    🎬 Video Overview:
This is a complete follow along of painting kitchen cabinets for a client. She had stained cabinets that closely matched her floors. She wanted to brighten the kitchen and get some contrast between her floors and her cabinets. These cabinets took 5 days to paint and turned out fantastic. Even though the homeowner told me not to prep the countertops because they were getting replaced, I still should have prepped them!

I'm a general contractor, and i do a lot of kitchen and bath renovations, and i have occasional clients who request kitchen refinishing. I typically steer them away from it because of some of the poor jobs I've seen done. But your work in this video has opened my eyes to new possibilities. Thank you for sharing. Great job. I learned from my father as well, and I'm so grateful for his tutelage, as i make a great living doing things he and i shared before he passed. Blue Collar Pride is a real thing!

Making a 2nd comment here - I have watched so many of your videos at this point over the last 6 months getting ready to tackle our cabinets. We finally did this week and I just have to say, thank you.
Your advice has been priceless and we followed it to a 'T'. Paint selection, primer, home sprayer type, paint to water ratios, effort put into properly taping/prep, how fast to spray, all of it. I was terrified we were going to ruin our cabinets and I couldn't be more pleased with how they turned out.
Thank you for putting this channel out and taking the time to film it, it made a big difference for us.

As a Construction Inspector and project Manager for many decades I watched and enjoyed every minute of this video. Real "craftsmen" are a rare find these days. Attention to detail, good prep work, keeping the worksite safe and clean, and quality products are all the necessary components to a good job that lasts for years. Nice work! Even if your son never paints another cabinet he has learned invaluable lessons the will apply to any career he chooses. Good job for teaching him these valuable life lessons!

OUTSTANDING! Watched all 36 minutes! Our kitchen is almost EXACT as this kitchen! I was quite nervous to paint white over dark wood. You did an INCREDIBLE job showing and detailing EACH STEP, and why. I loved that you shared all of your tools and paints used! Including the drying rack! I now know what to buy!! You and your son must be incredibly proud of your work and the finished product! I am certain the home owners must be thrilled! Thank you so much! You should try an electric spray from home depot or something similar. I used one to paint a wood fence as well as the eaves and fascia of the house. Really holds up well and is convenient, especially since brushing or rolling can be tedious. I typically use water based and dilute a bit until a even flow and texture is being applied.

Watched all 34 minutes. There are very few videos that show how much effort goes into this level of full size kitchen update. I love how you clearly defined how important and time consuming the prep work is, and the quality of work shows through at the end. Now when homeowners say, it's just paint, there's a way to convert that into money... (5 days x two people x hourly rate) + materials and all of a sudden it makes sense. And thanks to your helpers. Very well done.

as the 1/2" dowel does sag under the weight of the doors. Plus the 4" distance between dowels is tight. You have to really be careful when sliding the doors in.

Great video. Didn’t seem too long because of the detail you go into. About to embark on painting our kitchen cupboards & this video has been incredibly helpful for me. Will be my first time doing cupboards and now I feel prepared. Thank you for all the tips, especially caulking, and product info.

We are so glad we watched the entire video! We loved the amount of tips you gave, from the drying rack, to the caulking. We bought some used cabinets and are planning to paint them all for use in our remodel and I am certain so many tips from you will make the difference!

Yep I watched the whole thing! Very nice job! I’m a perfectionist and obviously you are too. I find it amazing what you can learn watching these videos, like a thin line of paintable caulking where surfaces meet and painted they look so seamless.

Great job on the painting and the video. I've done a few kitchens with both airless and hvlp and always seem to underestimate how long it will take. It was good to see this and compare. Thanks for sharing so generously!

The cabinets look amazing. Perhaps you could do a mock-up of the different finishes on a door so we can see the difference between them. I enjoyed watching your process.😊😊😊

Great great video! Thank you so much! We are homeowners wanting to spray our cabinets ourselves and this is SO HELPFUL. We appreciate your great explanations and the DAY 1, DAY 2, and DAY 3. Gives us a realistic timeline. Also, thank you for your humility about the black countertops! We all wish we did something different in hindsight. GREAT VIDEO.

I’m getting ready to paint my kitchen cabinets and I definitely will use some of the tips you recommended! I did watch the 34 min video, it was well worth it and thank you for taking the time to go through it all in such great detail. It really only felt like 10min! I also liked the rack you put the doors on.

Thanks! Thanks! Thanks! My father was a Dutch master carpenter- I REALLY appreciate your detailed explanation and pride in your work.
I am hoping to use this video instructional inspiration to paint my small kitchen this year and learned so much I feel confident I can DIY other paint projects.
Also - my brothers and I worked alongside my dad like your son does here and he also worked with some of my brothers friends who have all told me as adults that although they don’t do the same work as when they worked with my father what they learned from him about work ethic has been invaluable and added to their success.

I did watch the entire video and am especially impressed with your prep and care for the surrounding ceilings and walls. My dad was a painter by trade and I worked with him for many years so I know the skill and experience needed to do quality work. If you lived in Eastern Ontario I would hire you in a heartbeat.

@@tommyneal1491 I'd charge $5500 here in Texas for this job. I use Advance with coverstain primer

Love this! Personally I use the stix primer like you mentioned and the pearl finish on the advance line. Love the sheen it leaves and homeowners love how easy it cleans also. I'll definitely need to try out the satin sheen! Also a little trick I found was using a cooking rack that i bought from a restaurant which was closing that I use on all my projects to hold the cabinets and it works great.

The Advance satin is a beautiful finish but I moved to Coronado. It's still a beautiful finish at a much lower cost with a 4 hour recoat time vs. the Advance 16 hour dry time. It doesn't have as hard of a finish as Advance but it's still great. Just used it in my living room and I love it.

I watched the whole thing. (Granted, I’m in a hotel room on business with nothing better to do).
Pretty inspiring. I think it’s a safe bet that we will end up doing this to our kitchen sometime in the next 2 years so you’re in my ‘saved to watch later’ list.
    Thanks again!
