Former Brexit Party MEP Ann Widdecombe Gets Owned Over Brexit!

  • The current member of Reform UK and former MEP for the Brexit Party, Ann Widdecombe, made a bit of fool of herself when she was challenged by Matthew Wright on his show. She was asked about benefits and lies surrounding the UK leaving the EU. It didn't go well.
    Update:
    From the European Commission :
Thank you for contacting the Europe Direct Contact Centre.
EU member states can impose restrictions or bans on live animal exports to other EU countries under certain circumstances, but these measures must comply with EU law, particularly the principles of the free movement of goods and the protection of animals.
Member states must notify the European Commission and other EU countries of any proposed bans or restrictions on live animal exports, and they must provide evidence to support their decision. The Commission may review the measures to ensure they comply with EU law.

A quote from MEP Tilly Metz in an article about the UK ban on the Euractiv website.
‘However, a similar ban in the EU seems to be “quite far off in the future” she said, because the decision to limit the export of live animals lies with member states, or in some cases, regions.’
    Also on the eurogroupforanimals website.
‘From July 1 2023, German veterinary certificates for the export of cattle, sheep and goats used for breeding to several countries outside the EU will be withdrawn, a recent press release from BMEL states.
This is not the first time Germany has tightened up their export rules to support higher animal welfare, having already withdrawn certificates for animals used for fattening and slaughter purposes to third countries.’
This would suggest that a ban on live exports is within the power of an EU member state. At least to non EU countries.

I've worked for decades as a forwarding agent, and every EU country always could and still can ban the export of live animals, be it a specific species (for protection) or all live animals alltogether for whatever reason. The EU only sets the basic standards to adhere to if you export live animals, but the EU of course doesn't force it's members to export anything. (The opposite is true, the EU can and has banned exporting protected species of endangered animals for commercial reasons, for example. You still can export them to other breeders or zoos though)
So I can definately confirm that Ann Widdecombe is full of manure. Not that this would be anything new...

They wont have to ban them. Boris changed uk food and agriculture standards to usa level.
Theyre banned by default due to all the hormone levels, sugar levels, colouring levels and banned additives etc.
Its up to our farmers to adopt mixed farming again. The only market they have is britain now.
They wont manage to sell to the usa, usa has bigger cattle, bigger farms, and a lot of them.
Any farmer who voted brexit shot themselves firmly in both feet.
Same for the fishermen. What hsppenes to them. Boris dumped 100, 000tonnes of nuclear waste mud off the coast of wales and now 3 years later all the crabs are gone.
Replaced with 💩 filled shellfish from the thames. Because london has to take it all.

    Londongovuk 11 January 2024
Independent report by Cambridge Econometrics, commissioned by City Hall, shows London has 290,000 fewer jobs than if Brexit had not taken place, with half the total two million job losses nationwide coming in the financial services and construction sectors
The average Briton was nearly £2,000 worse off in 2023, while the average Londoner was nearly £3,400 worse off last year as a result of Brexit, the report reveals. It also calculates that there are nearly two million fewer jobs overall in the UK due to Brexit - with almost 300,000 fewer jobs in the capital alone.

I think all EU countries were sad to see Britain leave the “club”. But they accepted Britain’s right to self determination. Britain continues to struggle with the consequences and discuss what they actually voted for. The EU countries have moved on and now only discuss Brexit among historians. EU have their own interests to protect and they will not always be aligned with the interests of the UK. That is not “punishment”. It’s just areas where there is no common ground. Just like we saw with the failed trade deal with Canada. Canada is not punishing the UK by not agreeing to a deal. They just have interests to protect, which the UK is unable to accept. The UK could easily get much better deals with EU if they would accept the same terms as Norway. But Ann seems to live in a world where she believes that the UK sets all terms without question.

Unfortunately, the UK already enjoyed a fantastic deal with the EU thanks to Maggie Thatcher. She got a big rebate on what the UK should have been paying, and none of the other countries were happy with it. The rebate is now dead. The EU have got along just fine without the UK. They no longer have to put up with the farage insults and bad manners. They no longer have to put up with the UK whining and demands for exceptions. The UK has lost everything it had, and it won't be given what it had. The EU have adapted, and pressed forward. The UK has still not adapted, and is staggering around like a lost drunk. No one in the EU expects or wants the UK to seek entry. They spent 7 years on the exit of the UK. They don't want to waste more years considering an entry request from the
UK. The US clearly wants nothing to do with the UK. So, the UK is the spoiled brat who threatened to leave home, and who realises now that he just made the biggest mistake of his life. Welcome to Brexit Britain.

Those who supported Remain knew Brexit wouldn't be implemented properly. And they knew it because they knew it could not be implemented properly, and the reason for that is the Brexiteers never said what implementing Brexit properly meant.
"Brexit means Brexit" was the answer to what Brexit meant. With that sort of thinking how could Brexit be implemented properly.
