Not only are you making beautiful art work, this is an interesting anti anxiety relief. Keep up the amazing work!
Thank you Par!!
Yuval
Thank you very much. I often wondered how you made such intricate. for lack of a better word, stems or arms for the pipe. I always thought it was one piece of wood. This really looks wonderful and I really do appreciate this. Thank you.🌹😇🌹😇💝🤣🌹
this is a lovely piece of woodcraft, thank you for sharing it
--Rick
Thank you so much rickoona! :)
Yuval.
That's very cool! Been looking for a technique for making a bent stem. Thanks much for sharing! Great job!
Take care, Dave
Thank you David! You'll see, once you make one pipe, you'll be making them in batches :)
Yuval.
I've been having some pipe dreams of my own lately. well done Yuval!
Thank you man!! Turning these is a lot of fun, good tool practice, plus some woodworking and carving! An all around fun project.
Yuval.
Smoking pipes is getting rare. 30 years ago, lots of people did it, i remember my grandfather with a pipe. Nowadays, its really rare with only a few old people still smoking pipe.
Im not a fan of smoking at all, but a pipe has a lot more style than anything else. Your pipe is so nice that i can imagine how proud the owner would show it of. Very nice job.
It reminds me a bit of the clay pipes that historically were produced in the town i was born, Gouda. Long stemmed clay pipes. I always liked that design.
Thank you Willem!! I know those pipes, I've seen a whole documentary about how they are made, interesting history as well! I also don't smoke a pipe, but I sure do love making them! I'll be showing a different type of pipe (different stem shape, different bowl shape, differen smoke channel design) soon enough.
Yuval.
I love the shot of looking down the pipe from the mouth piece at eye level, being able to see into your bowl is important and for me makes a good pipe. Very nice work.
Thank you Cody! I showed that angle you people will know you can adjust the stem inside the pipe to the right direction.
Yuval.
Oh man. I loved this one. Turned out beautifully.
Thank you guys!! Feel free to use it on your site, as alway!
Yuval.
Yuval Lahav Woodturning Cool. Thanks, Yuval.
Great project Yuval, and it turned very nice. I really like the way you made the stem too.
Thank you Carl! All credit to the stem part (and the whole shabbang) should go to Stephen Ogle, whom I learned this from.
Yuval.
You got the whitest white name of all time. I've seen ur videos tho. U got some good shit. I've always wanted to get into this shit.
Great work! I will take your information on board.
Thank you kindly.
You're most welcome! :)
Yuval
I don't smoke nor plan to. But I love pipes for some reason.
I don't smoke a pipe as well, yet I love making them. People seem to love them as well.
Yuval.
Mostly womans-they don`t smoke a pipes, but they like a smell of ;-) I smoke a pipe more otr less from 25 years.I want to do my firsth one myself.Thank You Yuval 4 Your Inspiration ! ,-)
it's calling to you, it's only a matter of time. Get some black cherry tobacco and relax, remember not to inhale, in time move to a pipe tobacco with latakia in it and you'll never look back.
don't say you don't smoke just say that you lover pipes because that is the only part that matters
Pipe smoking is totally different from anything else, tobacco can smell nicer, cleaner - for many its an occasional treat not an addiction (at least i speak for me on that). When I moved to France - -did not bring my Peterson pipe - partly as I value it i dont want it broken in travel - thats how un-addicted I am, bought a new one locally now. It can be mellow - chill time, its is great for the rare thing of being in nature and tuning out from the modern world. Pipe smoking is not an addiction to me. Its very much better. Also many health benefits!! Waits for Censor! But sorry there is - The government cancer agenda against tobacco but - look at all the modern killer they promote - its just a form of mind control. We all die in the end. Be informed about RISK.
Beautiful video, Yuval.
The pipe looks great. Have fun while smoking the whistle
Thank you Gunter!! :)
Yuval.
That was amazing and beautiful.
Thank you Lexi! Check out my video #56, I have a feeling you will enjoy it as well :)
Yuval.
Great video Yuval, and a very impressive and effective technique for the stem, well impressed mate.
Brilliant project.
Take care
Mike
Thank you Mike!! Soon I'll publish a new videos with some variations on the subject, the reaction to this video calls for it :)
Yuval.
That is absolutely gorgeous!
Thank you so much Brandy!! :)
Yuval
I just watched this video after Hamm. I will watch more today because it is very relaxing for me to sit back and wat h you work. You make it look so easy, but I know much time has been spent in honing your craft.
Thank you Karen!! I think you will enjoy very much this video:
ruclips.net/video/XS3XbUYNpPg/видео.html
But you should get in the mood before hand, trust me ;)
Yuval.
Hi,clever method of forming the tube, and as you show the bowl gouge is a useful tool, thx for the info and stay safe.
Thank you! My bowl gouge is by far my go to tool :)
Yuval.
Fantastic Job with this piece. They look like a lot of fun to make.
Thank you! They sure are, and I'll be making a couple more soon, with different styles and tools of course.
Yuval.
That is one beautiful pipe! Amazing!
Thank you Deoclecio!! :)
Yuval.
Stunning!
Thanks John!
Yuval
Looks great
Thank you Kaged :)!
Yuval.
What a great project Yuval, so many wood working skills to achieve the final piece & a pleasure to watch you at work. As a pipe smoker I have to say yours would stay on the rack - it's too beautiful to light !!
Regards ........ Geof (UK)
Thank you Geof!! As an amature pipe maker I would tell you that my pipes are for smoking, not just for displaying!! :) I will make a follow up video to this one with alternative methods for the pipe bowl shape, turning method, boring method, stem connecting method, stem shape and might even use a completely different wood (but I'm not sure, Olive is so nice and people come to expect it from me...) and more, hope you will find the follow up as just as interesting.
Yuval.
Hi Yuval,
Excellent job!
All the best
Rami
Thank you Rami!! :)
Yuval.
This is one really awesome pipe! Good job!
Thank you Andu!! :)
Yuval.
beautiful work, nice songs
Thank you Geekyman!
Yuval.
Thanks for the tutorial. Much goes into this.
Nice work.
Thanks mate! Much indeed.
Yuval
A beautiful piece that rivals most of the glass in my collection, had not thought of making a wood pipe, I just might now lol.
Thank you Jordan! Making a wooden pipe to match your glass pipes will be quite easy, I am planing on making a couple more pipes soon, one of those will be more of the glass pipes style.
Yuval.
Hey Yuval !! Beautiful job done on this stunning pipe.... Great techniques, and design.... really enjoyed this one buddy, thanks for sharing!! Regards, Steve
Thank you buddy!! I'll be making a follow up as soon as I could squeeze some shop time where I'll make a different style of everything, bowl, stem, boring, shaping, texturing and I might even venture a different wood if I'll find a large enough piece of Walnut in my scraps pile, just to show the variations you can have with a fun project like this.
Yuval.
A few years ago I wanted to make a pipe but the videos I found really made it look like something I couldn't do. Thanks for showing me it is in my skill set after all. Great work and video.
Thank you Stephen! I also thought a pipe was out of my skill set level, until I made the first one ;)
Yuval.
Which woods are best for the bowl?
Well, the best of the best would be Briar root, which is imported from Italy. Alternative woods are Olive, Cherry, Mulberry, Walnut (which is kind of controversial, since some species are poisonous), Apple, Oak and more.
Thanks.
Yuval another amazing project. Very nice pipe.
Thank you Pierre!! :) I'll might do a follow up with a different type of pipe, so to show how it's done.
Yuval.
Great work.A real piece of art.
Thanks Legs!
Yuval
Awesome job.
Thank you Dale!
Yuval.
Awesome that's one great looking pipe!
Thanks Ollie!
Yuval
I love this job
Thank you Luky!
Pretty impressive pipe Yuval. Great idea for making the stem.
Take care my friend
Mark
Thank you Mark!!
Yuval.
Also, where is your signature "do a kindness"??! :)
Very good work Yuval.
Thank you Fernando!! :)
Yuval.
Great work! Very interesting to watch and try by myself
Thank you Elias, and good luck! :)
Yuval.
Great work, Yuval! The technique for the stem is ingenious!! Ciao.Mauro
Thank you Mauro!!
Yuval.
Thoroughly enjoyed watching this, I don't smoke but now I really want a pipe.
Thank you Augustus (My son's second name is Giulius, like Augustus father, in the Italian spelling, of course)!
You don't need to smoke to be the proud owner of an hand made pipe, it's a good conversation starter ;)
Yuval.
great pipe ,and great video ,take care garry
Thank you Garry!! (You can smoke some hemp toilet paper in this one, THC present or not!).
Yuval.
more enjoyable with the thc to be fair
Amazing video! Very instructive and great music.
Thank you Ola! Happy you found it instructive! :)
Yuval.
I love it. Well done man.
Thank you Tyler!!
Yuval.
That looks great fun to watch
Thank you Stewart!! I would recommend this as a quick and fun (and practical) project for any aspiring woodturner/woodworker.
Yuval.
At first I was thinking you were going to steam bend the stem, but I like your way much better. Very very cool.
I've also steam bend a stem from my scorpion pipe (well, boiled the wood for some extreme bending and glued it up). I've been thinking about steam bending some stock to see how it holds up.
Yuval
I’ve just been going thru some old saved videos and came across a couple of your pipe vids. I’ve been wanting to make a wizard pipe for some time now. I’m going to give it a shot. I need to refocus on wood working. Too much crap going on right now if you catch my drift.
Cheers
I do catch your drift, we're all at the same spot... Hope you do find the time to make a pipe, and let me know how it went!!
Yuval
Wonderful work!
Thank you Seppo!
Yuval
Almost makes me want to take a up a pipe, neat project Yuval!
Thank you Steve! These are fun to turn and make, even if you don't smoke ;)
Yuval.
love the soundtrack
Thanks! You can find the songs and where do get them from for free in the video description, like always.
Yuval.
yep! you were right! by watching this video I now know how to make that long stem :D
Indeed a nice little project as you've said! well done as always mate :D
Told you so man!! Wait and all will be revealed!! :) So now you know, go make one!
Yuval.
Cool project, Yuval. I never even thought about making a pipe... A tip, which you are of course free to disregard :-) Use a wooden handscrew clamp (two wood jaws, two screws in opposite directions running through threaded pivots in the jaws; the jaws can be tightened non-parallel) to hold stuff on the drill press and bandsaw. I've accumulated a bunch over the years, and modified them by drilling holes through the centerline so that each jaw has a half-circle cutout or by making "V" notches in the jaws at right angles to or along the length. I can firmly clamp about anything with them. Clyde
Thank you Clyde, I've been meaning to make some of those clamps for a while now, I'll download some plans and make some, hopefully by the next time I have a project that needs drilling.
Yuval.
Amazing and unique, the way you made the stem is genius, i'love to smoke out of that pipe. Keep up the good work :D
Thank you! Catch some of my other pipe videos, each has something a little different in it :)
Yuval.
Cool project Yuval . I like the way you made the stem , the wire was a good idea .I'm not going to ask what you're planning on smoking in it lol. Take care.
Thank you Glen! Some people do it without the wire in the glue up and then try to push the wire in to clean up the glue, which sometimes is impossible, this way, you know your hole will be clean all the way through. Don't ask don't tell ;)
Yuval.
halfing pipeweed as one should always to brake in new pipes lol
That was Amazing and Wonderful pipe 😍😍 I really like the shape of the steam😍🔥🔥
Thanks!
Yuval
Brilliant project Yuval, very clever stem construction. Really well filmed too. I love the shape of the pipe, maybe you were born in the wrong century ! Take care my friend. Jim
Thank you Jim!! I say that of myself too often... :)
Yuval.
Being a non-smoker, this is something I've never considered but I like your videos so watched it anyway. Now I want to make one, the process for the stem is brilliant. Your video production continues to improve and enjoyed the music (although I do miss your narratives). Take good care. Cheers, Gord
Thank you Gord!! :) I don't normally smoke a pipe as well, but I love making them, they are as beautiful as they are practical (in my eyes). I am planning a follow up to this video where I will show a similar pipe yet made with different methods for the turning, boring, stem shape and connection type, might even use a different wood, but don't count on it :) I promise that I will do some talking in the follow up, unlike in this video :)
Yuval.
Looking forward to the next episode! Have added this to my todo list. Take good care and keep them coming. Cheers, Gord
wonderfull pipe, Yuval, ingénious, good idéa for making the stern ! Congratulation ! Jean-Luc
Thank you very much Jean-luc le fevre!! :)
Yuval.
Lovely
Nice work!
Thanks!
Yuval
AWESOME 👏🏻
Thank you Jacob!
Yuval
That stem is really fine , the wire inside is just a smart idea !
Thank you Youenn!! It's not the only way, but it's a good way non the least.
Yuval
awesome pipe
Thanks man!
Yuval.
this is awesome, I am going to have to try this one out. I have about 1000 pounds of olive in the back yard drying out, I H many pieces well enough to do some of this on.
Thank you Wolvsbain! Don't say you have so much Olive, someone reading this comment might hit you up for some, people are quite keen on getting some Olive where it's scarce or not to be found at all. I'm sure you'll enjoy creating those pipes, it's always a nice project to take your mind off things :)
Yuval.
Its not too scarce in Arizona, every developmet uses it for a shade tree, so they are everywhere, same with red gum eucylptus.
I have people begging me to send them some to the US, you should publish your wealth, make some business ;)
Yuval.
Very cool project. Liked the bending part for the stem!
Thank you man! You should try it, it's a fun bit of woodworking :)
Yuval.
I plan on giving it a try. Wish I had easy access to some nice olive wood bigger than a pen blank. Sadly, it is difficult to find at a reasonable price here in southern California.
Well, there are many alternative woods for pipes, while the "best" wood for the job is Briar root (which is expensive since it's rare and comes mostly from the south of Italy, a small single piece could run you up 20-100 dollars), while alternative woods are many, among them are Cherry, Olive and Walnut. Between you and me, the Olive looks the best, but the Walnut taste the best when you smoke it (and the first couple of smokes will always have wood taste, until the inside of the bowl is well charred, while professional pipes come pre charred).
Thanks for the info. Had no idea. Will have to give the Walnut a try: got plenty of that. The oak you used for the stem, did you just get some veneers? How did you get them so thin?
I had a plank of Oak, about 5 cm tall (2 inches) and 20 cm wide (some more inches) and I cut a piece of it 30 cm long (about 12 inches) and I started slicing it in 2 mm wide slices on my table saw using my sled, risking my life and fingers in the process... if I had a bandsaw it would have been much simpler. If you can get a thin (but not too thin) veneer slices, use those, why not!
Very nice!
Thank you Bo!!
Yuval.
true talent
Thank you Nick!
Yuval
Skvělá práce, moc hezký.
Thank you Brykl1!

Classic Yuval.
Thank you Marc ;)
Yuval.
Oh, i really hope you make more pipes on video. With your new dremmel you can do some art carving on the pipes. Great stuff.
I will be posting some new videos soon Kitty, thanks for you comment!
Yuval
Really enjoy the music!
*only at the beginning 😉
Yeah, people have been more critical about the music than anything else, I guess people didn't hear about the mute button ;)
Yuval.
This is too beautiful!
If only I too had a talent.....
You can always pick up the hobby, it's not really that hard to learn. Maybe you have a turning club where you live, they will be glad to help you get started.
Yuval
COOL SO GOOD
Thank you!
Yuval
VERY NICE WORK mate!
Thanks Saar!
Yuval
Awesome Video! I woud like to know if the is another method to shape a long hollow piece of wood, for instance if the used piece is not that flexible.
Thank you! There are a few more methods for making the stem, like a hollow branch and then steam bend it to shape, but I don't know which plants have those hollow branches, I bet a google search will help you find anything local that might fit the job.
I also know of people who hand carve their stems in two halves and glue them together after they carved out the track in the stem...
Yuval.
This is a beautiful pipe. Very nicely made.
I am sure it must be a pleasure to smoke it with a good tobacco.
Thank you Johan! I did smoke it a little, using simple tobacco, and it was very pleasurable. I should be getting a decent pipe tobacco and have a real go at it. People who smoked pipes I've made told me they were just perfect for them :)
Yuval.
fun to watch...thanks.
Thank you man!!
Yuval.
MAN .. I am so satisfied!
Glad I could get you there Lastmanxa!! :)
Yuval.
love how it looks like a liberty cap
A little, it does, doesn't it :)
Yuval
Bravissimo... Complimenti!
Grazie Christian!!
Yuval
Moc pěkný
Thank you Brykl1!
Yuval
When the stem heats up and the glue vapours from the heat. Perhaps a more old fashioned layer of horse hide glue. Or tie stainless steel wires to a trees branches. The result, custom non split pipe stems. My grandfather used to make and carve his own pipes.
That is a great idea, I will try to use it for the next pipe!
Yuval
Very nice video thanks
Glad you liked it Rob!
Yuval
Truly a NICE Gandalf Pipe!
Thank you Tim!
Yuval
art work that's practical also very beautiful work
Thank you Sam!
Yuval.
Such peaceful music its a nice change from the generic electronic and dubstep music that are overly used
Thank you Kwang! Some people don't like my choices of music, since I like to mix it up every few videos, try some new sounds, do I'm glad you liked this one :)
Yuval
Beatiful
Thank you!
Yuval
Very cool 😍
Thank you Gunther!
Yuval
Very interesting project, I'm not a smoker but there is something about an old man with a pipe that congers up images of my grandad. Very nicely done Yuval
Take care
Rob 🇨🇦
Yes that is a maple leaf on our flag 😉
Thank you Rob!! I'm not a pipe toting guy as well, but I do love turning these, you have turning, gluing, bending, woodworking, carving, it's an all around good exercise!! :)
Yuval.
P.S.
Loved the maple leaf ;)
Thank you Yuval for lovely project even if it is never lit.
Thank you Alan! If someone who wants it for use will want it, it will be lit, and will work just fine, my pipes never fail! :)
Yuval.
Hi Yuval! Excellent video my friend! I loved the whole process, the pipe bowl in olive is a beauty and it was really interesting how you dealt with the stem! I am not a smoker, but if I were, I would love to smoke in a pipe just like that! I am sorry to ask, but I am completely ignorant in this subject. Does the pipe bowl need a special treatment or it just gets burned in the inside when smoking? I bet the stem gave you its good deal of work with the shaping and sanding but the piece is a work of art! My congratulations! Cheers! Daniel
Thank you Daniel!! I don't normally smoke a pipe, but these are so fun to make :)
To answer your questions, professionally made pipes get scorched before they leave the artisan, so they are smoking ready, while this pipe can be smoked right up, but until there will be a layer of char on the bowl walls the smoke will taste a little woody (which some people actually like). Some people use watered down honey soaked on the inner walls of the pipe for the first few smoking, as the thin honey will penetrate the wood and then caramelize inside it as it burns, which will give the wood resistance and better taste. The stem took me about 25 minutes to shape using the dremel, which is a grand improvement on the 2 hours it normally takes me when I use rasps.
Yuval.
Love it, cunning way to make the stem too. Am still waiting for the comedy smoke ring finale.... :-)
Thank you Dave! Couldn't light it on camera, you know how many people will write to me if I will? Probably more then if I would have made a knife and stabbed someone with it to show how it works... :)
Yuval.
Absolutely beautiful. Very inspiring. Just curious if you have a template for the stem rig that you bend it in?
Hi David! Can't say that I do, I made all of these templates by eye...
Yuval
Cool! I think I might try and make a Sherlock Holmes one
Thank you Mitch! You should definitely do that! :)
Yuval.
Excellent instructions and video! I work with Myrtle Wood burls ,Maple burls and make slab clocks, mirrors, salt and pepper shakers, coffee tables. and other items. Whats a good sweet smoking and smelling tobacco?
Thank you Allan! I'm sorry, as I don't smoke a pipe myself, I couldn't recommend any pipe tobacco for you...
Yuval.
i would recommend hobbits weed if you can get your hands on it. Autumn evening by c and d is very good as well as Cult blood red moon. Those are all my favorite aromatic tobaccos
Great video... but yeah, the music was getting to me pretty quick. Thanks for the demo!
Thanks man!
Sorry about the music, I'm trying to mix it up a little :)
Yuval.
Gran y hermoso trabajo Yuval. Recién suscrito; en la búsqueda del placer de la artesanía. Ahora descubriendo la construcción de pipas de coronitas de maíz.

Music was fantastic. Too each is own, not in high school anymore.
Ehehe, yeah, I seem to be getting a lot of heat for my music choices... I guess people didn't find the mute button yet... :)
Yuval
That's a good idea with laminating the stem. It looked like one piece after sanding.
Thank you Phil! It works really well, especially if you keep the grain alignment, and also have a tight glue up. I like to sand the stem after I oil it so the oil and dust mix and fill in the pores and any small spaces between the laminate layers.
Yuval.
Yuval Lahav Woodturning clever. I just made my first long stem pipe. The pores on the stem after sanding are visible. Will definitely try the oil before sanding trick. Thank you for leaving a great tip in the comments.
