Well, Theorists, we’re back with another DARK Paw Patrol episode. Last time we talked about how Ryder is EVIL, but this time we’re here to focus on the pups. Particularly in the previous episode, one specific comment kept coming up about how Zuma is not so bad. Well, we’re here to tell you that Zuma is actually the WORST pup. And we brought data to prove it! In fact, we’re ranking the best and worst pups from Paw Patrol and explaining how Ryder is punishing the worst pup. What I always notice about Marshal's "accidents' is that usually, it's another one of the pups who left out something dangerous, and in his haste to respond, he trips on that. Marshal isn't a clutz. He's just the unlucky one who takes it for the team because the others can't pick up after themselves.
Yeah, I love Marshal! He has a heart of gold and has more personality than the other pups, considering they just seem like cookie-cutters.
I love how MatPat actively realizes how ridiculous and crazy his his theories are sometimes.

The true irony is that Marshall *should* be in Chase's slot. USAR, or urban search and rescue, is almost always a specialty within the fire service. Law enforcement just keep people from crossing the barricade so the fire fighters can do the actual rescuing.

Tbh (as a person who adores Chase) I agree; I also think that Skye AND Marshall should've both had medical equipment in their pup packs not just Marshall as Air rescue are the secondary/first (depending on if anyone in the group knows first aid or not) aiders to an injured person. With the amount of people she saved who were injured but Marshall had to come and check their injuries, it just always bugged me that she wasn't taught first aid and didn't know first aid despite the fact she'd be a lot better fitted for her job if she did.

I’d also like to point out something. In the 44 minute mighty pups special, mayor humdinger’s nephew builds a giant robot which he uses to fly the lookout into space. Instead of using Zuma’s water powers to put out the robots jet pack, they use marshal’s bubble blaster. Another example of not using zuma when they should have lol

My only defense for Marshall is that his ladder only fails bc the writers want comedic purposes especially when it comes to the clumsy characters. The ladder would’ve been more helpful if the writers didn’t go “let’s make kids laugh by having someone fall down a ladder bc it’s funny”

One thing I'd like to add that's not covered by the current data. Most of Zuma's calls are done in an IDLH environment, something even Marshall the fire pup doesn't have to deal with. Zuma's calls present a lot more risk to life and safety (excluding Sky) than the other pups. Especially in real life translation, most underwater rescues performed by police/fire/ems usually turn into recovery operations vs an actual save.
I feel like the reason Sky, Rocky and Chase are getting picked all the time because the stuff they can do for the team are a lot less limited than the other three

If you noticed, the pups didn't find Marshal's clumsiness and jokes funny in the first season. That changed when in the second season, they had the pups laugh with (more like at) Marshal. He did have his own episode where he took care of the lookout tower and solved the emergencies that day by himself, I guess as a way to make him look more competent.

The fact that Zuma is the water rescue specialist, puts him on the same tier as Ripjaws from Ben 10. Since the need for water related scenarios being limited (since dogs and humans are primarily land animals, this makes perfect sense).
Ripjaws was my favorite for awhile, wish they used him more.

So, what do you do for a living? MatPat: uumm… it’s complicated.
It’s not about how many times they’re used, it’s about what they can actually do for the team. Like if someone’s about to fall or something, there’s Chase. Or if someone is stuck on a mountain and needs to be grabbed off, there’s Skye. Or if something needs to be fixed, there’s Rocky. Or if there’s a bunch of rocks covering a train, there’s Rubble. Or if there’s a fire all over tree, maybe even a house, there’s Marshall. And last of all, if there is someone stuck underwater and might even run out of oxygen, there’s Zuma. Just because some pups get used less, doesn’t mean they’re useless, the pups are all there for a reason. Like say the Paw Patrol didn’t have Marshall or Zuma, then who would put out the fires? Who would save someone from underwater? All I’m saying is that there is technically no worst pup, they are all actually best, they are all helpful in a way

less than 20seconds in and Mat has already blown my mind! I actually worked on Paw Patrol and I never managed to watch even half as much as he did. Incidentally I have been watching your channel since it was only Game Theory and it is incredible how far you have grown!
Zuma was a studio fave for many of the asset team, it was always kinda sad how he never got much screen time.
I specifically remember pointing out at an episode review that it was weird that Chase was doing the rescue instead of Zuma when the person in need of rescue was stuck on a sinking boat. I was told that Chase was more popular with the kids. Still many of the people working on the show had Zuma posters or toys at their workstations and he was much beloved.
After how many years of ornaments of Chase, Marshall, Skye and Rubble and repeat repeat...I believe it was last year I FINALLY got an ornament of Zuma! Still missing one of Rocky though but happy to get Zuma he's so cute! As far as screen time goes...if Zuma was featured more I'm sure he would be more popular especially adding all those sea rescues. I was so annoyed with the two water seasons that Zuma was still excluded.

Have you ever thought that maybe Chase is popular with the children is because you keep using him? And have you ever thought that maybe Zuma is popular with the staff is because he represents the working class that no matter how willing and well/hard he works, he is never recognized for his efforts?
I would have stood up for Zuma and said well maybe the reason Chase is more popular is because you guys always pushed Chase. If you push Zuma more in the series he get more love from people because they would see how useful he is.

Another thing about Zuma is that he doesn't need to be called out for water rescue. Since his favorite place is the beach, he's already around to act as a lifeguard.
We need Spin Master to give Marshall a redemption and more trust from the team with more usage to his med kits, and Zuma getting more spotlight shined on him.

Introducing PettyPat the newest pup in paw patrol. With skills in observation, analysis, a stubborn persistence, and powered by a desperate need to be right, and validation, he actually gets a better character arc than the other pups learning appreciation for Zuma.

I say this with all due respect but why is Zuma still on the team if he’s been neglected as much as he has sure a lot of the situations don’t need him to help but even when the team is not doing rescues he’s not really featured especially in the later seasons and most if not all promotional material doesn’t even acknowledge him

One important detail is the fact that Zuma is not explored in his personality.
Rubble and Marshall are always showing emotions and interacting, they are part of the plot, they are used to evolve the script, a lot.
Zuma is just the "water dog", he is less used to support the script than Everest.
I remember when I was younger, thinking that Zuma wasn't a full member of the team. I thought that there were only five, since Zuma was never used

Y'know...they probably could've made Zuma more vital by just having Zuma teach people how to swim better.
Finally validation. I'm so glad this one came out, I was so looking forward to him covering a house Zuma's being boxed out of every mission. They started giving sea missions to Rocky even beford aqua puffs or Sea patrol is a thing, the problem with this is Rocky is deathly afraid of water. Not to mention Zuma has shown himself to be the most athletic of all the pups and even capable of doing things that are outside of his skill-set like when he searches the sewers for mayor humdinger and his drill, so Zuma is more than capable and more than willing of the pups considering he's the most athletic but you still never gets used it's atrocious I'm glad to see matpat finally recognizing how much of a bad hands and was been dealt
I have a thing to say about this.... the profit thing... it appears the pus are volunteer since they are usually out doing stuff when they get called.... yes they could be off duty but really........... volunteer means they don't get payed and the taking in poor pups thing could be Ryder asking if they wanted to help......

I actually had an idea for paw patrol. Mech pups. Pretty much kaijus start showing up in adventure bay so rider builds giant mechs for each of the first 6 pups to battle these kaijus. And these mechs can even combine into a giant robot if the problem gets out of hand. Rocky’s and rubble’s mechs become the legs, marshal’s and zuma’s mechs become the arms, chase’s mech becomes the body and sky’s mech becomes the head and back
Chase: everything on the ground
Sky:everything in the air
Rocky: fixes stuff
Rubble: digs holes
Marshal: puts out fires
Zuma: literally just the sea patrol
I sat through the whole video waiting for MatPat to go on a tangent about how Zuma was given the coolest rescue scene in the Paw Patrol Movie in an effort to sell more Zuma merchandise. Then I realized I should talk to more adults.
Marshall being clumsy is what makes him so amazing. Marshall has always been my favorite pup and he always will be. I mean, my favorite episode was Pups leave Marshall home alone where he did an entire rescue by himself using every single pup pack almost perfectly except for Skye’s. Marshall’s clumsiness is what brings out his personality and shows that even clumsy dogs can get the job done. Marshall is special in his own way and he puts a smile on everyone’s faces.
I love this film theory anyway, a job well done. Just had to spill my heart out a little about Marshall
"and shows that even clumsy dogs can get the job done" except...he usually can't 😅usually he fails the job and someone has to go in for backup, it's gotten so apparent that he's bad at his job that now he's less used and when he is they start with backup knowing he's gonna fail. It's actually really sad..
He's funny and a great pup! Just not good at his job usually sadly..sometimes he does well but a majority of the time he goofs something up and risks lives which isn't ok :(
I think it'd be better if he worked as more of a moral pup! Jokes, helps in any way he can (more than just hose+ladder), and generally helps keep everyones spirits up as imo it's what he's best at; being charming :D
Marshall is amazing and so are all the other pups none of them deserve to be hated and I just hate that people think Ryder is evil and abuses the pups for his own gain its just annoying because I grew up watching this show and I still watch as a teen but because of the social media it has really started to ruin it and I just miss the old version but still I will agree on some of the stuff said in the video but still no pup should be hated or though poorly of so in the end I love all the people and pups in the show and I'm glad to see other people saying it as well.
My little sister watched this and that hidden romance with Chase, and Sky was both adorable and infuriated me cause just like Pokémon nothing happend (Mostly)
