Of the 50 richest countries in the world - _28 are in Europe._ Given that the UK has no natural resources and is not a source of cheap labour, the country has to rely on high value goods and services exports to keep its standard of living. • @philwoodward5069

    Schengen is an interesting question.
The UK's and Ireland's membership of the EU predated the Schengen agreement, so of course at that time it was open to existing Member States not to join the Schengen area.
The UK-Ireland Common Travel Area also predates Schengen and meant that, realistically, either both states would have to join the Schengen area or neither of them could. This is because if Ireland joined Schengen and the UK didn't, or the UK joined and Ireland didn't, the integrity of the Schengen area's external border would have been compromised by the free flow of people between Ireland and the UK (both via the land border with Northern Ireland and through ports and airports).
Ireland was, and still is, prevented from joining Schengen by the UK's refusal to join.
If the UK were to try to negotiate re-entry into the EU, the EU generally and Ireland in particular would be well within their rights to say "we would like you to join the Schengen area". The terms of accession would need to be negotiated.
The negative consequences of our failure to join Schengen include, but are not limited to, Eurostar's lack of commercial success and the associated economic opportunity cost, which is very significant. The channel tunnel rail link could be a railway line like any other, with a variety of regular train services serving a wide range of destinations and interchange points, with the facility to just turn up at the station, buy a ticket and jump on. The economic and cultural benefits could be enormous.

Why do you think Dyson bailed out to Singapore in 2019.

Anyone who can stand up in the Chamber and, entirely without irony, praise the virtues of his "Nanny's home-made marmalade" is clearly out of touch. Anyone who purports to be well-educated, but - ironically - mispronounces sesquipedalian as "sesquidipidalian" is clearly a charlatan. Anyone who promised the British public that we would have "cheaper clothing, footwear and food" as a result of Brexit is clearly a liar. The man's a disgrace.

Rees-Mogg epitomises everything that’s wrong with British politics today. An arrogant, self-serving individual who has no interest in those he’s supposed to serve, but rather treats the masses with disdain whilst promoting his own interests and those of his close circle.

Referring to the earlier vaccine delivery is all that remains to defend the utterly sad result regarding Covid in Britain in comparison to most of the EU including say France and Germany.
The 27 in the EU understood that if they all separately compete for the same product the big countries would have won and everybody would have payed a higher price.
To cooperate was a no brainer and an expression of solidarity.
I have no doubt that without all the brexit in the air Britain would have taken part too in a joint order.
The EU countries were not forced to take part and if I remember Hungary did not and vent for the Russian vaccine.
Mogg has no choice but to repeat those same lies again and again.

Very frustrating that the lie about brexit and vaccines is so rarely challenged by journalists and also opposition mps. This should have been called out immediately every single time a brexitist tried it. Instead it was allowed to run and that is an on-going failure on behalf of parliamentarians and journalists. They should not be able to get away with it.
