The fact is that there is a severe shortage of labour in the UK, pickers, packers, truckers etc. Which means farmers are not planting, greenhouses are being dismantled and sold for scrap, much of what has been cultivated has now been ploughed back in and less land is being used for farming in the UK. Production from UK farms has reduced 20% per hectare where as production is 5% up in Europe per hectare and there is more land given over to farming since the Russian invasion of Eastern Ukraine. England is f#*ked. And you know it @@TPT6148

    • @YouHaventSeenMeRight

@@TPT6148 The reasons for that are the rising prices of the resources they need and the falling prices they can get for their produce. And in the case of The Netherlands the added pressure on them to reign in their Nitrous Oxide emmissions (due to laws introduced 30 years ago, which weren't enforced until recently, but had to be when an environmental organization sued the Government for failing to do so and won). So those issues are of a different nature than the Brexit induced collapse of the British Agricultural sector.

Go watch a 1980s news cast by Moira Stewart, then watch an episode of Brass Eye. Which do we now have as BBC News? I accept EU membership wasn't perfect and there are areas of the EU that would benefit from reform, but on balance the benefits of being in the EU far, FAR outweighed the costs. Everyone who says 'Oh we'll see a benefit in 50 years' is just absovling themself of any responsibility for the stupidity because they will never be in a position to be held accountable. If we think about 50 years ago from now, that was the mid-seventies in the middle of the cold war with no internet or mobile phones. Anyone who claims to have a solid and accurate understanding of what the world is going to be like in 50 years time is a liar.

This is what prejudice and discrimination gets you! The Brits voted for this because after years, not decades, no centuries of literally pilaging other peoples lands and cultures for their own good, they did not want anyone from those locations coming to the UK! So their hatred for dislike for others, voted in Brexit, lead by the likes of Farage (who I liked in Celebrity btw) Moog and Boris who was a 'Remainer' before he realised Brexit and its associated divisive politics, was his path to PM! Britain has got what it deserves! And will now reap what it has sown! Four different PM's which allegedly none of your want and nothing to show for it! Who have we got beneficial Trade deals with! Unfortunately there is a boat load of us that are going down with you! Folks who never wanted this! My contention is that if you were over 60 at the time of that vote, you should not have be allowed to vote! This was about the future not the past and tainted conquistador, mentality! Moog, ''let them eat cake''!

One thing that the farmer didn't point out. Australian and New Zealand farmers can now send cheap lamb and other products to undermine British agriculture still more.
The Tories destroyed UK manufacturing. Now they're determined to destroy UK agriculture. When will we learn?

The reason for this is to build on the land. You'll notice that the government has pushed for Housing development and is doing nothing to stop illegal immigration.
You'll also see that restrictions on planning are being lifted to suit low cost housing in more areas.

    • @terencej72

@@grahammerry7031 Not that i care who is in power but you'll note that Labour intent to remove a lot of the red tape for house builders thus making it easier to build low cost private and social housing on reclaimed land.
At present if you want to build your own house and employ a builder to do so, you cannot get a mortgage for said property IF your plot was farmland previously. There are ways round this but they are time consuming in that the land must be used for another purpose for 5 years. So that forces you to buy a house from a housebuilder as part of a wider development(in which case they can buy the land from a farmer). You can self finance in which case you can buy a plot of land from a farmer and build your house to your specification subject to planning permission. Even that red tape is now to be removed.
Anyone would think they don't want farmers in this country....

we dont sell "cheap" we sell at market prices.
We could also sell as much when in the EU due to the agreement on the Commonwealth quota, which also gave us access to the EU markets.
The issue is in reality that UK is a high-cost environment in which to farm.

It's about carrying on this perpetual pantomime enforced by authorities, themselves controlled by the hidden powers that want farming to fail, it's a directive across the world, look at France right now, Holland etc....these MP's are intelligent people and are doing their masters bidding.

He sold all his cattle, sat back and played at farming a couple of hours a day and in the ensuing years made a fortune....nuff said ......

So you have a UK farmer who can't manage the extra paperwork to export sheep meat to the EU.
Yet New Zealand farmers have been doing this for decades. What's more they are not subsidised. Ok in NZs case this will be frozen sheep meat. But it still begs the question, why the difference.
Note this is EU red tape not UK red tape.

  • @markdraycott3974

The fact that UK export of apples grew by +6.31% 2022-2023 suggests that the farmer on here is actually incorrect and the fact that whole Apple Pear and quices export market is worth a grand total of £8.7 million would suggest that the true reason the farmers in Kent are stopping growing apples and turning to growing wine grapes is because there has been a surge in popularity in English wine thus creating more demand for the grapes which makes it far more lucrative and easier for farmers to do this.
