Correction - As a few of you have pointed out, Lidl-Trek's Madone SLR 9 AXS Gen 8 can be bought for £12,500 / $13,500. In the pricing details we were given, the team model was listed as a Project One bike at the $17,000 we quoted. Sorry for this error. Liam
Same goes actually for rb Bora habsgrohe. You can get it the tarmac sl8 for less. But with the rbbh paint job and some special SRAM paints, you pay more. Technically it’s a sl8 with red
Oh I see, you have listed them twice. Smart
If you're purchasing a $10,000 bike online from the other side of the world, it would be the same price (if not cheaper) as travelling to the manufacturer, visiting their country for a week, get the right bike fit and change the components, instead of paying a $2000 import tax. You're welcome ☺
I never paid an import tax on a bike. Living in the EU.
great idea! very realistic! and as you land at the home country you can pretty much ride and go!!!
The look for sure
Best tip!! I've saved at least 15.000 euros in the last 10 years, building my own bikes with mostly discounted, but top tier frames and components...
Comparing prices with the results of aero and rigidity tests from Tour magazin, the bike with the best quality-price ratio is by far CUBE Litening (aero or Air)
MSRP pricing is what is suggested. These days it seems the bike industry seems on sale. Often 1k plus off. Still 12k for a bike is as much as a cheap car or motorcycle. The sweet spot for retail I believe is around 2.5-3k. The committed enthusiast may pay about 3-5k. Still it's fun to see all these high end bike get the put to the test 2with the world best cyclist. Thanks guys!
Has to be Colnago for me, although I opted for the c68 over the V4RS as used in the TDF….
Just bought an Ostro VAM…the Enve Melee and Giant Propel were also on my shortlist. The new Van Rysel aerobike would definitely have made the list too - that grey/marble colourway is fantastic
The Trek Madone is actually showing here in the US as ONLY.... USD13,500.... I think the extra 4k would be for a custom Mads Petersen style paint job above a beyond regular team bike replica cost.
😂 The replica version will only cost you about 1200 euros (frameset and handlebar), shipping cost included!
Jayco's TCR is the one I'd get.
This is some insane prices!
Giant TCR!!
The Trek price is incorrect. The $17K price is for the blinged out Chrome. The team edition is "only" $13.5K.
I know. pls see the pinned comment. Liam
Thanks for the video! I would say the Trek Madone SLR9 DuraAce. Test rode one, love the geometry fit!
But is the slr8 version still worth buying? I can buy my friends slr8 pretty cheap as he wants to get the newer version....
I've just bought the merida team, from a tcr sl both dur ace top spec and the merida is a rocket.
Double the price of tour bikes is ridiculous for tiny gains if any at all imo.
Agree! I have both Reacto and Scultura and they’re still the best.
I still have the 2018 Reacto and it's an absolute weapon.
Praying the new gen frame is coming for 2025.
Redbull frame with Di2
cmon these prices arent that high - F1 mirror costs more than the whole bike budget for le tour...
What did Trek do to upset you? The team paint job Madone is £12,500 on their website
I suspect they're looking at the Gen 7 prices by mistake.
They were likely looking at the full custom project one with all of the most expensive possible components and paint.
It would be Cervelo S-5. I think it's a good all rounder. Problem is, I don't have the money. 😊
The most ridiculous fact is, that 99.9% of the frames have the same technology, with the same components, etc. Nothing really new of breakthrough.
So what we've concluded is the US manufacturer bikes are extortionate. There are some outliers but overall, US bikes are stupidly bikes. It's a shame as the Cannondale SSE Lab71 is stunning. Not that paint scheme mind, but most definitely on my fantasy list to replace my 2022 HiMod.
80 per cent of the frames nowadays are very similiar in geometry, the paint and the wheels makes all the diference.
& are made in one of half-a-dozen Chinese/Taiwanese factories.
@@zygmuntthecacaokakistocrat6589yes they are.
You know I have a black/dark grey bike atm but I have to say that EF cannondale is quite nice actually. UAE and VM-LAB bikes come in second for me.
whopping 20% VAT to the UK? jeez.. F brexit lol
Sorry i view these bikes as all the same. It is like watching the array of today's SUV and getting excited about either
Trek Madone gen 8 (Project one) Cannondale Supersix Lab71, Look Blade, Scott Foil, Bianche Ottre RC and Dogma F. Yup if I have around $130k USfor those bikes o mentioned. 😁
Little bit of untruth with the Trek Madone. The stock bike they ride is about $13,500. They offer a specific Project One paint job that will jump the price up to 17K
id have Nibalis SL4 in Remco's paint job with Super Record 80th anni groupset.
A Winspace frame and wheel combo, for example, will set you back maybe $4K. Add groupset and build kit, and you're looking at a bike as good as any in the peloton for c. $7-8K. The extra $ for a name brand bike goes to buy the children of the boards of the western bike companies their next polo pony.
Why are Giant bikes so much cheaper in Australia?
Do the bikes affect performance e.g. on sprint stage, is one bike more speedier than the other?
Yep at certains watts some are faites than others
Fasters*
Redbull and enve for me
UnoX isn’t using the VSRu, they’re on a new one called the VA, which at Eurobike they’ve quoted the frameset/bars at $5500 USD. So… Not the bargain pick any more
Which bike (or paint job) is your favourite?
Has to be enve, so class
The correct answer to that question is - and always will be - The Colnago
Trek.
Trek, Look and Cannondale bikes
The Red Bull Tarmac is my favorite.
Giant or cannondale
Jack Luke please do video about your brown rim brake gravel bike.
Jack, stop making burner accounts 🫠
@@bikeradar haha.
Rediculous that they make most top bike frames for use with di2 only!
I'd have to stick with GIANT!!!
BOOO TREK BOOOO TREK BOOOOOOO TREK!
Those stems on the Bianchi's... 🥴
I wish Cervelo would go back to Shimano.
Why so expensive for a paint job? Does it make the bike faster?
Everyone knows looks = speed... 😂
Didn't I see this video on GCN a few days ago??
Yea Manon and Ollie beat us to it. We're checking for a mole in BikeRadar HQ ;)
5:33 Let me just say that this Bianchi is absolutely hideous. Thanks, I hate it. But if money was no object, I'd go with the SuperSix or the Colnago.
Trek Mad1 or Mad One....
I use a skin suit now. More comfortable than bib shorts and has pockets so no less practical. I think this idea will slowly replace bib shorts and jerseys as it just makes more sense. Cyclists are slow to adapt to change, so I expect it will take a while though.
Really? You expect the average amateur cyclist to ride a skinsuit just because pros do? I don't think so....
In Spain you can find a brand new 2024 Orca Aero with 105 Di2 for under 3000€…
Any suggestions, website, dealers? Thank you
cannondale is the sexiest, but I hate them and would never buy it lol
Too rich for my blood
This is totally non-sense! How come bikes with the same components and almost similar frames, can have such a disparity on prices?!?!
Marketing
Trek releasing a dud and then pricing it out it out of the market.
Try telling this to the rich Wannba be pro's at the local sportive. Its never the bike you are on, its the Drugs you use to help you go longer, faster!
1st
tax for fools!.
Any amateur paying that sort of money for a pushbike is a mug!
All overpriced. Road bikes are simple, not a lot to them (unlike e bikes and MTBs), yet cost 5 figures lol
Think of the number of components and amount of materials you'll get in a basic cheap car compared to this shit
Why are the bike channels chasing this idiotic red herring? The cost arrangement that pro teams 'pay' (if any) for the bikes bears no relationship to any retail price that could be charged, per discrete bike, to ordinary schmo customers, for something that is similar. They agree on a 'service charge' per year, made up of a stated and agreed quantity of frames, groupsets, tyres, build kits and all the ancillaries, sourced from one or several manufacturers, or their Tier One distributors. I've been responsible for deals done with ProContinental teams, on behalf of manufacturers, and this sort of speculation is of no use nor accuracy, at all. Worst of all, the journos, if they are at all competent, know this; yet are acting in bad faith towards their reader/viewership, perhaps with the connivance, or blind-eye-turning, from various brands.
I will stick to Specialized especially with the Rval Rapide CLX II wheels love it, love it!
