Maple firewood is of abundance in NH here. My wood lot consists of pine and maple mostly. With Oaks and cherry being rarer. I love maple firewood for my outdoor wood broiler. It heats nice and hot but and keeps a nice "slower" burn. I also love cutting it! My echo cs-490 loves maple and it blows through it and the nice white wood chips are sweet as well!
I get more Silver Maple delivered from the tree service and I love it. It cuts and splits really nice and when it is seasoned it burns really good in my fireplace or wood stove. It burns fast, but man I love it. No pops or sparks compared to Hedge. I wish I could get out and cut some wood. Everything is covered in ice. I am hoping by next week the ice is gone so I can start reducing all the logs. Thanks for sharing. Stay warm.

I always enjoy your videos, and I definitely agree it is a beautiful day. We've had a lot of rain here in east Tennessee as well, so anytime it is nice out it is good to get out and cut wood or split wood. Get rid of the cabin fever.

Maybe you packed the ice on down to where it could thaw some and then the debris dislodged itself, anyway I'm glad for you that you didn't lose the dam . You're lucky you can see the leaves and lawn, we got hit with so much freezing rain here, there's about 4-5" of solid ice on my walkway. Roads near the sidewalks aren't much better.
Another good tip for you, I am not a expert either by any stretch of the imagination but I learned from experience on this one. When I use a log pevey or log ox in your case I always cut on the handle side just so your dont pull the log and the pevey/ox over end! I had my pevey lifting up a log on a slight hill and i was on the non handle side and when I bit in with the saw it flipped over on me. Granted I wasnt in the best position but I noticed at the 9:10 mark that the log ox was creeping up a bit and that reminded me of what I did wrong! Anyways great video as always!
Hey Mike I use the same sharpening tool as you and keep a 2x4 or similarly sized limb in the Ranger to rest the bar on when sharpening. It keeps the power head flat and the bar is more stabile so the sharpening it easier and faster.

Was a nice sunny cold day here in Southern Mi. I was cutting White Oak today, had to get my big saw out (Husqvarna 385XP) it sure eats through the wood.
Time to split the firewood: 40 min. 25 sec. I was out in my yard as well this morning, also. I was cutting up some pecan and maple to turn on my lathe and also a piece of hickory. It was cool, but after I started working, it got much warmer. After all of that I turned a piece of hickory that was about 30" long and made a wood splitting maul.
8:02 to split the wood. Honestly the biggest thing I've learned from watching your channel is about sharpening chain saws. I had previously regarded it as something approaching witchcraft, and then Stihl/Pferd came out with that tool and made it so easy a caveman could do it in no time. Not that learning about tractors and wood lot management and wood cutting weren't valuable, but I could have figured that out and handled it.
Nice logs. It’s -32 Celsius here today. Was out splitting some green ash with my splitting axe. Some good winter exercise and the logs explode. Don’t need much effort when they’re frozen solid.
Today it looked like your saw was cutting at an angle instead of straight down through the log. Thank you for showing your sharpening method. I have used that sharpening tool, but I find it does not set my rakers low enough.

Maple varies a lot, from boxelder which is only a little better than poplar to sugar which is slightly better than oak (though it must be processed green as it splats and decays much faster than oak). I think you were cutting some red there so slightly better than black cherry as firewood. I agree on the 4-5 minute guesses for splitting time; the machine can do it easy, just a matter of how fast you can feed it safely!

When you fix the overflow on the pond, just a suggestion. 1) for the 90 degree at the bottom of the stand pipe use fittings and pipe that are at least 2" larger than the inlet, why, less chance of clogging. 2) instead of one 90 degree, use four 22 ½ degree fittings, why, larger radius on the 90 degree re-direction of the flow and less chance of clogging.
Those sharpeners are amazing but You should probably consider some half skip or full skip chains make life so much easier but you got to watch out for the kick this all might be old news to you but figured I'd share also check with bunker branding is an all inclusive designed printer retailer and distributer the owner Matt is a RUclipsr he seems really cool and the company seems awesome

Mike, I'd recommend putting a trash rack on the pond stand pipe to keep out the trash and debris.
Those 2in1 sharpeners are awesome. Sharpens the chain to better than new. I've been using them for a few years now.

That bark was so smooth that that it looks more like beech than maple for much of the log.

We have a lot of sycamore here in Ireland, excellent fire wood, goes rock hard if you don't split it straight away

I like maple firewood but it does leave a heap of ash behind. I think that load could be split in 20 minutes max. And, I'd buy one of those shirts.
