- Exploring the Ma’an Village in Sanjiang. One of Chengyang’s eight villages which hold the majority of the Dong Minority in China. We walk around, have some interesting conversation, and learn about this fascinating culture.
Discover Guangxi: / discoverguangxi sponsored the transportation and food costs for this trip to Guangxi. That being said, at no time did they have editorial say, guidance or control in any way of the videos I shot during the tour. The content on this channel from this trip is my own, from my perspective and entirely edited by me.

Man I miss the countryside of China so much! Great video bud!
Thanks boss!
Wellcome come back
I like this traditional village with its traditional ways of weaving and colouring cloths.
I think more and more people come to realize how great that lifestyle was and still is.. Today we talk about durability, continuity, green and stuff while those humble people have been doing just that through centuries.. They should be the strongest
and most powerful inspiration for those young people who just complain about the destruction of the environment, the air etc.. Here is a wonderful example of what to do and how to live close to nature and durably... Since hundreds of years... Think about this. The future is there, in those people's lifestyle..
I clicked on this video because of the beautiful girl on the thumbnail picture.
I love visiting rural villages especially the minorities village.
Who is the guide-translator? I can't find her name in the video info, correct me if I am wrong, but we all should credit the locals. She seems really nice and I wish we had listened to her more. She seems to have interesting info to talk about.
I loved the town, the architecture, traditional costume making and the art class was just wonderful. Chinese are a humble and wise society, let's hope they can build the country they want.
Thanks for sharing this video with us. The world shouldn't focus only on the negative opinion about China, we should learn from them and build a future together. Preserve our culture's good things and exchange with others. I wish the world becomes a place where we can all coexist.
Social media, and expat influencers are key.
Also added translations in other languages besides English and Chinese (both simplified and traditional)
You're getting closer to the 100k mark buddy! well deserved after all these years going at it!
You can make 100k soon if you could speak " CHINA " correctly and respectfully, " Chinor" is a bit of uncomfortable for my peers...Calling one's name with weird pronunciation is considered as a discrimination or insult by many Chinese...
One my favorite videos to watch in YT currently since air travel is restricted and a hassle.
At 18:43, the right column of words on the Bell are "Dao Guang 14th Year ...."
That is the 14th year of the reign of emperior Dao Guang.
The first year under Dao Guang is 1821. So the 14th year is the year 1834 A.D.
Some of the other words are names.
So the bell is likely casted in 1834.
v good explanation!
To be hornist (I mean honest), the title and the front cover picture attracted me in, but I watched entire video, could not stop it.
I really enjoy this beautiful video. Interesting, fun, beautiful and informative.
Good job, Matt.
To be hornist? Is that a Freudian slip of "horny" and "honest"?
Lol. I wonder same thing.
lol hornist...
@@Shenzhou. Slipped out. LOL
Beautiful village and great drone shots.
Those high school students are very talent.
Wow, the buildings and structures in this village looked very ancient. Beautiful landscapes and excellent photography.
Sooooo B E A U T I F U L!!!! Boy, am I jealous of you two and your wonderful journey to this part of enchanted China!
As always, loved your videos, especially the drone views.
GuangXi is really clean and beautiful
If you'rent bot plz reply
Beautiful landscape with amazing architecture , creative sculptures and artwork. Every details in the construction of the boardwalk are so neat and clean. Thanks for the video.
Thanks Matt, definitely this village is in my bucket list 😍
That is an interesting tuor in an old, beautiful village. Many years ago, I travelled in a trasin crossing Guangxi province a couple of times. But, I have never had chance visitng a rural village. Thank you for the video!
Really Enjoyed watching that, some great drone shots in there..
Yea. I’m going to have to do a super cut of the drone stuff from this trip. Really spectacular. Glad you enjoyed it!
Agree! Drone shots are amazing!!! I've been to the place years ago, it was a fun trip ! Like those real old days constructions and engagement with the minority locals. Matt's vid makes me wanna go back to the place with a drone!! Look at how much I've missed! Nice job! I should arrange a trip next time when I'm back home haha!
@John Lee Because there were some stupid like you. LOL
@John Lee Why not talk about something ongoing today like the George Floyd/BLM protests instead?
@John Lee June 4 incident was created by the USA behind the scene. It was similar to the riot happened in Hong Kong last year.
This village is one of the most beautiful places I have seen. Lovely people as well.
I don't know why youtube recommended this to me. but after clicking it, i can't stop it. great video, such a beautiful village and buildings.
Beautiful bridge...and village!
Straight on...your subscription count is getting close that the next milestone. Glad for you.
Those bridges are just insane. So beautiful yet so old. Amazing China!
you and kirk actually make quite a nice couple, your characters kinda work well together i think, even if your not talking to each other, just kirk coming out with some weird one liners and you just laughing at him, that alone is beautiful to watch.. when you guys went and played pool next to a shop that fixed fans, and kirk just rambles on after a sniff of a beer i love it man, you guys defo should carry on travelling together.
so much beautiful architectures exists in real life. Amazing !!!
11:01 i like those flowerpots against the walls, very creative.
wow,I’ve been to there when I was freshman in college, with all of my classmates.i think it’s about 6 years ago? Change a lot
Always liked it when they had the big stones to walk across the river in some of the small towns.
That village has an impressive bridge with chinese styled architecture
The bridge seems to be a Dong specialty.
This was a great one!
Your thumbnails lately... And the B-rolls! You're killing it Matt! JaYoe!
This may be my favorite Jayoe video yet.
Thanks brother
I am an overseas Chinese in Malaysia. My parents traveled to Malaysia from Guangxi. I have been to Nanning, Guangxi a few times. I really hope to go back there.
Great video! Thanks. A big hug from Venezuela
Very interesting.
Amazing old architecture
I really miss China after living there for six years and my good friends
Really beautiful village. I love that bridge.
Great video Matt. These old ladies have spend all their lives enjoying the peaceful nature of this beautiful village away from all the stress and politics. If they were moved to a modern city they will feel completely lost and won't enjoy it.
The nice things about it is to walk there and find yourself just like the ancient time with a sprinkle of modern day. The architect, the people, the traditions and accessibility make it a memorable journey of a lifetime.
Guangxi has really spectacular countryside scenery. 👍👍👍
China is indeed a beautiful country with friendly and peace-loving people.
Thanks for this fantastic and interesting vlog. 👏👏👏🙌
Well the video title dragged me in!!
HAHA... she was in there.... she was!
worth watching till the end.
But totally forgot about the beautiful girls after couple of minutes.
I guess it's a better title than _"I got swamped by aunties trying to sell me stuff!"_
@@JaYoeNation interview her more...
Enjoyed this type of historical video.. more please
very lovely video. quiet remote village but beautiful!
Maybe someday I’ll go and visit this place. You make it look so interesting. Thank you. Hopefully it’s affordable.
Beautiful place and shots.
We watch both of you with great interest as of course Lily is CHINESE! Yes visiting the ancient Villages is one of our interests when back in China. YAAN our usual but we have just sold our Apartment. 2017 being our last 3 month visit. Lovely to see you both together. Followed you Matt since the first day of riding on Taiwan. Years ago now. Love to EVA ANNIE and WEIFONG. Kirks lovely Wife!!! David and Lily. Reading England.
I love this sort of video of your travels. Remarkably, China is full of villages like this, with very interesting people and sights.
I also want to note the students who ooze with confidence, ambition, a jovial attitude is a common occurrence when you travel in China.
I loved this man when he said " one, one, one for my auntie, one for the grandmum."
Happy to get a glimpse of a beautiful woman at the end. Beautiful place indeed.
That’s really old , according to Chinese history books recorded, it was from 春秋战国初期,around thousands years ago
@Nathan Anderson I believe he's talking about the village?
战国初期还没有开发百越吧。。。?这牛逼吹得有点大了
Recently, I just read that Guangxi is also where they had cannibalism too. It is funny how this man does not realise what is what. And the push in the past wars.. This is like a trip to the Nazi Germany campsites... buying their old shoes or something.... Those bells are amulets.
I love Gweilo and his dad jokes.
It is a beautiful place.
Absolutely
Do you like it?
I did know hangman until I went to Australia and the tutor at TAFE used to play this hangman at the beginning of class.
Magnificent and spectacular aerial view of Guangxi Village. A combination of traditional and new. Guangxi is fast moving forward. Nanning and the cities will benefits greatly from the recent government to connect Guangzhou and Shenzhen of which will see the entire Guangdong be fully developed in 5 years time. Thanks for your effort.
Your humour brightens up my day
Awesome video guys! Wish I were there with you even though I speak no Mandarin.
Awesome view of the village from the air and ground. The preservation and promotion of culture is amazing. In the west we will have pioneer villages but they are smaller and not an entire community like this. I always buy local items from these places to support. The attack of the aunties is real haha.
so happy to watch your videos
So, Gweilo 60 is your guide now. Nice.
In the West you can use that water-wheel on a small river to pipe system to generate electricity and live off the grid, you can power an entire village like that if you live somewhere rural, I know it's currently taking off in Chile (SA) too. By using paddles like that you don't interfere with the natural biome of the river, harm any life or animals or upset the natural balance, and you massively increase the pressure in the hose when the water comes out the other end so generate a ton more electricity.
Love Guangxi so much~ its mountains and rivers, people and all~
Thanks for the video you guys are amazing 😉
Beautiful place, I am definitely going there next summer if this pandemic can be under control and no 14 days quarantine rule anymore.
I'm curious why you guys so rich? Don't you need work??
@@shadowzho2690 I am not rich, just a normal middle class with a stable job and vacation time. Traveling in China is nice and cheap.
The hunchbacked old grandma at 3:23, who was the shortest and most silent and peaceful among all the grandmas on that bridge almost makes me cried. If I were there, I would buy some stuff from her, she was so pitiful, helpless. But you can still see from her eyes how much she wish to make a deal. My heart just broke 😢
Don't be so sad, usually there are many other tourists (including from other provinces) visiting the bridge and buying souvenirs from these aunties. The global pandemic has actually boosted domestic travel within China too.
kudos for you both for being about to keep saying the Dong people with a straight face
Great tour to the world. Thank you.
Wow - nice one Matt - more visits to these older places pls, maybe some stretches of the Grand Canal?
Some might say your guide's school looks more like an internment camp for 're-education' if filmed in another region.
Nice and great video.
Beautiful cultural village bridge👍👍👍
Very interesting video. All the travel videos I have seen of China show big, crowded cities and the Great Wall. I live in Los Angeles, a big, crowded city. Now I will add China to my travel plans.
The bridge is amazing
Love from NC, USA
Beautiful drone shots. The unique architecture style is out of this world. But oddly, one can still tell it is Chinese.
Excellent scenery
what a beautiful place.
JaYoe "Not a lot of teeth but a beautiful smile" 😂 You shouldn't make fun of old people. Imagine it's you at old age some day and a beautiful woman walks by and says "Not a lot of teeth but a beautiful shiny head" 🤣 Enjoy youre videos as always, thank you.
I hope people would say that about me... if you cannot laugh at life and all its nuance... then whats life worth living.. :) I dont know whats shinier.... that guys head or his gums... haha
Learn not to be sensitive over trivial. Wish you peace n harmony.
Shogo nl Many Chinese often make similar comments on appearance too, such as "Oh, you gained weight" or "Why are you so skinny?" or other comments. Most Chinese don't care about "political correctness" and perhaps JaYoe Nation picked up on this culture.
Oh come on don't be so serious we need more humour n fun in our life
Actually, she did have a lot of teeth...
Amazing lovely village.
Beautiful town.
Lovely drone view
GREAT CONTENT
Thanks for this.
What a paradise with beautiful culture and people.
hahaha, hounded by grandmas!! bThe drone shots are fantastic.
Beautiful bridge
O my god! That water wheel is a design from ancient times. Man figure that.
It's awesome.
Wonderful
This vid makes we want to be apart of village china then any modern city...
I like watching you travling to these villages in China
"my daughter's 30-day party, lots of Baijiu" lol this is one of the best lines
It's real beautiful
I just sub ya mate . Beautiful people and art and forget virus crap and enjoying your exploring where you go . Sorry my English not perfect . Cheers From Australia ;)
I like to explore Ma’an Village in Sanjiang. After China, I love to finish in Vietnam. But I am still thinking about where will be the best starting point.
Beautiful China! Must visit.
Wonder whether those multi-level roofs have any functional purpose? Why it was made so complicated? I would imagine it was hard to build them in the old days.
The roof drains quickly when it rains, the house itself is light, earthquake-proof, and very well insulated in the summer. It's warm in winter and cool in summer. This old building doesn't need air conditioning at all.
Beautiful woman! Should have know Gwielo would feature.
Your content are soo cool, will be nice to host u in Guangzhou for a few days and bring you around
Sure do miss being in China.. left in February.. should have stayed 😜
Really nice place.
That must have been the longest Kirk has ever gone without stopping for a beer!
thing is u see all these students on school trips to paint all over china. met 2 of these groups on my last trip to china. and these are art students so they are pretty good.
