    Man, I have to watch more of your stuff - I feel like I could learn so much!!! I'm 54 - but have toyed with the idea of trying to do something video creation wise and/or a podcast of some sort.
    I have iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPad Air 5th Gen, and a Mac mini. Just need maybe some other cheap gear - though I know that all things on all these devices are enough as they are. Any other accessories will just make it better. :)

      Appreciate the kind words! And you have a great setup already, I'd say start shooting with your iPhone and edit on Mac mini, you're good to go! I have a complete walkthrough on starting a video podcast on the Riverside channel if you're interested: ruclips.net/video/S94dU2LVEs0/видео.htmlsi=okIkGKznyQi7SlUF

    You need a 180degree adapter so that memory stick isn’t poking out so far and it’s tucked behind the iPhone

    The one thing BMC needs to add is the ability to burn in LUTS after the fact. Actually, I'd like a little simple app that was just a color grade utility for Apple Log. Not as complicated as DaVinci Resolve, but something to easily modify the looks and apply LUTS (and perhaps de-Squeeze Anamorphic footage). - Enjoyed and Subbed BTW

    I have the 14 Pro and I know I can't film in Log; however, I talked with one of the developers and he said that, although the results weren't as good as the ones obtained with the iPhone 15 Pro, they have presets for the older iPhones.
    Do you think it's a good purchase for someone like me, who likes to shoot videos of my daughter, or is the iPhone app enough? I wanted to avoid the orange cast that sometimes plagues human faces, and the developer said that was possible...

    • @beardfm
      @beardfm  5 месяцев назад +1

      For $10 lifetime purchase, I'd say it's worth it. And if you upgrade your phone in the future, you still own the app! And the manual focus is worthwhile alone.

    • @mrlightwriter
      @mrlightwriter 5 месяцев назад

      @@beardfm Thanks for the reply! Would you say that the manual focus is better than the one present in the Blackmagic app?

    Does the Kino app use hardware volume button to stop/start video recording? (If yes, then it will work with the physical record button on the DJI and other gimbals, even without any other gimbal integration.)

    • @beardfm

      Forcing folks to use the on/screen record button is a real dealbreaker… I hope they understand that.

    • @RobSpiv
      @RobSpiv 5 месяцев назад

      It is a bad oversight - would allow any Bluetooth shutter control solution to work.
      Some other 3rd party camera apps support this (Black Magic) while others annoyingly don’t

  • @MaximoJoshua

    you can already burn in or preview LUT's in BM Camera. I have like 45 LUT's in there. I really hope they add some sort of remote monitoring/control to this app, because that would be a super useful feature. Would be cool if you could show a feature breakdown and comparison between this and BMC.

    • @beardfm
      @beardfm  5 месяцев назад +4

      BMC App is super powerful, but I find it’s a little complicated for *my* needs. I know they have some great features planned for Kino so will do a comparison soon!

    • @MaximoJoshua
      @MaximoJoshua 5 месяцев назад

      @@beardfm awesome, although i have never found it complicated, just open the app and click record (you can, of course, dial in other settings if you need to) but one i have set my settings, i just leave them.
      I do like the way they highlight the preview LUT's, and make it easy to swap between them, I hope they bring something like that to the BMC app. Right now you have to dive into the menu, change the selected LUT and go back to the camera...so like two taps, if i could just swipe through my list of LUT's right from the camera screen that would be so much more user friendly.
      That being said, why would i pay for a camera app when BMC is free? I have to imagine they have some super dope features on the way, or it makes no sense...Apple also is releasing their Final Cut Camera or whatever, and Filmic Pro has basically disappeared, so weird space to get into.

      @@MaximoJoshua pay for apps because there are people working on them. Real people who have lives and expenses, just like you have a life and expenses. If you can’t afford it, don’t buy it. But Kino is made by literally three people, I think that’s the size of the development team. Three people. They are independent developers. They make beautiful looking apps. black magic is a corporation, they make a lot of money off of other corporations who use their enterprise features. That’s the only reason the app is free for all of us. But it’s not like they actually care about the users using their apps for free.

      Blackmagic and Moment Pro Camera also allow you to burn in LUTs with ProRes. Kino doesn't and is super laggy. It also skips frames constantly...

    Can the app slowly zoom in or out while shooting? Or is it more like black magic/stock camera app where it goes straight to the selected zoom modes. Because when I’m using Filmic Legacy I can slowly zoom in or out, also Cimena P3 does this. And now I’m trying to make my choose between Cinema P3 or Kino.
    Also I’m curious if Kino is planning or already supporting the buttons from any Gimbal. Like the one I have, the zhiyun smooth 4.

    I really hope we get phones from Apple that can get more background blur, and better cut out. I know there’s cinematic mode, but even when you change the F stop to being lower so it’s like more of a subtle blur, there are still weird artifacts around the edges of my head and hair. I want to film with my iPhone because it’s simpler, but I also want Bokeh 😅

    Regarding the Orion app - is an Anker hub necessary between the capture card and the HDMI cable straight out of an iphone? I tried this with my cheapo capture card (which may not work...) and indeed I couldn't get a signal detected on the Orion app... Thanks!
