I do some test blends in 9 oz bottles I got for that purpose. Been experimenting with some blends and hit on one that is really good. 2 parts LBP + 1 part Ben Holliday Soft Red Wheat. I added a used oak spiral (new ones are too intense in this small of a bottle, ask me how I know! :) ) and let it age for 3 months, man was it good. Plan on making a 750 sized blend as soon as I get some more LBP! I recently got some Green River wheated and Bardstown wheated and will plan on doing something with them as well (not sure what yet).
I really had fun last week, blending a bourye. I was thinking about throwing a stave in it. Idk though because I used a toasted bourbon as my base. I'll save this vid and try some of these.
Hey perfect video, I have been wanted a list of blends because I have been enjoying a few blends lately. love that you came up with a few. so I will be making soon. cheers

Just came across your channel. I'm located in Tucson too and I'm fairly new to the Bourbon world. Any recommendations on good locations to try around here for tastings or purchasing? I've been to Batch and usually just go to Total Wine or Plaza Liquor for purchasing.
I love this video!! So many more recipes than just Poor Mans and Prudent Pappy. If I may indulge with a few questions, what do you mix and age with the spiral into? I tried Poor Mans with a bottle, but it was a pain to get the spiral out, would it be better in a mason jar, then transfer to a bottle? And you mentioned aging them in your garage, does that help with the heat to transfer the oak from the spiral? I never would have thought that in glass it could, but it's something more for me to try. And, is there a minimum size for the spiral, such as 750 ml? Have you ever cut spirals for trying smaller mixes? And how often can you reuse spirals before they're spent? Thank you if you take the time to answer any of this, love the channel!
I would say the small ones I use are perfect for 750 ml bottles. Link in the description. Heat will cause faster oak extraction, but I have heard it can also spoil whiskey if it gets too hot. So use caution. I age in bottle, and the small ones I use are easy to get out. I just dump the whole thing into a larger container then back in without the spiral. I have reused them, but they don't do much the second time. Think second use bourbon barrel, it will do something, but not as much as a fresh one. I hope that helps! Feel free to respond to this if you have more questions! Cheers buddy thanks for watching 🥃

Thoughts on adding a barrel spiral to Jack Daniels (maybe a blend of SBBP and Bonded) to see how it compares to Jack 10 and 12? Could be an interesting experiment.
A few months back I made a Prudent-ish Pappy that was decent, but not something I felt the need to create again. Since then I've thrown spirals into some infinity bottles where I dump the ends of my mediocre bottles as I run them down using them in mixed drinks. The first one I made... with all low proof, bottom shelf stuff... turned out ok. A little better than the sum of its parts, but not much. The second batch had some better stuff in it to begin, WT101, OGD114, Some 4-6 yr old BIB's, and some not terrible artisan bottles. After 6 weeks with a third use spiral in there, it actually came out pretty tasty. Batch 3 went in with the 4th use spiral and a fresh spiral about a week ago. And I finished off the spiral pack I had with three 1quart jar blends yesterday after watching this video and deciding to trim down the bottles I don't reach for often by doing some experiments. A: WT101 & Jack SBS B: MM101 & Michters Bourbon C: Rebel Cask Str (122) & Benchmark Top Floor
So because of your vids I went and picked up a full proof and dropped a barrel spiral in. It's only been in there a couple weeks as of right now. I think I want to try the eagle rare 17. Recently was one of the people that was lured into the Old Emmer Cask Strength at Total Wine. It's not terrible but it's mediocre at best and no way I'd grab it over anything else. I thought about just tossing an oak spiral in it, but decided a week ago to mix it with Maker's Mark, Larceny SB, and an oak spiral to bring the proof down to Pappy territory and see how that fares. Called it "Emmy van Maker" because I'm an idiot. Also, I made the Prudent WLW with the FAE-01 and an oak spiral for 2 weeks and it's just too much oak for me. I'd caution anyone who doesn't love oak out the ass to put extra oak into an already extra-oaked Maker's. Hopefully it mellows, otherwise maybe I'll try to salvage by mixing with more Maker's or something. Appreciate the videos on this subject, it's an interesting way to experiment and try to make something greater than the sum of its parts.
I'll add too that I made a topic in a couple whiskey Facebook groups asking what blends people do and was surprised at how many people blend random things. "60% Knob Creek 9 and 20% each of Benchmark Full Proof and Old Forester 100 (and let it sit a few months). Each of the 3 has a different profile and they blend together nicely." "Elijah Craig or Larceny Barrel Proofs with their 92/94-proof small batch versions when I am not in the mood for high proof. Even at 50% each, the blend retains a lot of the extra flavor punch from the Barrel Proof bottles." "Banana Pancakes = equal parts Woodford Reserve Double Oak, Old Forester 1910, Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Barrel Proof" "1:1 ECBP and ECTB.
