Theorists, the last time I covered Paw Patrol I mentioned that Ryder may be in on the constant cycle of Paw Patrol members - if you know what I mean. Today we are going one step further. The only thing here is that I think we should remember: Ryder’s 10. He likely inherited the Paw Patrol from his parents, and doesn’t realize what he’s doing is wrong. He could have simply been raised that way. So the true villain would be Ryder’s parent(s), or legal guardian.
Most likely since it doughtful a 10byear old would be that Evil on purpose

well the mayor of Adventure bay seems to like him and so he could've changed his Legal age, as he is genius kid, he could've inherited the paw patrol but actually make this plan, maybe his parents meant to do good, but he gained controll over it as there was no legal guardians and not sure if there is any orphanage in adventure bay where he live in since his birth I assume (never really watched the show mostly my brother did and I saw just one of the early movies that was like more episodes in one movie that I took my brother to sooo...) and if there is no grandma/grandpa or anyone to be his legal guardian.
for example in Rick and Morty in the latest series in the episode with the light saber we hear the USA president mention votes morty telling him if he was able to vote he would vote for him, and then the President says he can change his legal age, NOW BARE WITH ME I'm NOT from USA so I don't know if it's possible or not.
But in Gotham following younger bruce after the well known incident in the theatre in the ally way Bruce later in one of the seasons get's his age legaly changed, and in DC universe Gotham may be a fictional city, but it's still very part of USA, so I assume it's probably a real thing.
And since the show is american and the actors of all the citizens, Mayor Ryder etc etc are american we can assume it's on purpose because most of the shows hire a specific voice actor if they wanted it to be for example taken part in U.K or Russia for example, or the voice actors can make the accents.
I have no idea if it was stated in the show where Adventure Bay is Located or the Adventure city is located but I'm pretty sure it's just in USA... So it means that they could change Ryder's legal age in this situation where he looses parents but has undeaniably higher intelect than most of the Adults in the series.
I think the reason why he doesn't arrest the villains is that he keeps on thinking that they'll learn their lesson, and that they'll change.
I mean, he's just a kid.

No Ryder doesn't arrest him because he needs to do the same things everyday so if Ryder was to let's say change up the lifestyle he wouldn't like he would have to do the same things over and over again so that's why he hopes that my mom doing are always tries to and like sabotage to say so he can go and save the day cuz if he didn't save the date over and over again and that's why you never leaves and with a restmere hunting are cuz he needs to do the same thing every single day
Even for his age, you'd think by now he'd have learned they won't change. It's a very common trend. Gullibility is no longer an excuse after more than 400 rescues.

Maybe all the pups and kittens were ex-members of the Paw Patrol and made all the tech (with the exeption of the Ruff Ruffs) before Sweetie and Claw started using their technology for evil. The kittens were abandoned by Mayor Humdinger, only to come back. Side note: Since the kittens were abandoned, they were so bad at saving people in that one episode due to forgetting how to be good after being abandoned for so long. Sweetie convinced the princess to adopt her and Claw went on his own. Kinda like Rainbow Puppy in Blue's Clues. All the pups in Paw Patrol ( exept The Ruff Ruffs and that pirate pup, forgot his name) were in The Paw Patrol.

I like how you don't blame the pups, they just provide protection against Rider if he gets WAY out of hand. Like if he decides that he has to rob the bank to get more money or explode the place entirely! The pups are the good ones, but everyone else is straight dumb in that world other than Rider and them.🙄
It is possible that Humdinger told Ryder that the packs were for his own city's cat-based version of the paw patrol (villains do tend lie, after all). Ryder may have made one for that knight pup, assuming that a knight would use it for good, similar thing with sweetie. Keep in mind, Ryder is (presumably) a teenager. and I doubt he goes to school, so he likely doesn't have much experience judging a person's, or dog's, true intentions.

Also notice how the cats correspond perfectly with each of the paw patrol pups EXCEPT for Rubble's correspondent, which further proves that Rubble was a replacement and that the show is being careful and conscientious with its lore
I just realised that when I saw ur comment! Each kitten looks almost exactly like it's matching pup and the have packs which fit their tiny body, thus makes me think that Mayor Humdinger was causing problems in other towns before moving to adventure bay to cause mayhem following the death of the previous construction pup. So maybe Ryder and Humdigger would establish the paw patrol in different towns and then leave once the whole crew died. Idk tho

@@smiththeinspiringanimator7042 seeing how bad the situations get then it wouldn't be rare for the dogs to die, plus if Ryder moved to a new town with the pups who saw their team die and caught onto Ryders plan then they could expose him which is why I think that he'd stay there making the missions more and more difficult till each one was dead.

I love how a show or game could have very little lore, couple minutes of gameplay/watch time, and an educational message and MatPat could pump out 5 videos with 3 more coming soon with each video being 15 mins long and about how the main character is really an evil sociopath.

Coming back to this 8 months later with a counter theory: either sweetie and claw’s tech was made by barkingburg royalty (claw’s tech often malfunctions so it’s probably very old, from back when he was a knight) or Ryder made the other technology on commission or request.
Ryder is shown to be. Well. Very trusting lol. Plus he always helps the villain characters when they’re in trouble because that’s just the kinda guy he is. So I think he was commissioned to make other tech before the characters were revealed to be bad. Especially in the case of Sweetie, because the princess of barkingburg is canonically already a huge fan of the paw patrol. She specifically requests Chase to come to the castle to protect the crown. I could see her asking Ryder to make her stuff like a car and a pup pack for her own dog. That also tracks with Sweetie having stuff like a selfie stick lol.
Same deal with the kitten catastrophe crew, I think mayor humdinger asked Ryder to make him mini paw patrol outfits and just didn’t tell him what they were for.
Ryder knows the mayor well. I highly doubt he is even gullible enough to not know what he's going to do, even if he too trusting. Same case with Sweetie. If she was a member beforehand, there's no way Ryder is gullible enough to fall for that.
This really is MatPat at his finest. There’s not supposed to be something here to find. Unlike creepypastas, ARGs and other baited mysteries, Matt is out here digging up fresh cadavers in a children’s show. Perfection.

As a father of a two year old who also has to watch a lot of Paw Patrol, I think there's a reasonable alternative that MatPat didn't consider: the possibility of Ryder's tech being stolen and reverse engineered.
Multiple times throughout the series, we see Ryder's tech get stolen. From memory, Sid Swashbuckle steals the pups cars and Humdiggers niece steals and modifies the Paw Patroler. I believe there are other thefts also, though I can't quite remember. Anyway, given how lax Ryder is with the security of his tech, it seems entirely feasible that someone could've stolen, reverse engineered, and sold the tech for themselves - Harold Humdigger for example. He is also a genius inventor, though not on Ryder's level. He either could've invented tech that mimics Ryder's, or reverse engineered Ryder's existing tech.

What if Ryder "lets" his tech get stolen to be reverse engineered. That way, he won't get the blame for damages caused by the stolen tech. But, he still gets credit for stopping the bad guys.
Humdinger doesn't have any capability to reverse engineer Ryder's tech. He can chuck a bunch of scrap metal together and call it a robot, but it is very fragile and with the slightest bit of damage to it, can end up destroying the whole thing. One time, he uses a remote (that he built by the way) like normal and somehow manages to break it into pieces.
One of my favorite things about this channel is the fact that a grown adult gets so invested in kid shows that he spends hours of research to make a theory about how a 10-12 year old is actually evil 😂

Any sibling with a decent enough age gap between themselves and their youngest sibling does the same thing.
As does any parent forced to watch these things with their kids while not having a way to tune it out entirely.
I babysit and the kids I watch love Cocomelon. I've watched it so much, I started theorizing about why two brunette parents have 3 kids, but only one brunette. I know it's possible, it's just highly unlikely and the fact that the first born is the only brunette is kinda suspicious.
It's fun to theorize about the shows because it makes it entirely more bearable to watch so much of it.

Come to think of it, I’m surprised Ryder’s parents aren’t getting regular visits from Social Services. If you look it up, it was confirmed that Ryder’s parents live in Adventure Bay, they know everything their son is up to, yet they let him. They let their ten year old son act as all of the emergency services, constantly in danger. And they’re fine with it.

Honestly, the thing that makes me the most convinced by this theory is that he actually sells merch in the show
If he didn't, you would just stock their "buying food" up to "it's a kids show, get over it, of course they have food."
But by showing the income streams, it brings it really far into the realm of realism.
And so it's not unreasonable to think that Ryder would be concerned with keeping those revenue streams open.
Or its a subtle ploy by the showmakers to get the kids watching the show to by the real world merch.

Theory: Ryder didn't actually make the technology for the villainous dogs (Claw, Sweetie, and the Ruff-Ruff Pack), but those dogs were all former members of the Paw Patrol who learned about Ryder's dangerous plans and left the Patrol to create their own technology based off of Ryder's, so they could expose Ryder and stop him.

I remember making this recommendation a couple years ago maybe even 3 or 4 for mat pat to investigate rider and his business. This is awesome and has answered all my questions and suspicions lol thank you. I have a 7yr old and 3 yr old and was watching alot of film theory at the time and was thinking man. This kid Ryder I up to no good I tell ya.

I have a theory on claw and sweetie. I think that the two were on the paw patrol team but were sadly replaced, and because of that, they still has their pup pack and still uses it for evil since they got replaced. BUT hey that’s just a a theory
Theory: It's Rider's parents doing that stuff. He got his tech know-how from them, and he doesn't completely stop their evil plans because they're still his parents and he loves them.

After being stuck watching my little cousins for years, being subject to endless Paw Patrol, PJMasks, Word Girl, I definitely understand the making grimdark stories about them as a survival mechanism.

I think Ryder heard about or saw Sweetie and wanted her to become a member of The Paw Patrol, so he made the suit and " Pup Pack" for her and gave it to her before he knew she was evil, but they just didn't show this in an episode for some reason. You can believe my claim if you want to, but you can go with your own claim or someone else's claim.
I'm excited for Mat's son to grow up and see this. I don't have to be there to imagine the completely bewildered look on that kid's face.

Well I have a theory about Ryder making the gears for the other pet villians. He probably made those before the new paw patrol recruits, the kitten catastrophe crew must’ve been the first ones to work for Ryder before the pups even existed. So mayor humdigger asked Ryder for new minions [known as the kitten catastrophe crew also known as KCC] so Ryder gave him the kittens since they are useless to him. But what about the other pups like sweetie, claw and the ruff ruffs were one of the original paw patrol members but what happened to them? Who knows but something I do know is when matpat last theory about the original paw patrols dying but sweetie, claw and the ruff ruffs were the only ones to survive and are now in a “better life” BECAUSE they probably ran away from Ryder but why? Is that why the ruff ruffs pup pack is so rusty? Is Ryder really a villain? [hope this theory make sense]
I love the idea that all of this was really intended subtle storytelling that the creators put in the show for their own amusement assuming no 5 year old would ever pick up on it and no parent would be paying close enough attention. Then Matpat noticed and publicized it all over the internet.
Then they are gonna try, but MatPat goes all One Republic and says "it's too late to apologize, it's too late.." that song is one of my favorites, gotta jam it in somehow..
Every time MatPat releases a video like this I genuinely wonder if the creators of the show had any intention of this being the actual story because of how undeniable the evidence in this video is. I get that this is just another kids show that doesn’t need to worry too much about small story details as their audience is literally 5 year olds, but MatPat’s incredible ability to spot evidence like this makes me wonder is maybe the creators did this on purpose as some joke among themselves not expecting anyone to actually notice. Like I said, this is some random kids show that doesn’t need any deep story, it just needs to entertain 5 year olds.

I'd love to see them make this canon. Maybe in 10 years as a reboot, or something, but if they lay ground work for it (or at least don't contradict it) it'd be so cool to seem them do something like that, and do it right. I doubt it though because it'd ruin the "Rider needs us" tag line if nothing else and giant media companies aren't big risk takers.
I'd love to see a gritty reboot tho, targeted to the kids that grew up with it, who now are teens themselves

His theories and the presented evidence sounds always so legit - it needs most times less then half a episode of his theories to be (almost) convinced. Plus his presentation of a new theory is mostly so well done. After all the effort and work, MatPat and his Crew are putting into each and every episode, i would be disappointed, if his theory isn´t at least 25% true. Moviemakers and Game Developers should always be aware of the Theorist-Channels and should include some bits of MatPats theories into their products afterwards.

@@masterofblue4323 well in MY story, there was no other pup. Rocky volunteer to help Ryder test the new bulldozer vehicle. Things went slightly chaotic but NOBODY was hurt. As for the number thing, well Rocky and Ryder kinda got carried away with the painting which included the numbers. So they built Rubble’s rig then, Zuma’s hovercraft but they instead got Zuma first then Rubble

Given how often he likely has to watch this show, finding lore and coming up with theories is likely the only way he’s staying sane at this point. Being forced to watch a kids show because your child wants to watch it is much different than watching said kids show because you want to watch it. After a while you starting noticing things. Makes it easier to deal with. I know the words to most childrens songs because I work in childcare and dear gods you get sick of them very quickly.
Not the Wiggles though for some reason. They never get old, though some of them do very occasionally get stuck in my head. Its the other songs (eg Baby Shark) that get stuck in my head and seemed determind to follow me around outside of work.

A couple things
1.The villains,(Hundinger,Sweetie,etc) have money, so it isnt impossible that they paid someone to make tech based off Ryder's
2.Ryder gave blueprints to a local company, and the villans got them from there.
Certainly possible, and something I thought about as well. However, the points of Ryder's extremely profitable position coupled with the facts that none of the villains are properly behind bars is still rather disconcerting at the very least.

I love that there's about as much evidence as could be possible in a show as lacking in details as this. Like the maximum level of detail that it goes to is all telling the story that the functional tech used by some enemies is identical to the good guys stuff even though others aren't, there's no getting around that design choice.
There's pretty much no way they're actually going to reveal Ryder as a bad guy all along in this show for little kids, but the signs are all there thanks to choices they made that don't really have another explanation
I can only assume some of the people working on it wanted to throw that twist in for their own enjoyment, something only they would actually be able to recognise, and Mat actually saw it 😅
Sounds like when animators put adult jokes in kids movies but on a new level

It's pretty much something the creators of the show, or whoever handles the designs, threw in for the grown ups watching along. They'd notice these things but can't really tell their kids the implications because it risks ruining the show for their kids.

What if Ryder made the pup packs for the paw patrol when they were smaller, but the crew grew out of it. So, Ryder might have thrown away the old pace, which ended up with the mayor. Thats why it fits the kitten catastrophe crew. I dont know how to explain claw and sweetie though.

My personal head-cannon for Odd Squad is that oddness is some permeating force that manifests in odd occurrences and that the gadgets only solve the temporary problem, perhaps even making things worse in the long run. Not to mention the fact that Odd Squad HQ seems to almost be a hub for oddness.

I’m thinking a fair counter argument to this theory is that these people are stealing Ryders technology, as said, Mayor Humdingers kittens steal for him, so, it’s easy to believe that Humdinger stole spare equipment made by Ryder that was originally used for the pups in case their pup packs broke

The kitty catastrophe crew is easily explained when you consider mayor humdingers nephew, Harold, is a boy genius who's intelligence and mechanical prowess rival that of even Ryder himself. Reverse-engineering a few pup packs to fit kitties isn't that hard for a kid like that. Plus he's shown to be very willing to aid his uncle as long as both their plans line up with each other.
Also I figured out who the old construction pup is and, spoiler alert, he's not dead. He's living in adventure city. Ok so remember how in the movie when Chase gets kidnapped and thrown in the obedience school prison? There's a brown, unnamed dog that talks with him and explains his situation a bit. That same dog later is shown later in the final scene of movie to not only have the number to Ryder's pup pad, but also addresses Ryder BY NAME, and alerts the crew of something big going down at the waterfront stating that "we need the Paw Patrol". This dog never met Ryder in the movie, but somehow knows his name AND number? Might be coincidence, sure, but too many boxes get ticked off for it to not be a teeny bit sus...

@@Thepreacher_1 Word, and it fits the "Ryder's an evil mastermind" thing too. It's like the dog didn't die, just aged out of service (bigger adult dog=less control/older body/more difficult rescues) but still kept in contact with Ryder as an agent of sorts in adventure city, setting things up for the eventual arrival of the Paw Patrol. Ryder even is a little surprised at the ceremony when his pup pad goes off, saying "I thought I had this thing on silent!". Makes sense that the previous dogs just merely got too old to be pups in the Paw Patrol and instead moved on to being Ryder's own personal secret spys/agents. It's less dark with the pups not dying part, but in my opinion also more dark when you consider they eventually become full grown sleeper agents that answer to Ryder alone.

As someone who doesn’t have a sibling young enough to have watched Paw Patrol, I have no choice but to believe MatPat. I think this seems legit, though, and I hope that the show creaters see this, and when it ends, the Paw Patrol revolt and take the evil Ryder down.
Ironically, I doubt that would be good for the show's creators. They wouldn't want kids thinking of Ryder as the bad guy, because then those kids wouldn't watch the show or beg their parents to buy merch to begin with.
I think this could happen if Paw patrol was for an older audience (I also think because Zuma is ignored a lot he could get a villain arc)
