      definitely not a windows update

    • @thinkingoutloud3757
      @thinkingoutloud3757 3 года назад +5

      @@bradhaines3142 Hardware prices are fine, they're just forced on you in a limited lineup - meaning you end up paying for a punch of hardware you didn't actually need. But, for example, factor in that the 5k 10-bit iMac screen is worth around $1500-$2000.... Then when you consider the rest of the hardware, price-wise, it more or less checks out.

    • @bradhaines3142
      @bradhaines3142 3 года назад +12

      @@thinkingoutloud3757 except it doesnt. look at the RAM and SSD upgrade prices. from 256 to 512 costs 200$, but i can buy a 512gb ssd just as fast for 50-75$ easily. ram, they go from 8 to 16 for 200$, thats maybe 30$, 50 if you go high end. their 1 and 2tb SSD options are worse, seeing as 1tb is easily found around 100-150$, and 2tb is the worst at 600$ when its easily found for 2-300$ even as a pcie drive.
      and the worst part of all of this is you have no option to do it yourself later, because everything is soldered. i know thats not mac exclusive but that doesnt make it ok.
      the hardware itself is admittedly as over priced as other high end competitors, but the upgrades are the real sin for the hardware.

    “Modern flat design” is just a phase in design, it come and goes. Few months ago I was restoring my 2012 Mac Mini so it installed it’s original os. My god it was so beautiful, with so much soul and warmth in those icons. And colors were way more pleasant too, actually much easier on the eye comparing to Korean Acid we have now everywhere. Korean Acid is just local way of expressing this color spectrum that burns your eyes, especially green.

Osx's older 3d design looked so much better & more high end, it its gloss & even the brushed aluminium touches in the older versions like tiger looked incredible. We‘ve seen the same flat icons since iOS 7, nearly unchanged, basically for about 8 yrs. So I think Big Sur icons are a welcoming change and head to a new direction of design. That’s what I love them for. It‘s about about time for a refreshing new design philosophy, time to move on. Hope to see that coming to iPhone as well in the future.

    • @leftatedsa
      @leftatedsa 3 года назад

      Download efficiency perhaps depends on traffic from the Apple site and your internet speed. I experienced the same with Catalina on my laptop. Download was painfully slow. Installation took some time as I was jumping from High Sierra. Faster on my Mojave iMac though being one OS away. Catalina needed a few additional download tweaks readily available and now works really well. iMovie took two updates to catch up and my old Tuxera program needed a kick along on the MBP but not the iMac. Audacity remains slightly compromised LibreOffice remains smooth as expected but all in all if the hardware and drive space can take it then the upgrades work really well. Google, RUclips vids and the Apple community were extremely helpful. Might be prudent to monitor other comments before jumping in as it’s very hard to go back and you need patience learning new tricks and the new look.

No weird dragging and dropping, just easy setup and you check or uncheck if you want certain items to appear in the menu bar. Pretty nifty way to do it. Not sure the dragging features were the primary way Apple intended for us to use them. Certainly work fine, but under system preferences, it is much easier.

    It bothers me what these tech reviewers have been saying about Safari recently, makes me feel like they're just blindly singing the song that Apple sings during its press releases. I've been a macbook pro owner for the past 5 years and Google Chrome is still...
    1. Undeniably faster than Safari
    2. More reliable in the vast majority of situations
    Yes, Chrome might use more RAM, and it might share more user data with advertisers, but that doesn't make it better in either of those areas. Big Sur did improve Safari, but it's still not as fast, or as reliable as Chrome
