Well, funny you say that. In 2013, Rees Mogg was the guest of honour at a black tie dinner event at the Traditional Britain Group. This wretched group of bigots calls for immigrants and their children to be forcibly repatriated to their country of origin.
Rees Mogg later claims he did not know what TBG stood for despite being advised not to attend this event by anti fascist campaign group, Searchlight. You'd also think the name would be a warning as well.

Mogg disliked Mark Carney who was a far better Governor of the BoE than Bailey.
Bailey was Mogg's chosen replacement and, according to some, is a brexiteer. Mogg never takes responsibility and always blames others. Look at Mogg's disgraceful comments on Grenfell or partygate being "fluff" or, how he decided to take a nap on the front bench during a debate. Mogg's record as a minister, in my view, shows he is lazy and is a talker. Time is running out for Mogg - the election is getting closer. The by-elections demonstrates no tory seat is safe.

To the contrary, The Tories are busier than ever, they only have a short window left in which to line their pockets one last time before they are roundly ousted. They need to grasp as much money as possible for the already wealthy by reducing income tax, ensure as many government contracts for all their many cronies are signed and sealed, destroy any incriminating documents, delete all their WhatsApp messages, and leave Britain's coffers as empty as they can for their successors in No.10 to inherit. Not to mention that, even when no longer in office, they will be spending a massive amount of time in enquiries over further scandals that will no doubt come to light. That's quite a bit to get sorted between all the Westminster lunches and bar trips, there's just not enough hours in the day.

If the BoE hadn't been independent, they wouldn't have acted promptly to save the pension industry from the effects of the Truss mini-budget.
When everything went pear-shaped, Kwarteng's reaction was "more of the same," not an acknowledgement of the effects his statement had, nor especially any action to provide a remedy.
The country needs an independent BofE.

The BoE gained independence under Labour in 1998. Interest rates under the Tories spent most on the 1980's in double figures. The lowest it ever was in the 80's was around 7.5%. Financial Corporations and particularly banks were raking in money almost faster than it could be printed. JRM can only dream of such profits and that's the only reason why he would want to see the BoE under Government control. Especially Tory Government control.

Raising interest rates did absolutely nothing to curb the recent inflation rise because it was driven by supply-side issues (primarily the price of oil and gas) and not demand-side issues (people with too much money to spend pushing up prices). Inflation came down of its own accord simply because the big energy price increases were not repeated and instead began to fall. I don't think the Bank of England wanted to put interest rates up because they knew this, but they caved under Tory pressure to be seen to be doing something. All higher interest rates have done is to push the UK economy into recession by further squeezing the consumer, which was entirely predictable when about 80% of the economy is made up of the service sector.

It’s not Labour or the people coming over in boat’s fault today it’s the Bank of England 😂😂😂 who’s fault will it be tomorrow?? 😂😂

The first, the key step in changing is to admit you are going down the wrong path. Mogg will never do that as he "Knows" he is always right.
He was taught that at Eton.

Perhaps if governments didn’t crash the economy then perhaps the interest rates wouldn’t have had to go up!

I thought the rule was if inflation goes up it is the Bank of England’s fault and when it comes down it is because of what the Government does😉

We are supposed to be Global Britain. That means we should understand that global inflation is not created by the UK , and is not solved by the UK.

I would agree with JRM that int rates should have gone up earlier and come down a little recently. As to the treasury changing inflation - well they could have cut VAT on fuel and VAT on other goods ( filling the gap with small income tax, likewise more income tax and less on council tax
