I know , right ? Use a well padded vice and screw drivers that fit each individual screw. It's a very simple firearm. I like to remove the bolt for a thorough cleaning every so often and re grease the bolt ways . I've been complemented on the smoothness of my 94 and most of it is simple maintenance.
Man this was great! Just got my mom's Win 94 and it hasn't been shot in 15+ years. I've cleaned pistols and shotguns but never a lever. I too spend most of the time talking to myself. Appreciate the thorough breakdown!
Helping a relative with one of these. Theirs was made in early (Jan or Feb) 1897 (!). Thing has all the options too (pewter caps, tang sights, etc., etc.). Haven't done lever guns a whole lot since I was a younger. I used to have a different model but almost as old. Big mistake neglecting spending time with levers, these things are fun and I haven't had this much nostalgia in a while! Your video helped me a lot. Thanks! BTW I highly suggest tapeing the frame (blue painters not masking) to prevent scratches from slips (just don't slip no matter if taped or not, take your time) and use Brownell's expensive screwdriver set and make sure each bit fits width and length and full depth. Otherwise you will muck up those heads. Never overtighten either. There is even older stuff in the extensive collection. Like way, way older. Makes me wished I had more safe space and cash and a closer range. I'd throw an offer if the family didn't want. Sucks to be poor but pays to be knowledgeable. I am the guy many people and shops ask when they have no answers from anyone else. I get to see some cool stuff. This gun while common, is one of the first ever made (first percentile ever made). Older I get the more skookum (super cool) older guns are.
well i just found out that this old winchester 94 that my grandfather gave to me was manufactured in 1906, so i definitely need to take care of it. This video is my first step to take care of it
That's what I do also and they only had to clean the barrel but they said next month when you come back we will have to take it fully apart to clean it depends how much I use it I shoot it almost every day all except if it is raining or snowing or snow on the ground because it is really cold and I don't want to fall on the ground it's a model 88 but I had it made with a small scope I made it so it can't come off without taking the gun apart my dad's friend used to make them when I turned 21 and I passed my gun classes my Dad's friend said he will make 1 for me and I told him what I wanted and he made it for me he made it before I passed my gun classes the gun was free I told him thank you my dad was surprised
I inherited a pre64, and I took it to a gunsmith for cleaning/function check...since then I fire a few rounds (3-5) every year, then clean the bore, and wipe what I can reach, call it a day...some guns I don't mind breaking down, but the Winchester I leave alone...
@@pawild5594 I have one in .44mag with a Pearson’s no drill picatinny mount and if you want to use it for something like a red dot or LPVO it will work just fine aside from having to do a slight rezero after each cleaning
Hey bud, GREAT VIDEO!! Very thorough and you were zoomed in on each part to let us know exactly what it was you were pulling off? Good stuff my friend, thankyou!! Do you by chance know what that last spring you pulled with the screw in the question mark end is actually called?? Just curious as im trying to teach myself the proper terminology for all the parts of my 94AE WINNY'?? All the best brother!!
I followed this and sheared the ejector pin off my bolt assembly. Completely my fault, not this videos, but I clearly have problems following instructions correctly. Thanks anyways!
8 minutes in and Im having second thoughts taking mine apart lol.
Me too!
Yep! After watching this, not sure I'm ever taking it fully apart
For sure I would NEVER be able to reassemble it! When I saw him pull the long spring out I just quit watching...lol
Nothing like an instructional video with the instructor guessing how to proceed.

At Minute 6 I tought, damm you have to put this back together!
Sorry but "reverse order" doesn't work that easy......putting things back is always 40 times harder......need part 2 of the video

Haha...glad you liked it
I appreciate your video. I have a '94 that needs chamber side cleaning. It's nice to see a disassembly.

After watching this I’m taking mine to a gun smith for sure.

Excellent video!!! Just got my father in laws old 94 that was made in 77 I believe. I know about pre 64 vs post but I don't care it's still cool!
How do you tell the difference I have my grandpas but I’ve never shot it?
Thanks for the video I was terrified to do a full break down I usually just wipe it down the best I can and take care of the barrel

Just got a pre 64 for my 18th birthday today. Needs a solid cleaning. Thanks for the information.
Great video! I have one in .32 Special I've been meaning to do this to. Thanks for giving me an idea what I'm up against.
That's why I'm watching to. I don't know if I'd attempt it still. I'd definately catalog parts and pieces carefully. I'm sure it needs it.
Just reverse ! lol. Easy for you to say ! lol. Thanks for posting! 💙🇺🇸🙋♂️👍🖖🏻
Wow you really tore that apart.
Those two little dummy screws are for mounting a Redfield or Williams peep sight.
Nice I was wondering, with the bolt that top ejects sights become an issue I'd guess anyway. So is a scope not an option for this model?
@@pawild5594 scope is doable, but not perfect. Weaver and probably others made a no drill side mount that uses existing screw holes on the left side.

you do NOT need to take down a Winchester for cleaning, unless for a major problem
So I’ve now got a nice and clean Winchester, just gotta find out how to put it back together
Watch the rebuild video...
Halfway through and I’m convinced never to disassemble one of these things. Someone invented a bore snake for a reason, and this is it.
Best video out there thanks
Thanks bud
I have a pre 64 that would benefit from a tear down and clean but after watching this nope. Its just fine the way it is lol.
Really? It's not bad at all.
I paid a gunsmith to deep clean mine...I just clean bore, wipe and quit...the gun sees 3-5 rounds a year...it will keep...
Impressive
THANK YOU
Pre “64,post “64,what I’ve found out is that they both kill the deer just as dead.
Were you able to get it back together properly? Is there a video on that?
There is a part 2 assembly video. Cheers 🍻.
Great video thank you

Great Job!! I am a newbe to this subject. The punch you are using is a 3/32 the same as a 3 30 second?
Needed cleaning? Looks like it had less than 10 rounds through it.
Ya its a nice one. Lot of carbon in the barrel.
The bullet tube on mine isn’t coming out it’s givin me anger issues lol. It’s been in need of a cleaning for years
Nice, but I would never get it together again!
That is my fear with this particular firearm...I just clean bore, wipe what I can get to, and call it a day...
Great job!!! I need to buy a set of punches . Is 3/32 the same as a 3 30 second? I 'm new to this subject.
Yes
@@Berzerk29 Thanks !!!! I Used your instruction and putting it back together was easy.
Hello PA!!
Does this also all apply to the winchester ranger rifle?
Yes it’s been awhile. Putting it back will be more funner. 😂
Well I did it on my .44 mag today and luckily after taking it apart and cleaning it only took an hour and a half to reassemble🤦♂️😂
wait.. you need to get one? ... you're disassembling someone else's gun? hmm
