I made the same decision a few months ago and it was actually worth it. It was actually the first time I had ever owned a Mac and I love it! Especially with my iPhone and iPad. :) Would recommend.

@@mallorydurrick I would say it’s likely coming sometime next year with the 24in iMac but who knows when that will be. So if you could wait for up to a year I’d say wait. If not, I doubt the 13in will let you down
You guys always forget that an iPad can act as a second screen for the Mac, and this already IS a touch-screen. So may be this is what the controls are somewhat bigger than before. Not for the Mac itself, but for the side-screen.

Last week I made a decision: I am selling all my windows machines, two of three are sold and I had to sell a lot of my stuff, but I am sure I won't regret it: I ordered my first ever Mac, the Macbook Air M1 with 512GB and it is definitely the most I ever spent for a computer. But I am sure I will love it, windows gets on my nerves more and more and especially as a free time photographer and semi professional with audio productions like podcasts, windows and the complete mess they make with their drivers for audio devices I am so glad that I will leave windows behind me...
For those holding off on Big Sur, I am currently on the latest Catalina. I notice it has a couple of the Safari features outlined: tab preview and trackers with the privacy report under the security icon.

I was a PC user since the 1980s. I bought an iMac in 2019, then a MacBook Pro, iPhone, and an Apple watch. I now have the iPhone 12 Pro Max. I will never go back to a PC or Microsoft. FYI the new startup chime is now in standard A440 hz tuning - and is a "F" chord. The old startup chime was also a F chord but was slightly sharp of an A440 tuned F, it sounded about 2 or 3 cents sharp of an A440 "F".

When I saw the horrible gap between lower display bezel and dock, weirdly not-centered icons near date in top right corner and GIANT Safari top bar I’ve reverted to Catalina instantly... I like idea of making UI a bit more modern but I hate how they did it
@@Mon-gx9xe they say that since the m1 is so efficient and the ram is unified(in the chip itself), 8gb is more than enough for casual users. But then again they say that if you upgrade the ram, the gpu will also “get better” so if you want better graphics performance go for the upgrade
@@Mon-gx9xe yup exactly, I mean look at the iPad Air 4, only 4 gb of ram but handles video editing way better than many other laptops with 8 gb. So just imagine the MacBook Air as a more powerful iPad Pro with even more ram (I think that’s appropriate 😅) and you can have infinite tabs open haha
They were added to safari in Catalina after being introduced biting WWDC during the BigSur announcement. It was flagged as a Big Sur feature but released early because privacy is apple’s main concern.
at 5:39 Luke pointed out you when to point out the arrow to get them all appear, i have found a way to get them to appear all the time, you must go to settings - keyboard -i’m the keyboard section it will display ‘Touch bar shows’ Quick actions, you will need to change this to ‘Expanded Control Strip’ and then you have all your function keys 😁👍🏻
I've just upgraded to Big Sur through last night, and it was a bit of a shock when I opened the laptop today. So far so good, I like the new-ish look, I like the new notification thingy. The only thing I have not got used to yet, is the space between rounded corner of maximised window and the top bar. It pokes my eyes!

In Catalina my calendar appointments would be spoken out loud, also the time was announced ie ' its one o'clock' or 'its time to take your medication' all very useful. these have disappeared in Big Sur.
I have numerous performance issues on a 2015 MBP 13". It's been that way through the entire beta for me. Even my 16" still does weird stuff on it. I am definitely rolling back the 2015 into it's TM backup of Catalina. I'll ride it out on the 16". I have a sneaky feeling my new M1 13" coming Nov 24 will run it flawlessly, though.
I have a late 2013 MacBook Pro and it says “an error occurred during the installation”literally like 2 seconds after I click update, guess it’s not going to let me do it.
My 2017 Mac book air was compatible with it but wouldn’t update Bc I had no storage left. So I decided to upgrade to the m1 air and I love it. It is so much better and faster.

Well, there's big issues on Apple's side and users around the world aren't able to download macOS Big Sur. I really hope they resolve the issue because I'm so eager to get my hands on it!

i installed cocktail to remove the startup chime on my macbook air years ago so that i could work quietly at night; if it’s returned now i hope that there will also be an option to turn it off without having to resort to a 3rd party app to do so.

The 2013 iMac has nvidia GPU. For the redundancy of control center, you can actually drag stuff from there to the menu bar, so I guess it’s just for convenience so that you don’t even need to open the control center.
Started out with an IPad Air 3 to monitor the IPads I bought for my kids. Now I have the Air3, an IPhone 12 Pro, and just recently, a 15 in 2015 Macbook Pro Dual Graphics. Upgraded to BIG SUR. My windows laptop became my kids windows laptop. I much prefer the Macbook.
Luke. Changing the keyboard brightness from the Touch Bar is not as difficult as you think. Touch the button and hold for a second. It will open with a slider bar automatically. You don't have to click and then click. The same applies to volume.
I've been using big sur with barrykn's patcher on my mid 2012 mbp 13" for a couple months now and honestly, as long as you have an ssd and 8 or 16gb of ram. I'd say the 2012 gets another year of support. It runs absolutely fine and is as snappy as mojave or catalina.

You can't use the touchscreen when using Sidecar, it only works with Apple Pencil.

You would only be able to install iOS apps if you are using the silicon m1 macs.

Try tap and drag on the brightness and volume Touch Bar items in the System Tray. It’s much quicker than tapping into the function buttons view.

Got my m1 mbp this week and I have no issue using safari. Chrome is a ram hogging browser and as of rn I am digging Safari. No issues whatsoever.

considering moving to Final Cut and leaving Windows 10. hoping a new iMac running the M1 processor will become available this Summer. have a 2009 iMac in a semi-retired state and it's still my all-time favorite machine. just upgraded to Big Sur on my MacBook Air and am in awe.

I downloaded Mac osBig Sur on my late 2013 iMac and it works just as good as it did on Catalina.

The 2013 iMac has nvidia GPU. For the redundancy of control center, you can actually drag stuff from there to the menu bar, so I guess it’s just for convenience so that you don’t even need to open the control center.

Started out with an IPad Air 3 to monitor the IPads I bought for my kids. Now I have the Air3, an IPhone 12 Pro, and just recently, a 15 in 2015 Macbook Pro Dual Graphics. Upgraded to BIG SUR. My windows laptop became my kids windows laptop. I much prefer the Macbook.
Is it stable enough? or should I wait a few weeks?
Control Center is a great addition. I have no trouble with it at all. Great job with the new update.
Luke. Changing the keyboard brightness from the Touch Bar is not as difficult as you think. Touch the button and hold for a second. It will open with a slider bar automatically. You don't have to click and then click. The same applies to volume.
I got Big Sur in my 2010 Mac Pro. Loving it for video editing.

I've been using big sur with barrykn's patcher on my mid 2012 mbp 13" for a couple months now and honestly, as long as you have an ssd and 8 or 16gb of ram. I'd say the 2012 gets another year of support. It runs absolutely fine and is as snappy as mojave or catalina.
Have you tried Monterrey with patches yet? Does it work?
Big Sur is incredible! I love it. Its the Mac but more funny and more intuitive. The best feature to me is the control center
