Good morning Polly, I know what you mean sometimes I just need to walk away from painting. It’s funny because my being out for a while gave me time to think and now I’m looking for new things to paint and fix. Lol. You have a great day and thank you!
Thanks for the dry roll method. It’s a game changer. I painted my cabinets and dry rolled them along the way. The cabinets look great. Thanks for helping a very terrible painter get better!

Glad to see a new video. I'm with you on the microfiber rollers. I argued with a friend who is staunch 'spray guy' and proved it could be done as well. I used Sherwin Williams Emerald paint but same process as you. Nice 😁
The first video I saw of yours was a couple of years ago with you showing how to roll a cabinet door. I've been a subscriber ever since. I'm so glad you're doing better!!
I’m painting my cabinets with the same paint so I’m hoping the Paint has longevity as well. Thanks for the encouragement, I’ll still be kicking in my grave lol.
Thanks my friend, to be honest this was the first time I used a Cabinet specific waterborne paint but I really like it. I’ve been using this dry roll method for a good 10 years and it works well with any latex paint. I hope this gallery series proves to have longevity because I am painting my kitchen very soon with it. Do you have a great day!
So glad I saw this. I have been taking with SW about this particular product. The price was a concern plus how this product would touch up. I’m sold now that I have seen how versatile it is. Plus the dry time is very important. Thanks
Thanks for your help your video is perfectly clear and easily understood. I have painted (brushed, rolled and sprayed many a cabinet door and more furniture than I can count. Just viewing your few minutes of video told me everything I need to know! I will definitely do it your way … if there is ever another next time!!! Thanks again
With your experience, this will be a no-brainer for you. I love using this technique because it blows peoples minds. I brought this door to Sherwinn Williams the other day, because I was picking out new colors for my bathroom. I was showing them how it looked compared to the video and several painters were in there picking up paint. I think they didn’t believe I painted it with a roller till I showed them the video lol. A lot of compliments. You have a wonderful day and thank you!
Good morning Carolyne, I must say for an inexpensive brush. It is very good. I’ve always spent good money on my brushes when I was in the construction business. I purchased these brushes to Stump my epoxy because they were inexpensive and the bristles did not come out. I find myself using this as much as my more expensive Purdy and Corona brushes lol…. You have a great day and thanks!
I first watched you on how to build a large no sagging gate 😊 I did it and my gate is still straight. I enjoy your videos, and have learned a lot . Very glad to hear your doing better, 🙏🏽 for your good health. Thanks 5:245:26
Good morning Pete, I love to see people use my tips in a useful way! One of my gates started to sag just a little bit on the left side of my house and I was shocked because I did it several years back with no problems. I open the gate all the time and it has a lot of leaves in that area so when it storms they pile up on the gate. The lag bolts had too much pressure from me pushing the gate open with the leaves. It turned out the 2x4’s were starting to wear from the lag bolts pulling, so I drilled them out and put threaded bolts with nuts through it. Solid is a rock again. Have a great day Pete and thanks!
Thanks MICHAEL I really appreciate that! I built my kitchen cabinets several years back and painted them. I will be changing the color very soon and I plan on doing a video showing how I would do the whole kitchen. I am just trying to talk my wife into letting me do it. She says I’m always doing some type of project and she’s tired of seeing me work on the house lol.😂
Thank you Herb I really appreciate that! It feels good to get back into the saddle again. I see my oncologist this Wednesday and I’m hoping for good news. Have a great day!
I am painting my bathroom right now; I really like their paint. I like a few brands, but I have never been disappointed in Sherwin Williams paint. Are you using the Gallery series paint?
Thank you Wayne, it’s great to be back. Period. I’m working on some projects but I have a lot of doctors appointments and different things going in the mix. I will have a video coming out shortly. Have a great night!
Good morning, my brother, how’s the Fire Dept going over there? It’s good to be back and I can’t wait to get back full force. Have a good day and be safe brother!
Hi Joe, I am about to do my kitchen, when my wife lets me pull the trigger I have a video on it lol. I already purchased the paint so it’s harder for her to change her mind 😂😂😂😂 have a good day
Well, I have to say that I'm just a little taken aback after watching this video. I'm a retired painter and only just now coming out of a battle with Cancer. I don't know what your illness was and it doesn't matter bc illness is what illness is (or WAS!) but that feeling of coming back.... WHEW! Nothing quite like it, right Paul!!?? On top of all that, I'm in the process of tackling my MOST hated job and that's my kitchen cabinets!! I thought " Since I'm finally starting to feel better, let's get into something that will get those creative juices going again!" and the kitchen was screaming for a little help. I chose to do a quick starter job and brush primed (awful!) and brush painted the first two doors and the first three drawer fronts, figuring I'll sand them all down in a month or so and spray a third and final coat. NOT NOW! I'm going to sand these down and dry roll them, then move on to the next two and the next two and so on till they're all done and super presentable. THANKS. Not just for the tips, but the power to keep me moving toward my "better place"! Peace and love from a recovering Arizona guy!! Keep moving forward ans stay well.
Wow James, thank God you beat it! What kind of Cancer did you battle? It’s definitely a road no one wants to travel….I beat throat cancer in 2008. It changed my way of life, but at least I’m still here. I developed AFIB in 2021 and had several TIA’s until having the 1/2 maze heart surgery with an atrial clip. I developed pneumonia in the hospital and spent a week in ICU. I got home and a week later I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. I caught it a little late so I had many complications and still having tests done. I’ve had 5 surgeries and an ablation since Nov. 2021. Feeling better now than I have in years and ready to get back to normal. God bless you James and have a great day!
Wow! Thanks, Paul. I'm sending this video link to my family members. I have a home that needs some TLC and this is a perfect tutorial for when I get to the kitchen and bathrooms.
Thank you Shirley, I know exactly what you mean. I learned how to do construction when I was in my early 20s. I have always fixed everything on my home because I did not have the money to pay someone and now it’s a matter of pride lol. I just like doing things myself. I purchased all my tools from pawnshops until I could afford to buy new ones. My boys tease me and tell me that I have more tools in Home Depot. I realized early on that I could spend $250 on a tool and do it myself or I could spend $500 on someone to do it for me. please do me a big favor and go to paulstoolbox.com. In the contact form put in your mailing address. I have a small gift that I would like to send to you. It will come in handy on your job site. also put in your RUclips channel name so I will know it is you. Have a great day!
Thank you my friend, I’m drinking a beer while reading this and almost spit it out..lol. It’s funny because I went to Sherwin-Williams and told him I thought I could do it and they laughed. I brought it back and they were shocked. Have a good night, my friend!
I wondered what happened to your video posts, I'm glad your back. I especially liked your swinging gate video. Solid stuff! Thanks again and enter me in that contest.
Good to see you again, Paul. Thanks for this video. Several years ago I used one of your previous tips of adding polycrilic to latex for a high gloss finish and it still looks great today.
I love a good video full of useful information!! That's why I love your channel!! You're the best, Paul!! 💛💙 Still praying for you! Thank you for the video!
@@paulstoolbox Hi Paul. You told one of the commenters that you had an appointment this past Wednesday. We haven't heard from you in over a week. I'm hoping that's because you just haven't made another video. Let us hear from you. Still praying. Ps.) Don't make me worry! 😊
Great Paul to see you doing well and keep up the positive attitude! I do have two questions though with the cabinet painting. 1- Did you use a primer on your existing cabinet doors before using the color paint? 2- Is there a time with the dry rolling that you feel you need to change and use a new roller? I have 18 cabinet doors and of course the facials and the sides of the cabinets so just trying to get an idea before starting.
Good morning Rose Marie, I recommend cleaning them with alcohol, scuffing them then priming them before painting. I like to use Rustoleum spray primer. When painting the inside cabinets, you can do the same procedure, but I usually dry roll a water-based primer... Bullseye Zinser 123 or Kiltz 2. I keep several rollers handy with a small bucket of water. I can usually do numerous doors before trading them out. I will put it in water and use a new one. The micro fiber rollers are very reasonable on Amazon. Thanks, and good luck. I'm sorry I missed your comment, I must not have hit the reply button because I remember writing to you.
The micro fibers are awesome rollers I use them on everything I paint. I have wanted to use the Gallery paint the day it hit the shelves, but unfortunately I don’t have a small HVLP, so now I’m anxious to try it with a small 4” whizz micro cover. Thank you for the video! God Bless and Godspeed on your recovery Paul!
Yeah, I got hooked on those microfiber rollers. My favorites before that were wool with the microfiber are even better. I could not believe the price of them on Amazon. It doesn’t make up for the cost of the gallery paint but it’s nice to get a good price on anything nowadays.😂😂
Thank you Regina I really appreciate that! I felt like something was missing when I was not able to do my videos. I’m glad to be back. Have a great weekend!
Thanks William, I am painting my bathroom right now with Sherwinn Williams flat Emerald paint. What I like about it is the fact that it is totally scrubbable and easily touched up. I don’t deal with Sherwin-Williams but I really like their paint. It’s obvious they’re proud of their paint because it is not cheap. I wish their prices were a little lower, but it is what it is.
I am a first time watching your video. Totally enjoyed it. Enjoyed your enthusiasm, you well spoken words and love the tips will be seen more of you. Thank you very much.
I failed to mention that this technique will work with any smooth surface and any water-based paint. You can practice on small things with a cheap paint and then move up if you want. Have a great day and thanks!
Thank you Paul. It’s so nice to see back I’ve been concerned about you, prayers have been answered. I went to their website and entered the drawing. I was considering buying the Emerald paint now I’m thinking I should get this paint instead!!
Hello Paula, how have you been? No need to worry about me, I will beat this again. This is just a stumbling block. I use the Emerald paint on my walls because I love to have a scrubbable flat paint. If you are looking to match the factory look, the gallery is an awesome choice . So far I think it’s pretty darn durable, the only thing is it’s new and I have not had time to test the longevity of it. All in all Sherwin-Williams has very good paint. Of course they’re proud of it and they show that in the price lol……Gallery cost more than double that of Emerald paint. It is always good to hear from you and thank you for your prayers. Have a wonderful day! PS. Thank you for participating in the drawing!
@@paulstoolbox thank you Paul I am doing well, I will continue to pray for you to be free from the horrible disease you have. Keep up the good work you have so much priceless skills that you need to get out to those who need help.
Good morning Paula, please go to my website *Paulstoolbox.com* and send me your mailing information . You are a winner of the Texture gun and bags. Also add your RUclips channel name. Have a great day and thanks!! @Paula-po9kx
I usually prep my pieces by wiping them down with 91% or denatured alcohol. You can scuff the piece prior to painting with 320 grit sandpaper, or the steel wool that I showed in the video. If you scuff it, you will not have to prime your doors but if you choose to use primer, I like to use rustoleum gray primer in the spray can. This paint bonds really well. Thanks and have a great day!
It all depends on the finish. You have on your existing cabinet. If you have latex paint on it, then the answer is no, but if you have an oil base or sometimes a sealer over your stain, you will probably have to prime it or scuff it. This paint bonds really well, and I was able to spray it on some cabinet doors that were stained without or sanding, but I’d had one oil base door that it did not stick on. I just thought I would test it to see. If you have a small spot on the back of the door and you were definitely going to paint it, you can do the fingernail test. Put a little bit of paint on that without scuffing it come back when it dries and try to scrape it off with your fingernail or a key if it’s scrapes off easily and you definitely need to scuff it. I hope this helps and good luck!
@paulstoolbox thank you for answering! They are older ikea, red wood look type ( factory stain and satin finish). I ll try a patch. What primer should I get if I need it?
Hey buddy, I purchased your crown stop fence kit a while back and I planned on using it. Unfortunately, I got sick and have not done anything yet. I really like the quality and design. I can’t wait to start back so I can try them out. Have a great day and thanks!
@@paulstoolbox I know! Man you must have been thru a lot. Health is everything. I have a much improved set of fences for you now. Let me send you a free set. You paid for the first set. These new ones are taller and made improvements to the slide bar. I think a lot of people are glad you back and better.
@@M5PaintCrew I'm sorry I missed your question. Yes, you apply your paint with a brush and then use a dry roller to flatten out the brush strokes. You use the same roller until the paint starts to dry on the roller. Do not apply the paint thick with the brush, it's better to apply a couple of thin coats rather than 1 thick coat. Thanks!
If you have any questions, just drop me a note. You can send it on my website paulstoolbox.com. I know you’ll do a great job and thanks for taking the time for me! Have a great day!
Thank you, I can’t tell you how good it feels to be back. These projects are helping me get my mind straight. Especially when I read comments like yours. Have a great day!
I'm glad you are doing well! I am itching to paint my kitchen cabinets. This looks like a great technique. I assume it would work for the face frames and side panels on my cabinets. I don't need to enter for the compressor. I already have a California Air Tools compressor and it is great!
Yes, I paint all my face frames like this even when I would spray my doors because I don't have to tape and mask. I really like the quiet California air compressors. I wish they had these when I was younger. The loud compressors were really bad in new construction homes....LOL
Glad your back making videos, praying for your good health.

@@paulstoolboxprimer even if it’s the same color ?
Wow. Thank you for this technique!!!
I've been looking for a good product to paint cabinets. Thanks!
Thank you!!
Glad to see your back making great videos for us diyers!
It's not his back that makes the videos!
Hey Paul,
I'm happy that you're doing well, sending prayers
Thanks so much, I really appreciate your prayers! Have a great day!
So glad to have you back!
I appreciate your kind words, it means a lot to me.
I'm going to try this! Hope it's as easy as you say!
Great that you are back !!!!!!!!
Thank you Regina I really appreciate that! I felt like something was missing when I was not able to do my videos. I’m glad to be back. Have a great weekend!
Great video!! My wife wants the cabinets painted!
Great looking painted door. Going to check into this S/W paint. Thanks Paul.
I use a roller as
Well for my cabinets, used melamine paint… turned out great… that paint looks easier yet!
I am a first time watching your video. Totally enjoyed it. Enjoyed your enthusiasm, you well spoken words and love the tips will be seen more of you. Thank you very much.
Thank you very much Christine, I totally enjoyed reading your post! Have a good night!
It is good to know you are ok. Thank you for your videos.
I am definitely on the right track with the right doctors. Thank you. I really appreciate that. You have a good day Lance and God bless!
Great video! Painting cabs is so tedious! This looks awesome and efficient
I failed to mention that this technique will work with any smooth surface and any water-based paint. You can practice on small things with a cheap paint and then move up if you want. Have a great day and thanks!
New subscriber here😀 Wonderful content that I’ll use when I paint our old yellow oak cabinets- thank you and wishing you continued good health.
I'm always looking for a better way to do things. Thanks
Great to see you back. Love your videos.
Thank you so much, I really appreciate that! I have to tell you it is very good to get back in the saddle again. Have a great day!

Happy to see you're back.
Where's the prep before applying the paint ? Like degreasing and primer ?
I usually prep my pieces by wiping them down with 91% or denatured alcohol. You can scuff the piece prior to painting with 320 grit sandpaper, or the steel wool that I showed in the video. If you scuff it, you will not have to prime your doors but if you choose to use primer, I like to use rustoleum gray primer in the spray can. This paint bonds really well. Thanks and have a great day!
As a seasoned DIYer ive found that good paint is worth it.
Definitely!! I m with you on that note. Have a good night!
Wow I’m impressed, thank you for showing us Paul 👍😁
Thank you, Dave, I really appreciate that! You have a great day!
This is great. May I know if I need to prime my kitchen doors? They are clean from tsp
Great job, I have been looking for this type of video and I found it today. I am very happy
Looking good Paul. GOD bless you. Looking forward to seeing you around and making your great videos.
Thanks for the great tip (using a dry roller). I acheived amazing results. My cabinets look like they have been sprayed... Thanks so much!
Great to hear, thank you!!!
Forgive me... I spray cabinets and I'm over it. I want to roll. I have a question... What is a "dry roller"?
Not dipping the roller?
@@M5PaintCrew I'm sorry I missed your question. Yes, you apply your paint with a brush and then use a dry roller to flatten out the brush strokes. You use the same roller until the paint starts to dry on the roller. Do not apply the paint thick with the brush, it's better to apply a couple of thin coats rather than 1 thick coat. Thanks!
My kitchen cabinets need renewing and this looks like just what I need
If you have any questions, just drop me a note. You can send it on my website paulstoolbox.com. I know you’ll do a great job and thanks for taking the time for me! Have a great day!

Haven’t heard of this method before. Will have try this method soon. Thanks for the great video!
Good morning, I've been using this method for years and it works well, I'm sure you will be happy using it. Thank you and have a great day!
I just subscribed! Love these tips and tricks😊 your garage is on point btw! Looking forward to more goodies- Thanks!
Thank you for sharing the technique! Is 15 mins between coats enough? Cabinet paints I looked at usually recommend hours between coats.
Keep up the great videos, glad to see you are on the mend!
Thank you David, i’m really glad I can get back and I appreciate you like you! Have a great weekend!
