MASSIVE Pool Construction Timelapse

  • One of the largest pools that can be constructed on a city residential lot, it is 22 feet (6.7m) by 50 feet (15.2m), 4 foot (1.2m) shallow end and 9 foot (2.7m) deep end. Holds 200,000 liters (52834 gallons) of water. Over 3800 sq ft of concrete was poured for the pool decking and basketball court. Construction started April 2018, completed in June 2018.
    A GoPro Hero 4 Silver was mounted the exterior of the house taking a photo every 60 seconds for 10-12 hours everyday, the project took over 2 months (26 working days).
    Located in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada
    The pool was constructed by The Montgomery Pool Company www.montpoolco...
    Because of how vinyl pools are built, they deal very well with various soil conditions over virtually any type of climate. This makes them ideal for our very hot summers (35C) and quite cold (-40C) winters.
    Inground pools come in three main types; Concrete, vinyl and fiberglass. Choosing between them becomes a question of picking the best construction method for your money and environment.
    The concrete pool, known as a gunite or shotcrete (depending on the mixing) pool, is a very popular type of construction method in many parts of the United States that have moderate climates in the winter. They allow for virtually any design you can think of and are extremely durable. Depending on the exact type of surface finish, these types of pools do need to be re-surfaced every five to ten years.
    The disadvantage for this type of pool in the is cost. Because of our rather harsh winter climate, the gunite concrete pool must be built to withstand some pretty extreme ground frost. The extra material and labour required to build a gunite pool to these standards makes them roughly two to three times the price of either a vinyl or fibreglass type pool.
    Fibreglass pools are manufactured in a factory and leave that factory fully ready to be put in the ground as a single large pool shell. They have a very durable surface that doesn’t need much maintenance and can be repaired in the event of a crack or puncture.
    First is the fairly limited size and design choice. Because these pools must be shipped to the installation site, they must fit on a transport truck. This limits the size and shape to what you can fit on the truck bed.
    The second disadvantage of the fibreglass swimming pools is how it reacts in very wet soils. Because the fibreglass pool is a single large shell, it can be thought as a large boat hull. If the level of ground water rises sufficiently, it can actually push the fibreglass pool up. The same is true in cold climates where ground movement due to frost can be a concern.
    The vinyl inground pool can be broken down into two types, a steel frame or a polymer frame. Both systems use the same type of construction and offer the same finish product. Vinyl pools are by far the most popular type of inground swimming pool in the prairie provinces, as well in most of Canada, the Eastern United States and that trend is spreading to the Southern United States.
    Much like the concrete pools, vinyl pools have virtually unlimited possibilities for size and design. With the addition of built in steps, benches and sunledges, any design feature found in a fibreglass pool can easily be incorporated into a vinyl pool. Long gone are the days of only having two or three choices in possible shapes.
    The downside of the vinyl pool is the vinyl liner that holds the water. It can be punctured or cut leading to a water leak far more easily than concrete or fibreglass. Luckily they can be repaired fairly easily and permanently by welding a patch. The liner will also need to be changed about every fifteen years from normal wear and tear. This can be done by a professional crew in less than a day.
    So when we look at the three types of pool construction and compare price, design freedom, suitability to local conditions and durability, the vinyl over steel or polymere type tends to come out ahead in Canada and the Eastern USA.

    I have been building a pool in my yard for 2 years! It is 20mx8m, it was dug without machinery. So far, my filtration system is in place, my deck has been built out of old slate and the tub of the pool has been concreted into its final shape and sealed and it does not leak., I even have a hot tub on the side, which again was free.
    All the materials cost me nothing this far as I have reclaimed them from old pools that were being demolished, even the concrete was free, as a concrete company was giving me the material from any loads that were rejected from building sites, this is the main reason why it took so long to get this far.
    I have resigned myself to having to buy tiles new so that the pool is ready for next spring, but will have a good sized pool, with a used ground level hot tub for under $500 and a whole load of labour.

    The way they build the pool is wrong. They should have allowed the bricks to be latex with centrifugal forces and filled the pool with Mercury first then water. Many people who know how to build pools would agree with me. The pool should also be reinforced with leather straps strapped next to the concrete floors. This will make the pool more sturdy and resistant towards natural disasters.
    I know this is all wrong as I am a certified internet expert and everything that I just said was all made up.

    • @7_muhammadmuharromisusmaya196
      @7_muhammadmuharromisusmaya196 5 лет назад

      It's wrong actually, placing Mercury on a pool is really bad idea, UNLESS you cleared up the toxic part of it, Creating brick from concrete is much much simpler, since you only need a little time to dry it out or you need simply 60 celcius to make it faster to dry, since it's the safe amount of heat, BUT converting concrete to solid concrete is much easier, all you need to do is place a block of them and place them on water, trust me, i already tried this on monecraft

    I had it emptied for maintenance and my dog fell in, she got stuck down the deep end and couldn’t get up the slope. I climbed in to help her out. The slope was just slimy enough that I couldn’t get out either. It was frikkin hilarious! The kids ended up tying a rope off for me so i could mountain climb up to get out. 8 years later and its still a joke around the dining table.

      No, you were right on the first idea. First it is not the largest pool that can be constructed, a friend of mine did a 78 x 46 feet one without any problem. Second they build cheapest, no concrete body, no fiberglass, only PVC liner. The pool is level to floor, everything will fall into it, from leafes to small childs. The first flooding of the river nearby will wash all out. The reinforced concrete around the pool will become crackled, it's too long and too shim. The steel walls will rust. The solar cover is broken by the side ladder, they should habe build a niche, and will obviously not do automatically. Most technical items are buried below the liner or concrete, have fun if it fails. It's the pool that one builds if it is his first one. But hey, it's his money, he can do whatever he wants.

      flexiblebird You are completely correct. I don’t understand why so many bad decisions were taken in consideration for this. From the “damn, I need to shred all the concrete to replace some stuff” to just a PVC liner. They probably never had to fix anything. I wonder what they will do when the mud floor starts to change shape underneath the PVC liner.

    I build pools for a living and it was awesome to watch it from this perspective because in the middle of summer it sucks building these the steel panels act like a microwave and since your below the ground you hardly get a breeze and it’s like cooking in a oven you pour sweat and when it comes to trawling in the floor and dropping the liner you have to be so careful because any imperfections in the floor will show thru the liner but I I love dropping the liner putting the liner vacuum on it and cutting in the returns and skimmer because that means your just about done but I have to ask why pump water in and stop then start then stop ? Once the liner is in place and we have it vacuumed to the wall we start filling and then once we get it filled to a certain depth we pull the vac and put the liner in the track and continue filling I was just curious as to why the start and stop start and stop

    • @DarvikMedia
      @DarvikMedia  5 лет назад +43

      The water came from a truck, actually 5-6 truck loads of water. So there was some down time in between trips. That’s what causes the start and stop of the water.

    • @iceverything4667
      @iceverything4667 5 лет назад

      @*Drifty * here in California we have to bring a similar machine to the back yard , sometimes building a swimming pool there's option to have an entrance either right or left of the house and between property lines we run across a fence. It can be very narrow
      Most of the time we have a natural gas meter that's in our path , it's just a foot or less away from the house and can be extremely dangerous if the driver runs into it.
