If I’d had my Log Ox about three weeks ago, I wouldn’t be wearing a back brace now. Picked up a large wood round before I thought it through. I got my Log Ox now. Should’ve bought one years ago. Excellent video!!
ahhhh. I've gone all week without watching Outdoors With The Morgans. Been busy and trying to save you folks up for when I can really sit down have a cold beer and enjoy watching you. Don't get me wrong, my days have been a little off without watching you with my first cup of coffee of the day, but I can only watch so much of Gp and Kapper. You are by far my favorite. Love what Y'all do. Please keep it up.
Thank you sir for the information about the LogOX. I had been looking forward to you doing a video about what you thought about it. Looks like a great tool to have around for those of us that have a little "wear" with our backs LOL. Have a great day.
Mike and Melissa, I just want to thank you once again for producing and sharing your videos. There is more WORK involved with doing the videography than most folks will realize! And I know there are those that say "why do I want to watch someone just cutting firewood, or just splitting firewood?". Well, I am the type of person that learns more from WATCHING than I can from reading on how to so something. And I think if most people would watch your videos with the idea of looking BEYOND the main focus that they would learn so much more! I pay attention to your equipment setups, your apparel that you wear, the tools that you use and how you use them. How you manage your land and clear your sites. Maybe I am different than most, but I truly enjoy watching and learning how others do their chores. Not only that, but you and Melissa are a joy to watch interacting with each other. Thanks again for the time, effort, skills, and teaching and sharing! Love you guys!!!!! BTW, I purchased the LogOx a couple of months ago and really like the tool. I like the fact that you use the "spring clip hitch pins" versus the clevis and pins that came with my tool for holding the "timber jack" onto the main bar. I will now switch mine over. One less thing to lose in the leaves!
I have the Stihl version of the Logox. I think I would have done the log ox. Just got my MS 500I , on order for a couple of months. AWesome saw! I think I need the sharpener next.
You are a good teacher Mike. Presented your concepts. Gave examples. Reviewed before moving on. Taught how to. And reviewed the broader idea. Great! Ever thought about education as a second career?
Mike, thanks so much for the video on the Log Ox. I ordered one and just received it last week. Used it for the first time this weekend and what a great tool. It certainly lives up to the hype. I also found it to be really well made. Wasn’t expecting it to have the weight it does. Wow Wow Wow
Good morning Mike, this was an excellent video on the proper use of the Log-Ox and Mingo marker together. You included the Pickaroon in there too so it all got coverage. Those two combined make for easy handling marking of the firewood and a great method of getting the wood marked and cut in generally one roll up on the stand. Definitely tools worth having to help with the firewood gathering. I liked your explanation of how you started out again for those who think you woke up one morning and all the equipment you are using just appeared at your house. You worked your butox off to get the endorsements and where you are in standing with RK and other equipment labels. Always being truthful pays! Thanks for sharing.
Mike, You are one of the guys on RUclips the who actually know what they are doing, You only post the right way of doing things not a bunch of sketchy stuff for entertainment that some people might take as the right way and end up getting hurt. 👌
Cutting up firewood is probably more enjoyable in winter. We just finished cutting down and cutting up a 25m tall eucalyptus blue gum tree into firewood inbetween the rain and thunderstorms. The weather was hot, humid and I was sweaty.
Got to get me one of them! Great presentation too... Been doing it the hard way going on 45 years now. Ain't getting any younger! Thanks, Bill on the Hill... :~)
Good afternoon Mike. Good tidbits of information. Whenever I watch your videos, I'm always looking over your shoulder to admire your surroundings. Thanks 😊
Mike I enjoy watching your videos every day. Like the demonstration on the logox. You by far have the best demonstration videos on explaining the good points and also the negatives on tools, keep up the good work! 👍
I've been watching you Spence your 199 episode and I think you cover a lot of good points ok keep up the good work don't try any harder you speak the truth from my vantage point of watching ok
Mike I've wanted one ever since the first time saw you using it. I asked for one for christmas but it didnt show up, I did get some nice cutting chaps like yours, my wife had seen you wearing them and decided i needed some too. I guess safety over making the job a little easier was her thought, going to pick up a logox as soon as the 3ft of snow in the woods melts and i can start cutting again. thanks for another great video keep em coming
I've copied and pasted part of my comments to another RUclips post about the LogOx. His video was more like a sponsored endorsement than it was a critical review. I was glad to see you do some actual field demonstration of the product in describing its functions. Still, I think there are some trade-offs. To wit: That said, the LogOx is a well built product. I purchased one late last fall and have used it during tree felling, twitching, yard bucking, and hauling phases of getting my next year's firewood supply. While well built, a tool that tries to be a "one-fits-all" ends up more often to be functionally mediocre in some regards. For many years, I've used a pulp hook; popular from the days of processing 4 foot pulp. It is light and easy / quick to deploy if the point is maintained. That said, you do have to bend over slightly more than with the LogOx. Depending on the size (length and diameter) that you're trying to handle, each may have its convenience factor. The LogOx in it's simplest form is larger and to me slightly unwieldy. To be honest, due to our extended winter conditions here, I haven't been able to use it to aid loading wood on the wood splitter. That's where it might shine; again, piece size depending. I used the cant hook function with the t-bar to wrestle with logs this winter; sometimes when packed or frozen in with snow. While good in concept, the attempt to keep the LogOx to be a compact piece of hardware resulted in a short handle extension. The problem is that the short handle lowers the mechanical advantage, and I had a difficult time in wrestling with some medium diameter logs trying to loosen and turn them out of a pile. If I had had a full sized cant hook or peavey with me, the chore would have been much easier. The pickaroon seems to be a decent additional option with a well-designed head. To me another issue is one of having to change out the modules whenever you need to do multi-functions in a short time span. One thing that prevented me from purchasing the pickaroon head was the level of additional cost to a fairly pricey tool.
Good job Mike it’s 8 pm and we’re getting the wind I’m thinking of how many trees will come down there! You don’t need no stinking gym when you got firewood lol just kidding Melissa!
Mike, A tip to add to your saws longevity. After making decent sized cuts before shutting the saw off let it idle for about a minute. It reduces the thermal stresses and makes sure the piston and cylinder get to cool down and the moving parts lubricated. I have the Logrite Extreme Duty Cant Hook with a log lift. It will handle some of the 36" rounds tree companies deliver for our firewood mission. I'm 6'7" and 250 and haven't bent it yet! Keep up the good work and putting out great videos.
You forgot the Ranger probably your best back leg saver (snow pushing ,in out on the trails and of course hauling wood and those other needed tools besides giving the oldest dog a ride and I don,t mean you Mike LOL)
I keep a scrap 2x6 in my LogOx bag to use as a base since our ground is saturated and the timber jack sinks in 3-6 inches with the weight of the tree on it.
Just bought my Log Ox. The timber Jack now has a base plate instead of just a round bar. It should help some but I do like your idea of the 2x6 for extra lift.
As always Mike a great video! I wish I had a “log ox” in the 60’s for my firewood chopping days. Even though it was. Hard work in the Scottish weather, I STILL enjoyed it. When you started the channel you were mainly cutting up windfalls and trees that had recently died. Now that you are cutting a lot more, how are you deciding which trees to cut?
I know you know this, but sometimes its nice to hear anyway. Good tree felling. It was funny, a commercial came up right in the middle of the tree falling over. So it stayed in mid air for a minute. Like the Twilight Zone. You didn't see it, but it did.
@@mjmtreeservicemaintenance2940 ok thanks, I'm looking for a tree service around here, I have about 8 big dead pines down at the brick house. Power lines around them. I cut a lot of trees but dont like the power lines lol
Hey Mike if it's the power line to the house you could always see if the power provider will drop the line for you one morning and come back in the afternoon an hook it back up . It's free around here and it's not like you dont no how to cut the trees down. Just a option
@@OutdoorsWithTheMorgans If I was closer I'd be happy to help. Unfortunately I don't know anyone to recommend in your area. Just make sure whoever's doing it has training for removing around lines and the proper equipment. I'm sure you know all that but working around power lines is a different animal all together.
I definitely need to check out the LogOX. My local farm & ranch supply store has a less expensive version (only $40), but it doesn't look nearly as robust.
I would say go for it. The LogOx in my opinion is very heavy and over engineered. It does not need to be that gauge steel to just roll a couple of hundred pounds of a log over. I have found that swinging it into position to roll the log is itself hard on my back.
Thanks for the log ox review. Another back saving tip, let the engine of your saw bump up against the log when cutting. Holding it back just adds stress to your back muscles.
Mike I just thought of a way you could get that oak out with the rk 37 or 55. You could lift one end of the log about 4 inches off the ground and place about a 3 inch log under it and just keep using them as rollers to roll it to the top of the hill
I used the LogOx last fall. Works great, saved my back from some pain. I’m not thrilled with the holster, I think they could have engineered it better.
Coolness! Mike, I’m beginning to think you’re getting serious about this firewood hobby of yours! Seriously, thanks for the excellent tips and Log Ox demo. Very versatile tool.
I thought of another way for you to get the big log out. Big tractor lift up the end of the log and place a round log underneath. Set log down and roll it out like an Egyptian.

I have been watching since you started the channel keep up the great work. Im a few hours to your west in toward Cincinnati. Its funny how we are always in the same weather pattern so I can relate to your frustration on getting out and working on our land.
Wind is really bad, its all coming your way. Im at work and fully expect to come home to down trees with the ground being so saturated. We have 60 acres and its very hilly terrain. Makes it hard to access with the tractor. I run a Kubota tractor 3301 and Ranger 800 on our property. Im wanting to harvest alot more wood this year since I have so many down trees. I was curious on what your opinion is on Sycamore for burning purposes?? We have alot of sycamore trees down here and I notice most people dont mess with it. thanks

Would you recommend using the Mingo marker to mark the log after rolling your log onto the Log Ox/foot? Otherwise if you mark the log first the markings are on the underside of the log? What are your thoughts.
Do you season your wood after you split or before you spit ? I’ve watched your videos ( most of them ) and never knew the name of the paint marker ! Now I do and that TimberJack is the cats meow as far as I’m concerned! Let me guess what your favorite colors are -- > Red and Orange ! Am I correct? Lol nice video!
Your a brave man leaving the paint can in the Mingo. Seems like it's always firing at a bad time mostly on your clothing, we call it Mingo wear. I have reverted to always pulling the can for travel.
I hate to say it but you sir makes me jealous...lol especially when it came to cutting the wood on a somewhat of a Jackstand and some other things..lol which I bet that does makes it a lot easier, but am just curious how can you be able to use the picker or whatever you call it, inerways for picking up much more big pieces if you can't get the tractor to it where the big tree might be at.? But inerways good video.
