the mechanical sounds of the various engines featured in these Formulas (such as Judd V8, Radical Performance V8 or even the Cosworth KF V6 used in the Opel Calibra DTM!).
List of the cars in the video:
51) Gould GR61X (3.5-liter Nicholson-McLaren NME V8)
52) OMS 28 (3.2-liter Radical Performance RPE V8)
53) Gould GR59M (3.3-liter stroker Cosworth XD N/A V8)
54) Force WH ZTEC (2.0-liter AER 4-cylinder Turbo)
55) Gould GR55 (4.0-liter Judd V8)
56) DJ Firestorm (2.5 TME KF V6, Cosworth KF derived)
59) Dallara F399 (2.0 Opel-Spiess 4-cylinder)
60) Gould GR59 (1.3-liter Suzuki Turbo)
64) Gould GR55B (3.5-liter NME V8)

THANKS FOR WATCHING AND SUBSCRIBE!!!
There’s something about watching cars with high downforce in the bendy stuff, unreal.
nyoooooooooooom
They need the HALO with all those nice barriers around at head level
They do what they want
Crazy how fast they're going considering the weight of their balls...
Battling between slowing down enough to take certain corners and going fast enough for the downforce to have full affect seems like a wild ride. LOL
None are actually Formula cars but built to the very open British Hillclimb regulations except Darren Warwick’s Dallara. Very short hills where you need to aim for perfection. The shortest being Barbon Manor at 814 metres with a hill record of 20.08 seconds which is an average speed of 92mph from a standing start. Ultra light weight and big aero is the key and the starts will be well in excess of 1g lateral in the all-important scoring Top 12 Runoff.
Davvero impressionante quanto viaggiano 😲
@Italiansupercarvideo
Seriously just flat out ripping through the truth aka turns. 👍
@@NODAK9 👍
Molto fantastico 👀👽
@Jraybay
Absolutely my friend, tons of fantastic content. 👍
I just finished watching a Koenigsegg Agera RS crack 280 mph on a Nevada Hy-way
then ended up here!
Sorry to inform you but GWR Predator set fastest time ever at the Goodwood “circus”. Ask Rob Turnball, he was a witness to the fact. They just couldn’t eat it. And the time was mysteriously “disappeared” as it didn’t fit with the poncy preconceptions of the “interests”. In the real Big World you could call it a “rigged game”, pathetic. Graham Wight was never, to my knowledge, invited back. Any “real” Hillclimb fan knows full well that Goodwood is just a circus created, largely, for commercial gain, nothing else.
Apologies if I’m mistaken it may have been the Gould that Graham was driving at the time. But I rest my case, it was the same outcome.
yes, it was the Gould GR51 and only V6 opel powered so 17 years on goodness knows how much quicker our hillclimb boys would be in more powerful machinery!!
The guy with the Moore Stephens advertisement on the rear wing.... Balls :) #59
Hahaa, they still seem to work ok.
they banned them at the Goodwood Festival - just too fast. The UK motorsport industry has always produced the fastest cars, usually out of sheds. Shelsley Walsh is their proving ground.
Last time i remembered the elecrronic cars surpassed a cossy engine f1 body...
These roads have side guards and etc. Goodwood usually hosted at places with... hay or nothing for protection. Quite narrow roads for both of them though.
@@RosalieValentineCHENG But they haven't surpassed a open wheel hill climb car. Second fastest all time run at GoodWood is a GWR Predator.
@ you know the current record holder is literally an Open Wheel car right? And the guy who is operating the closed Wheel car which is the Volkswagen, is only literally a second behind if I remember correctly...
Yes but within the 2018 year I remembered that the IDR actually you know what the overall class of the elite Speed because I remember that there's was one entry this year that is open wheel
I'm guessing there are requlations to this class, but are you allowed to run whatever engine you seem fit?
Zootopia96 yes you are.
Anything you like from a supercharged Busa in a car weighing 350 Kg up to that Gould with a Cosworth XD delivering over 700 BHP from 3.3 litres. There’s another of those with a 4 litre Judd KF on the way with the block and heads CNC from a solid billet. I reckon 730BHP from that beast
Eddie Walder is there any good source on the internet for the British Hillclimb scene? Very interesting cars
@@MartlRS hillclimb tv do great coverage
The forgotten part of British motorsport imo. I don't even know where the nearest hill climb is... I live near Silverstone if anyone has any suggestions.
You have Prescott Hillclimb in Gloucestershire which is near Cheltenham, then theres Gurston Down in Wiltshire but the one for the pure speed, atmosphere and history of the place is at Shelsley Walsh near Worcester, once youve seen a Top 12 Runoff there you will catch the bug for more trust me, its eye popping how close you can stand trackside and then they come rushing past at 130, 140 mph, absolute adrenaline buzz!
and you summed it up perfectly...it is the forgotten part of British Motorsport....but thats a good thing in some ways..the fact that it feels so intimate, friendly and old skool yet the top end machinery is such an amazing array of stuff it seems out of this world and place but its not. :)
It doesnt looks that fast on Camera...
But once you drive it yourself
*Oh boi...*
Normaly it doesn´t look fast but is fast, this look fast but is increadibly fast...
I was lucky enough to see a DJ Firestorm driven by Wallace Menzies in 2013 at my local (very) short track of Kames. It was such an awesome sight, even with such a constrained circuit. Sadly he went on to destroy it at Shelsey Walsh the following year. It must have truly been fantastic to see these on this more open layout, as you say. Another great video, thanks! :)
edit: I think that might actually be Wallace Menzies driving the #53 Gould, in this video.
Yes, correct. That's actually Wallace Menzies ;) so much for your comment!
where are all the big American "no replacement for displacement" torquey V8 cars? shouldn't they dominate in this... oh wait, this requires handling..
You should come and film at craigantlet (Northern Ireland)
0:09 That hole must broke/crush driver spine,Auch!
Why those - things - :) are so quiet and i want see real F1 car on this track.
They are quiet because the UK regulations require them to not be too loud :( I think the car at 0:16 has a Cosworth F1 engine but reduced exhaust sound.
@@MrJordan38 Yep that red Gould has a really special engine, derived from the turbocharged Cosworth XD 2.65-liter unit used in Champcar/Indycar. That's now a 3.3 N/A V8 ;)
Damniti hate noise regulations :( imagine the sound if there were no regulations
Very Excellent!! Full commitment in the formula cars! : D They sound so amazing tipping through the course : D
Hi Bozzy. The way these cars grip is insane!😲 It's really hard to imagine burning up the roads the way these guys do. Holding it wide open through certain portions of the hill climb takes tremendous amounts of self-confidence and trust in your equipment. Absolutely incredible performance and even though they are muffled, they still sound awesome.🎶🎧 Brilliant job by you and your friends, sir. I can imagine it being quite a challenge just keeping these rockets in the frame.😉 See you on the next one, dude. Ciao!
lightweight & downforce FTW
Thanks for the comment my big friend! Agreed with everything you said. I was aware of their speed thanks to those on board videos you can find by searching for "fastest hillclimb" etc but what blew my mind was when I searched for their engines! I wasn't expecting to find something like a Champcar derived V8 or, even better, a Cosworth KF V6 used in the Opel Calibra DTM :O
Such huge nutz those guys have. These are basically Go-Karts on steroids imo. 😱
This is so sick
We have a very old and famous hill climb race where I live in Reading Pa known as the Duryea Hill Climb SCCA sanctioned race the the top of Mt Penn to the fire tower and past the pagoda it's a very exciting race lots of twists and turns on the course.
It's crazy to me how grippy the tires are😮
@19Bozzy92
Fricken awesome! Thank you
You're welcome! Thanks for your comment
Some great footage of us Brits you have, thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much Darren! It has been an immense pleasure watching you guys driving flat out here in Italy
Good Life,good cars!
Thanks very much for sharing this coverage, super impressed with this new generation of open wheels car. I was more familiar with the older generation of cars from the late 1990s, which great but these new ones are really stellar 👌🏻
Thanks again 🙏🏼🍺
Thank you so much for watching! :)
E neanche i piloti. ..
super fast!!😍
Nice !!!
Loooooveeee it ♥️ thanks Bozzy 👍 👍
How fast they are compare to ossela or other F3000?
Is this car f4 or different formula car?
Beautiful. But I didn't like how some British fans were claiming that Scott Moran is the fastest in Europe. I think it was Will Hall who has won in this class, but it was obvious even before this event that Merli was the fastest in whole Europe.
Thanks for watching
@@19Bozzy92 Thanks for great content!
I WANT ONE NOW!!!!
So many beautiful and distinctive formula cars, moved really at the limit. You captured them so nicely. But I hate this fucking exhaust mufflers.
WOW! insane. I actually love that they are not brutally-stupid loud. And I definetely want to see one of those lap the Nordschleife! That would be spectacular.
Amazing.
Che bombe che tirano 😍
Una di queste in mano a Faggioli o Merli e fioccherebbero record ovunque!
I’m used to watching these at Prescott,Gurston Down or Shelsley Walsh so your lucky to see them on more open courses
The noise 💦
Whoever shot these clips did a good job 👍🏻 great camera work
For sheer effort the Dallara 2l is on it and nailing every apex. Good man
Why you speed it up.... I can't watch it now thanks
The black one sounds like a modern F1 car.
Shame that there's no highlights of this on telly or anything
What's the top speed of these cars?
How many Horsepower ??? :O
Absolutely 100!
Macchesegrullopeddavvero
No traction control, isn't it?
um verdadeiro show de barulho ✌️
The black #56 white helmet, sounds awesome! Kind of like a current Indy car. I love it!
That one should feature a Cosworth KF-derived engine built by Trevor Morris Engines. It is basically the same 2.5-litre naturally aspirated V6 engine used in the 1996 Opel Calibra ITC/DTM car
@@19Bozzy92 That's cool, thank you Bozzy! That engine is pretty epic.
Wah keren
Are these cars rr or 4wd I seriously cant tell?
RWD
