Your idea for the hinged mantle lifter to align the holes worked perfectly for me. Thanks for the great tip. Made installing soooo much easier and worked like a charm
This ruclips.net/user/postUgkxATHBlMJwipGgVWseuAFKvDQ_5R4_lywo unit was an easy install and turned out amazing. The dimensions were exact! I took a chance and built the wall prior to receiving the unit which arrived sooner than expected and it fit right in the space I constructed. The heat output is perfect for the space we needed and made the room exactly how we envisioned it to turn out. I am happy to answer any questions to the best of my ability. Thank you for the awesome product just in time for the holidays.
This is amazing! I’ve been considering installing an electric fireplace to my living room and I never considered building out the wall to hold the fireplace. Makes a lot of sense and looks gorgeous.
I love what you did with the fireplace, so crafty & skillful.. the electric fireplace may not be real, but it works just great without the smoke, ashes, etc.. being that I grew up with real fireplaces. I am in a NY condo now no chimney.. lol..and long for an LED fireplace with lighting & design options within a mantle that you can build yourself. That's great.. You helped me decide to just go for it. I have one suggestion, I would change the (home picture) to something that will pop right next to that fantastic fireplace that you have put together. Something that relates to the theme of the room. 👍 🤩
Hi! You can find answers to most of these questions in the video description box and the blog post that goes with this project too. All links are in video description box :)
This looks absolutely amazing, I was searching for a idea to frame an electric fireplace and you have given me some great points here love that beautiful old barn beam. Great job thank you for sharing.
This is the best diy fireplace that I have seen this year. I like how he kept is simple and very easy to put together. I will definitely be keeping this to my DIY saves.
Hi. Nice work. One question: since the electric line to the fireplace is a standard 110v outlet, did you have to creat a door of some type in the shiplap to access the outlet to meet local or state electrical codes?
Good day! i have a few questions as it will be my 1st time building fire place....when you said you used 2x6, 2x4s for strength and 2x3 to save money can you specify where did you used the wood on frame? Also the bolts and pipes what size? i couldn't understand you. thanks so much
Thank you for your comment Damaris, this blog post on our website: healthygrocerygirl.com/2021/12/03/diy-fireplace-building-plans/ should answer these questions for you :-)
Thanks for sharing your project & providing the inspiration. Offering some feedback as a new viewer to your channel: love all of the detailed info on how you built the surround, where you found the materials along w/your feedback on the fireplace. Only thing that’s a negative for me is the music. Had to mute & go to captions after a few minutes. I know it’s just a personal opinion but thinking maybe other viewers might feel the same??
Hi Joey (Aaron here) there is a gap between the shiplap and baseboard on both sides, on the right hand side I filled it with caulk. The left side which you can see in the video is a bigger gap, has not been filled. The reason it is big and still open is because behind my fireplace is the ethernet outlet for our living room, I have an ethernet cable connected (you can see this in the video) and my plan was to run this cable over to our tv to have a connection better than wifi. But since upgrading our Roku, that no longer seems necessary. I just have not dealt with it since, we mostly keep a basket of kids toys in that corner so it is not noticeable. Long answer to say use caulk :-)
I am going to attempt a similar project for my wife inspired by your design. Where did you get the reclaimed barn wood. You mentioned California. We are SoCal residents. Thank you!
Thank you for sharing! We are planning on tackling this project as well. Loved to see your explanation on how to mount the heavy mantle! Could you all share how you mitered the corners for the clean look? Not sure what tools and method we should do.
I really appreciate you posting this video. Your husband is very thorough. But I wanted to ask him, I have a wall in my bathroom that I would I could have a fireplace in it. Is it possible to put one like yours (smaller) in a existing wall.since we can’t build an additional structure. thanks so much
I have a 75” Tv which is 65.5” in length . Got an electric insert 60” length. What would be the ideal length of shiplap to build around? The wall is 180”. Thanks.
Hello Ankit, this is Aaron here answering from Megan's account. I like the look of 8 - 12 inches on the side. So if you do a total length of 7 feet (84 inches), I would think that would look good. Cheers!
Thank you!! Also, can you suggest how high should we have base of the tv from floor. I heard if TV is higher it gives neck strain. Our fireplace is 19.5 in height.
Enjoyed your video. Do you have a drawing for the frame that you built? We are going to be installing a Napoleon Fireplace so can figure out dimensions myself but like the design of your framing. Thanks for sharing!
I really hope you can answer this question! Beautiful job btw! We bought the same fireplace. The heat vents on top like that, it clearly says do not cover. Can we leave a little gap and still mount it this exact same way? Help. We got a good deal on it and we don’t want to return it for one that has the vents in the front! Thank you so much!
Hello Mayra, Aaron here answering from Megan's account. Apologies for not answering sooner. The fireplace is designed to be inside the wall so the "vents" on the top are going to wind up covered somewhat, but I would suggest leaving as much gap as possible. The vents on ours do not have any wood directly over them. Also, I do not believe much heat comes from them, when you run the heater it blows out the front of the fireplace. Hope this helps!
Where did you get the mantel? I'm sure people have asked but I cannot find it. Plz let me know because we want to do this exact setup. .. pictures to follow!
Please help!! What type of metal pole did you use for your mantle? Did you add the wood block at the base as the support to hold the poles or did you drill the pole into the framework where the stud was?
Aaron here... apologies for the late reply. The metal pole is just electrical conduit; cheap, easy to cut and strong enough. I used wood blocks at the base. I did not know exactly where they would line up, so blocks worked better than pre-drilled holes in the framework. Cheers!

Hello Rishab, Aaron here answering from Megan's account. The bottom of the fireplace frame is 18 inches from the floor. I planned the center of the fireplace to hit inline with one of the shiplap gaps, to make everything symmetrical. That point, the center of the fireplace, is 26.5 inches from the floor.

Hello, how much did this project cost excluding the electric fireplace? And also separately how much did the live wood beam cost? Or if you have the cost details for each of this that would be helpful.
The heat is blown out the front top edge of the fireplace, I am not exactly sure what those vents visible on the top are for, but the heat goes out the front! Thanks for watching!
Awesome build! What are the fireplace distance from the floor and how high did you mount the mantle? I'm looking to rework our fireplace with an electric one like this.
Hello Jason. Aaron here answering from Megan's account. I based the fireplace and mantle height off of where the shiplap gaps fell. So it really depends on the exact dimensions of the shiplap you use. But for ours, the center of the fireplace is about 26.5 inches from the floor and the center of the mantle is about 53 inches from the floor. Hope this helps!
We love this fireplace and ordered the exact same one from Modern Blaze with your link provided. It arrived today and it did not come with the thick black magnetic outer frame, instead it came with a pewter thin frame. I was assuming the additional frame option came with it. Did you purchase a different frame separately? This changes the look drastically and we do not like it without it. Thanks for your help!
Hi! We did not purchase a separate frame, the one you see in our video and photos is the only frame that came with the fireplace. I clicked on the link for our fireplace again after reading your comment and it and it is hard to tell just from the images but it looks like maybe Dynasty Fireplaces (the maker of the fireplace) I looked around on the Modern Blaze website and found a different fireplace that looks more like ours with the thick black magnetic frame and it also has the ability to be controlled by your phone! Maybe you can exchange what you have for the one that looks more like the one we have / seen in our video?! Hi, I reached out to Modern Blaze and received the following response: "Yes, the frame piece has changed to a thinner one than the one shown in the blog. Unfortunately, the manufacturer no longer carriers the old trim kit for it". I reviewed the Dynasty website and the options that do have a thicker kit show a very different display compared to the nicer one on this channel. I was really hoping that I could buy the exact fireplace....
@@HealthyGroceryGirl We ended up immediately reaching out to the manufacturer and they were able to ship out the original frame like yours at no cost, but that was 2 years ago, soon after my original post. We used basic white paint, with low sheen. Since the shiplap came primed white already. I did not paint the grooves at all, just left them primed.
