@@williamdixon-gk2sk yeah seriously I love that groups sound the sax her voice the whole package is badass and sounds terrific. Identity is one of my favorite songs of all time.
@westonlong I mean, I'm not gonna front, I only got into them like 20 years ago. It seems like any punk would at least have stumbled on their 1st single at some point.
Fire vid. I've been listening to BTMI since like 2006. Jeff had so many weird instruments and arrangements going on even back before then on those albums
Good video! one I will say is that The Story so Far are also the exception when it comes to the pop punk /HxC crossover. They have a lot of fans from the Hxc scene and are probably the first 2010s pop punk band to be accepted by that scene. What You Don't See especially is so hardcore laced. They are pop punk band made by hardcore kids.
Great video dude, I think you really hit the nail on the head about the stigma. It’s such a shame that a few rotten apples have spoiled the reputation of the genre, because there is so much great modern pop punk coming out just now
Surprised there’s no mention of The Wonder Years. I’m not really a Pop Punk guy, but I do really dig them as they seem a little more mature than your typical Pop Punk bands.
I also think bands like The Menzingers and The Gaslight Anthem have transitioned past the pop punk label into basically being modern dad rock. The unflinching sincerity is refreshing in an era where everyone seems like they're in a race to be the most ironic.
There's plenty of hate in the hardcore scene for bands like No Pressure, Koyo, and Militarie Gun lol. I've heard all of them called pop-punk as a derogatory term. I'm a fan of all the pop-punk/hardcore crossover personally.
This time i agree with you dude. Pop punk don t make any sense unless being fake punk. Its a mix of alt rock and commercial rock with some dudes dressing and faking they are punks.
I miss when pop punk was bands that ripped off Screeching Weasel and Descendents. Also O, Bondage Up Yours is an X-Ray Spex cover, I just need to know that you know that.
Pop punk is merely a label. No one called Dickies or Buzzcocks pop punk. Just punk. They were very catchy. Dickies were doing punk covers of mainstream songs way before Me First and the Gimme Gimmes. Both are good but just saying it’s punk. Punk is also usually followed by rock and like Billy Joel said about the new sound “ it’s still rock n roll to me “
For fans of Jeff that like specially the personal but also political lyrics check out Brave Faces Everyone by Spanish Love Songs one of the best pop-punk albums ever imo and came out fairly recently!
Ugh. You know you're old when you haven't even heard of half the bands talked about in this video. I grew up on the old Lookout records catalog. When pop-punk wasn't a bad word, and it hadn't yet turned into the lame, smoothed-out emo-ish pop rock it became in the late 90's and into the 00's. Dillinger Four will always be one of my faves.
Great video Dan!!! I still prefer Easycore(Pop Punk with steroids) like Four Year Strong, Chunk! No Captain Chunk, Belmont and Action/Adventure! Also, your videos increased alot in quality, keep going man! Cheers from Brazil!
Hey Dan, what do you think of The Vindictives. I feel like they were one of the most interesting and unique bands to come out of Chicago in that time period. I don't ever see them get much love, though.
thanx for the s/o 💕
Ike World 4 life!
Oh bondage up yours is a X Ray Specs cover
How is it that way fewer people know X Ray Spex than i feel is even possible?

we'll need more than a bandaid for this one.
we love you evil idubbbz, and we love pop punk!
Mgk is 100% cringe
Me shaking my fist at pop punk while clenching my Screeching Weasel, Sloppy Seconds, Descendants, Buzzcocks, and Queers albums 😂
This.
The alliterative 'pop punk penman' rolling out of your mouth so readily, the salient points, and the sick edits? Here for it, Frampt0n!

That's how i survived in a Ska band for 5 years, we were all kids that were going to East Bay hardcore shows and blended into that scene.
I recognized Programme as soon as i saw it ❤️
This video is nothing like Finn McKinty's. This is a fresh take on punk I have never heard before.
so Parker Cannon is some kind of weird alternate Chad Gilbert, then?
(i know he doesn't sing in New Found Glory 😂)
YES great video
I love JER! Saw them in December

Hell yeah Frampton, let em have it! literally blows my mind that adult humans listen to MGK
I love Jeff so much. The artist I’ve seen the most!

Justice is so sick
From Trevor Blendour- Emo is Not PopPunk
31:35 so glad I got to see him. He’s so amazing live
Looks like I’m gonna have to check out some new bands. Especially Jeff Rosenstock.
Great content!

I was omw. Go Team Mod!
I just came to comment this.

Hey ho let’s go
Love the Jeff Rosenstock
I rated 'Hellmode' as one of the albums of last year, certainly.
Great video Dan!!! I still prefer Easycore(Pop Punk with steroids) like Four Year Strong, Chunk! No Captain Chunk, Belmont and Action/Adventure! Also, your videos increased alot in quality, keep going man! Cheers from Brazil!

Seriously underrated band, but it seems a lot of people outside of the Chicago area don't know them well at all. Damn shame.
End gang 🥞🥞🥞🥞
Sit down. You're making me dizzy.
What crimes were these bands upta?
Crimes against minor scales.
🥞🥞🥞🥞
Pop punk = cool haters = fool x tool.
goodd vid
I dont think whining about some girl that broke up with you in high school is that bad, but whining that people dont like pop punk is pretty terrible
I simply adore anyone 30+ talking about a 15 yo HS ex gf at length, I bet you're at hit at parties! 😅
Yeah you are totally right, most of people are stupid and not punk.
