I recently made a gloomstalker ranger for a level 20 one shot - made him a half-orc with an Eberron mark of finding. I haven't played him yet but I can't wait! Great video!
@@TheSinisterheroes hey sin in your opinion what is the best class and subclass to pair with oath of conquest paladin out of pure curiosity I'm trying to make an interesting character for a curse of strad campaign because my group has the book and we haven't used the campaign yet so I want to be prepared character wise so is any advice on multiclassing you can give me paladin is a really hard class to multiclass with I also want an intimidating and manipulative type character as well so I'm having trouble with that obviously evil alignment character
Full disclosure multiclassing isn’t my thing but a very powerful combination is conquest hexblade. My thing though is if you throw in a whispers bard, or a swords bard you get some bang for your buck. If you wanted with swords and there flourishes and your smites and you can duel wield so if you wanted to go nova you could if you hit on them all get 3 smites and a flourish in one turn. Plus there’s a bunch of additional spell slots. There’s a bunch of combinations that work. Even shadow sorcerer works really well. Snag that darkness with vision with smites with additional spell slots. Depending on how much you guys do you could hit level 12 before the end in theory. At 6th level it would be easier for you to impose disadvantage and snag some fears or hit with spells. Depending on how you want to build your character. You could do a lot of different builds. I personally like going pretty heavy into charisma and getting fathomless warlock so you get that tendril as a bonus action it’s gross and can be reflavored for what you want. I don’t like to multiclass because it’s just not my thing but when I do suggest multiclassing it makes sense to me to keep spell casting abilities the same so it’s not harder on you. That being said you could drop charisma to a minimum, cus you can get Away with just smiting or using spells that have no need for your spell casting modifier, in which case you could then go anywhere snag a few levels in barbarian or fighter and double down on martial prowless. I considered a necromancer wizard Paladin once it’s complicated, buuuut it might be interesting. Who is your character? I think those components should align with your class or classes.
@@TheSinisterheroes thanks for the advice sin the whispers option sounds really fun seeing as I'm looking for a manipulative and intimidating type character so if I really want a subclass for my second class I'll probably pick that but a fighter 2 Lev dip in sounds tempting mostly because of action surge when the time comes I'll just coin flip it if I still can't make up my mind again thanks sin it's very much appreciated
Playing a level 4 half-elf Sharpshooter gloomie in Wild Beyond the Witchlight. At level 6 I'll be swapping into Rogue; initially I was intending to go Assassin for an explosive 1st round but have recently decided Scout gives better synergy in the long run. After choosing my 2nd feat at Rogue 4, Elven Accuracy, I will be taking a single dip into Twilight Cleric just for Eyes of Night and Vigilant Blessing becoming a darkvision super sniper. Then it's another 3 levels of Ranger; Iron Mind is far too good a feature to ignore while missing out on Alert at Ranger 8 is almost criminal but feel free to insert ASI or Feat of your choice. From then on it's Rogue all the way, Baby. Scout provides better higher level features that compliment the Ranger build than the aforementioned Assassin.
That’s a big build. What level are you expecting to get to? Thats the real thing you have to deal with. You may have to augment your plan based on level cap for your campaign. Nice to see scout getting some play
@@PatRiot-le7rd The Scout provides a bit more depth and out of combat versatility. The Skirmisher feature is a nice attraction too while 9th level Superior Mobility is pure flavour. The Sneak Attack is a natural fit for this build.
This subclass has such a great theme and great mechanics. Fun to play, but not always fun to be in a party with one because of how much they can overshadow the rest of the party, even played by a conscientious player. I'm glad it's one of the subclasses slated for the new PHB.
It is something of done right changes the way a campaign moves in combat areas. Which is a testament to how powerful it is. As long as the combat lasts longer than a few rounds, the power dose drop in the 2nd round. The trick for DM’s is to maybe introduce heavier hitters after the first round of combat.
@@TheSinisterheroes Great points. I was playing in an online, West Marches style Dungeon of the Mad Mage campaign, and one guy was playing a gloomstalker. In every game he showed up for, we all just rode his coattails through combat encounters. I suppose the DM should have adjusted monster stat blocks or added minions, but it seemed he wasn't able to make changes on the fly given his level of experience with the VTT we were using. Plus, he often did not know far in advance who would be showing up from session to session, so I don't fault him at all. It was as impressive to see the DM manage all the goings on of a mega dungeon over months of play as it was to see the gloomstalker curb stomp his BBEGs from dungeon level to dungeon level.
West marches style is something I never really got into it kinda seemed more like a mmo than dnd to me. But I know some people who even dmed for it. It dose become very big those campaigns
Keenness of the Stone Giant can grant more range to Darkvision. An additional 60-ft. An Owlin has 120-ft Darkvision, add 30 + 60, and you'll have 210-ft of Darkvision. Duergar & Deep Gnomes can also get this range. Carry a Bulleyes Lanturn to create a Cone of Light. If you go Druidic Warrior Fighting Style, Control Flames can double or half the lantern's cone range. 30/30 120/120
One thing that I'm wondering about regarding the Dread Ambusher feat is whether or not it could buff flying speed if the Gloom Stalker Ranger could fly naturally and started his turn in the air. The page says nothing about flying, so is this the case or not? I need to know for my Owlin Gloom Stalker Ranger build.
Dread ambusher only increases your walking speed. The way flight works for the owilin states that your flight speed equals your walking speed. So I would definitely rule it that your flight speed would increase, and I believe most DM’s would agree. Just point it out to your DM, it should be not be a problem.

Thank you!!! Level 20 is a lot of fun!! Best of luck!!!
I honestly love the doom and gloom that this subclass provides it really makes you feel like a walking beacon of despair on the battle field
you had me at doom

Happy to help! For what it’s worth I’d go with whispers that extra whispers damage is fun
I currently have a player playing a bugbear gloom stalker/assassin in my Descent into Avernus campaign and they can seriously deal some damage.
It changes how you have to dm LOL which is just wild
I've seen a Gloom Stalker/Assassin multiclass bring a guy down to 1 HP with ONE round of attacks.
Yeah that opening turn is deadly with that combination. It also is soooo edgy I love it!

Sounds like an awesome character build for that campaign: powerful with great utility for exploration.

What are you gonna do with 210ft of darkvision LOL you can’t even hit that far with some spells😂🤣😂
