I've watched this a dozen times now in the past several weeks. Each viewing increases my drive to fly across the pond it give it a go. I'll take the flat course any day of the week. Thanks for posting all of your incredible videos.
@@FilmMyRun Oh, I've watched most of your videos several times now. It doesn't matter to me whether you finish; finishing is overrated. What matters to me is learning about the course, seeing you experience the day and night, and simply being entertained. You nail it every time. Thanks for doing such a great job and posting your videos.
I’m conscious that you uploaded this a few years back. We had to DNF at exactly the same point this year - other half had torn her glute in multiple places (so the MRI has since shown) and physically was unable of even walking at that point. No mean feat getting this far at all 💪🏼 We’ll be back next year to get it done.
A DNF comes everyone's way eventually. I had a DNF on last years North Downs Way 100 after bailing at Detling and so I know only to well how much it sucks to sit in that white van. After the NDW I went on to do the Spine Challenger a few months later and was a bit concerned how would I get on. Half way though the race over 50% had dropped out. I was absolutely determined for it not to happen to me, I pictured myself sitting at the end feeling down while others came in with jubilant grin from finishing, and that drove me on and I got to the end. The only way I would have not finished that race is if they forced me off, whereas my mindset on the NDW 100 was like 'nope, I am done, this is not happening'.
Oh this brings back so many memories. Wish I would have met you. This was my second hundred of the year, and I loved it. I really hope I get to come back someday.
We all know Richard is fast. If he was truly a good mate, he’d carry your nutrition for you. Talk about the mental battle he’d have. 😂 I think what you did was amazing. Just being able to explore new grounds is rewarding enough.
I occasionally watch a pro do an ultra here on RUclips -- they, of course, gloss the suffering and complaints. There's a special place in my fandom for this channel because you tell it like it is. But I do enjoy the scenery!
Great film.. not to sound horrible, but it’s kind of good to see that even you a hardened very good runner gets bad runs.. I’ve seen the ones you’re in pain, and now where you’ve DNF’d .. I’ve only covered marathon distance so far, and my last official one in Bournemouth, I was recovering from an issue on the last few weeks of training, and annoyingly suffered from painful knees, IT band pain, from 14 miles.. and was almost 5 hours.. 3/4 of a hour slower than I had hoped in that... as I’ve been managing to shave 15 min off each year, it should have been my fastest... but alas no.. and to make it annoying worse... I thought I’ll get it back next year.. but they’ve ended up not doing the marathon distance anymore.. so ended my 5th year in a row, as a bad one.. was gutted.. As I say.. Great film as always.
I love this! So good to see the pain and misery of ultra-distance as well as the positive side. It was interesting to see your deterioration over time and distance. Very brave of you to try a flat 100, not something I am ready for yet, I've only ever done hilly races so far. Thanks for sharing with us.
Beautiful film as usual. I love the Thames path. It was my PB on 100K. Chosen DNFs are always the worse, because of the "what if". I DNFed after 40K of the CCC 2019, with 14 min spared on the cut-off. And I still have this ball in my stomach. What if I had gone forward. Would I have bounced back? But there is a point where we have to choose many future races over finishing a specific one. Keep on making us dream.
Failed in 2017, but finished it 2018 and 2019. I love this race so much and can't wait until September. So many familiar faces in this video including mine. Glad I've lost some belly on me now though :) The views and scenery do it for me and like you say its tough as its flat. Oh and i didn't know it was the Brunel bridge. Shame on me. Top video Stephen.
Now you have a nice sub 3 under your belt, string a few of those together and the course record could be on this year! After watching this, i note that your timings were similar to my pace plan through to Reading. Hope I'm not being too ambitious. May see you at the start!
Brilliant video Stephen. Thank you for showing your highs as well as lows. Oh and I keep forgetting to say how do you run in the dark? I don’t think that’s something I could do.
People can do whatever they want to do. But if your legs are painful, you can barely walk, you have a headache, you feel like crap (like this guy did) then that’s your body’s way of telling you to stop. You’re damaging your body, basically. I love running, but this seems more like pain endurance than running. But it was an excellent video.
Here is a mad idea Ted, when setting out call it a 50 miler, and then 60 etc. Maybe a person might not be as dissapointed if they don't make the 100. Maybe that is stupid. I rember years ago I entered the London marathon and because of trying to train in the winter, getting a bit injured and mostly just lazy I was in no shape to do it without a suffer fest. As I was coming from ireland I had hotel and flights booked and the whole package was expensive. So what I done was I made a map of where the nearest tube stations were so as I had an escape route when I needed it. Now on the face of it a you would think that this was being negative and that I would hop on the train at the first sign of pressure but the exact opposite was the case. I was totally relaxed and finished the full marathon and had a great time.

@@Chriswiththeruns would it be more inspiring to watch the one we finished?!!! Haha. ruclips.net/video/GmH6tYCGGto/видео.html

Good effort!👍🍷
Thanks as always Emlyn!

That is what I love on this channel! Thanks for taking me along.
Excellent as usual
Omg really Stephen u're amazing person. I guess ur wife and kids just admire u and thing "what a great partner/dad he is". Cool u're here on YT
My only DNF was also in a flat course. 108 miles into KACR and literally no regrets!! Lesson learnt for me stick to hills lol.
You would not DNF if you DNB (did not begin). Great job, impressive.
Hopefully racing this in September

Another fantastic honest film, thank you. You know things are not going well when you take the pack off...l know that feeling!

Thank you Susan. It was the most excruciating end to a race I've ever had!!
Well done to you both. I'm sure you'll be back Stephen. Keep em coming 👍
Hey Scott. This was a couple of years ago now. Managed to get it done twice since then!
Brilliant video again. Thanks for doing it.
Excellent video. It was my first ever hundred miler. 2019 was great year for me - earned Grand Slam 100.
I came to the channel from hearing you on the trail and error podcast. What an honest account of a tough race. You have a new subscriber.

great memories! I want to run outside again.... soon 😊
Great film! Fired up to get racing again in the autumn hopefully!

Another great video Stephen! I'll have to up my game!
Actually I think it's now my favourite! And that's saying something!
Head up Stephen! Great job and lovely video.
Great video. Seems like a scenic route.
Well done, most important is to do 100% and enjoy
I swept part of the course to the aid station you dropped at. It was bitter that night.

Love how derek road humoured you so much hahaha
Wow, credit to you for sharing despite the dnf.
Lovely film
Perfect music
Great video. I was screaming at you to keep going.
Couldn't believe how fast you were running until i realised i was watching video at 1.5 speed 😂
Brilliant video Stephen. Thank you for showing your highs as well as lows. Oh and I keep forgetting to say how do you run in the dark? I don’t think that’s something I could do.
It does take a little time to adjust to night running. But once you’ve done it a few times, it’s fine.
Great vid. What's the song at the end? Didn't see it in the description. Cheers.
Thank you! Very well made. What kind of camera are you filming with ?
looks like some 360 cam?
why do these 100 milers, a challenge is one thing but torture is another.
if I was on that bus I would not be dejected but delighted.
