@Chara : I would honestly say that its badly written unless Palpatine outright chose the Jedi to go on the mission. In most settings, Jedi tend to abhor killing to a degree that they would tend to make the mistake of NOT taking a shot that will save trillions, simply because actually taking the shot would kill a million.
It very much doesn't help that in the war with the CIS, they were fighting machines most of the time and thus weren't steadily getting used to killing either. The numbers of organic deaths upon a CIS capital ship blowing up would, even if not zero, likely be countable with a few pairs of hands.
Palpatine must have chosen a very... "special" Jedi on purpose, explicitly for this mission, because they were one of the tiny few who would actually be willing to fire on a civilian city for the perceived greater good.
If Palpatine did not make a choice, then it makes no sense considering as proper Jedi are only marginally less than Batman-level weak to this sort of moral dilemma normally (to a degree that is frankly detrimental even outside of bizarre situations like this).

And well when your boss is constantly warning the enemy what is about to happen to them playing puppet master and screwing you over whether you know it or not. It makes being a Jedi in the republic not a viable career choice lol. And with own Jedi Masters apathetic to consider that Chancellor palpatine is up to no good and don't even sense anything wrong. But think of it this way WW2 was total war mass death was all around. Do think all the bomber crews wanted to carpet bomb cities for the fun of it no. Due to weapon tech limitations of the time there was no smart pinpoint missiles or bombs yet you just couldn't bomb a bunker next to houses with out damaging the infrastructure around it to like we can do today or at least reduce the collateral damage. Or The Atomic Bomb crews on Japan. Yes it is easy to point fingers and blame people for actions. Yes those who do it without remorse are evil.
But those who are forced into such a position see it as an only viable option in a given situation if meant do destroy one planet to save the galaxy then some times touch choices have to be made and out comes are so black and white.
Historians in the Star Wars Universe will look at it as complex problem that had complex solutions that may not have been seen as the most morale but most viable at the time. Does that make the Republic evil and the Jedi commander who carried it out evil. Yes it could be in the context of that specific issue from political and morality issue. However It if you look at it from the Clone Wars as a whole you will see that the CIS were also building weapons of terror to gain control of the Galaxy themselves. All though the average CIS senator and supporter was not bad and felt they were fighting for a cause that was just. Many Key Leaders such as Wat Tambor, Nut Gunray, Ventress, General Lok Durd, General Grevious, Pogel the Lesser and Dooku represented evil side of the CIS. Through Greed, Manipulation, Pyschological Terror, Brute Force and illegal back door business dealings, even enslavement and Genocide as well. makes them look even worse than the republic and even the Empire at times. And The Empire is like known for being Evil and Sadistic to enforce its rule on the galaxy lol.

I'm sorry, but "hyper-point destabilizer" sounds absolutely terrifying. Names like that are always on the creepiest gadgets. Not every Star Wars superweapon needs to be named in accordance with the Tarkin Doctrine. Star Forge sounds pretty innocuous doesn't it? Mass Shadow Generator? These kind of names are nightmare hyperfuel.

As uncreative as this sounds it would probably be something like a YT-1300 just because I agree with the concept that they can hide by fitting in with all the other legitimate ones out there. Like in the real world if you were trying to smuggle an average looking Honda Civic would be a better than a larger van or faster sports car.
