    When this fight was fresh the DPS check on Golden Bahamut was the tightest ever in the game. 1 death was enough to cause a wipe.

  • @chaoschris8194
    @chaoschris8194 10 месяцев назад +25

    For the last phase, everyone gets a damage buff. But if you die, you not only lose that damage buff, you also get weakness, which decreases your damage significantly. Everyone says golden bahamut is easy... I mean in isolation he is. But you've just had to focus for like 15+ minutes and if you make even a slight error here, you're dead. And if too many have a momentary lapse, you wont meet the DPS check. So the last phase is also about fighting your nerves.

      It's still 'hard' is true because it's an ultimate, but not as hard as 5/6 years ago

    All ultimates borrow mechanics from the fights and bosses they originate from. They are just recontextualized and put together in different ways to make it harder, with maybe one or two puzzle mechanics to solve.
    For example taking Nael, you didn’t notice but in Ucob she doesn’t have a visual telegraph for her dynamos/chariots/dives/stack. You have to literally *pay attention to her rp lines* to know what she is going to do. This is of course on top of juggling thunder debuffs and the fire/ice mechanic and later divebombs.
    You should watch Uwu though. There are no story spoilers for you there.

      now that he has finished ARR, yeah, UWU is a safe fight to watch, its is just a retelling of the whole primal/ultima weapon conflict

  • @shawnscouten5184
    @shawnscouten5184 10 месяцев назад +11

    Nice to see a reaction to ucob, ultimates lore wise are alternate universes presented by the wandering minstrel, the first few start off relatively simple, like “what if you never did coils and bahamut was able to reform” or “what if the 3 msq primals were formed out of an insane amount of aether during your first meeting with the ultima weapon” but later ones get much more complex concepts, like “what if (spoiler) hadnt died” or “what if (spoiler antagonist) had discovered (spoiler plot element), its quite interesting lore wise, even if they didnt happen, its interesting to see what could have happened had things been worse, this applies for most hard content, though the scenario is almost always “what if (boss) was stronger”. As for why phoenix helps you, it is because you weakened bahamut enough for him to break free of his control. If bahamut isnt dpsed below 60% before grand octet finishes casting, the fight continues as normal but when you wipe to teraflare phoenix is unable to break free and you all die. I think you have gotten to the point where reacting to UWU would be spoiler free, so if you want, it would be safe to react to that.

    • @shawnscouten5184
      @shawnscouten5184 10 месяцев назад +1

      I was wrong, if hes not below 60% before octet, phoenix still saves you, he just buffs himself to do unhealable damage ever hit once he turns gold

  • @SaraHungary
    @SaraHungary 10 месяцев назад +6

    The only thing which a single VOD doesn't really tell you, how big the variety is for example in the Nael phase. Usually ultimates have multiple phases with multiple sets of mechanics and you have to learn all of them and be ready to execute any of them.

  • @VashimuXIV
    @VashimuXIV 10 месяцев назад +10

    The phase transition with the Phoenix giving you a second wind and then Bahamut ascending to his golden form is a visual treat for the eyes. I really need to do Unending Coils sometime in the future.

  • @John75ify

    Chat mentioned this at times, but RDM and SMN are pretty busted right now in lvl 70 ultimates, and the point about them having resses matters because the dps checks are *much* easier now than they were on release, so recovering from deaths is pretty easy. The reasons the dps checks are easier even though the ilvl sync is the same are:
    1) Due to job buffs/reworks over time - SE very rarely nerfs stuff that is too strong, they'd rather buff everything else, which creates a sort of power creep when doing older ultimates.
    2) Using relic weapons from later expansions and better food/pots.
    3) The stats on current gear is so much higher than the gear back then that both your high and low stat on the same piece is actually capped as high stat when entering older ultimates.
    I've had groups where our dps was so good we skipped the last divebombs on nael (the green markers that happen at ~9:17) which is pretty huge.
    There are a few details you missed/got wrong but given it was your first view that is completely reasonable - chat pointed some out anyway.

    • @shawnscouten5184
      @shawnscouten5184 10 месяцев назад +2

      Smn in particular is absurd at level 70 to the point where it is the best dps by a significant margin while also having what is essentially a phys ranged level rotation

    • @cynicalmanatee
      @cynicalmanatee 10 месяцев назад

      to add on to the first point, this is OP currently because in previous expansions, skills usually have traits that increase their potency at certain levels so your class "powers up" as you level up. But because SE doesnt want to have a trait system flushed out for even 10 level increments, a lot of recent buffs are just on the base skill themselves. So at lvl 90, something like 490 potency for a WAR fell cleave is reasonably balanced, but for level 70 content, that is WAY too high as a GCD. This is just one example, but even things like the recent red mage buffs that are 20 potency to their spells, at level 70 when these numbers are not scaled, they end up doing a lot more damage than intended.
      That being said, specifically to UCOB IMO, the difficulty is not the DPS, its "easy" because you don't need to be sweaty on damage, but the mechs are still quite BS.

    • @Erik-bs6eq
      @Erik-bs6eq 10 месяцев назад +1

      also with RDM and SMN in particular... I think it's pretty obvious that SE doesn't care all that much about balancing below max level. They probably try to eyeball it for a second but SMN had the rework just this expansion so it's not compounding interest of buffs over the years or anything like that.
      They want to absolutely avoid accidentally making jobs weaker when leveling which could ruin the experience for people playing the game for the first time and getting bodied in some leveling dungeon (leveling dungeon anything below 90, so even a lvl 79 dungeon etc). So priority #1 is for the job to be same strength level as previously, or slightly above because at the end of the day, very few people care about the lvl 70 balance nowadays.

    Shame you didn't see enrage where the Akh Morn tankbuster becomes instant death and you have to spread out as every player gets picked off one by one by it unless you hopefully kill the boss first.

  • @DantoriusD
    @DantoriusD 10 месяцев назад +5

    This Run would be a 100% Enrage Wipe back when its current. Not only the Phoenix rezzes you but you also get a i think 30% or 50% DPS Buff and when the SMN died at the first exaflares he also lost his Buff. They never would jeat enrage with such a Big DPS loss back then.

    the double damage buff outweighs dps lb, and in terms of the stack i think its 30%mit + shields needed. some jobs dont have mit at 70 like DRK and WHM so most groups (in pf at least) will lb each stack or every other

    I’m glad you reacted to ucob! It’s by far my favorite fight in game, even having done all the ultimates I still love to go back to ucob for fun times. Watching a clear vid doesn’t give you a good view of just how chaotic it can be, nor how bad a wipe in adds (second to last) phase feels when someone steps in a twister. I hope you keep with the game and maybe try them once you hit 70!

  • @cynicalmanatee
    @cynicalmanatee 10 месяцев назад +1

    Did chat tell you that this fight has no visual tells? all mechs are either cast bar, or the quote Nael yells at you in the middle of a battle in a text bubble? thats the hardest part of this fight IMO

  • @Senbonzakura_XIV
    @Senbonzakura_XIV 10 месяцев назад +2

    watching an older pov would've been much better imo compare to recent ones because of all the cheese strat , like for example all the lb tank in golden are just safety cheese cause dps check is really unexistant now, you pretty much had to do full dps lb during golden when it came out ( 2 lb3 and one lb2 at the end ) couldn't afford death also x)

  • @rainyglow
    @rainyglow 10 месяцев назад

    so to answer your concerns about the LB usage in golden bahamut, it's mostly because the 5 morn afahs spread throughout the phase all hit very hard and you kind of have to spreadsheet out your mits so you can handle each one equally. the reason you might not use LB3 on one when you already have it is so you can get one set of mits on cooldown so theyll be back up later, for example my group did something like this
    morn afah 1: Tank LB3
    morn afah 2: Tank 1 mits
    morn afah 3: Tank 2 mits
    morn afah 4: Tank LB3
    morn afah 5: Tank 1 mits and any available tank 2 mits

  • @MrZockio

    the preassigned positions are priority based. you want your meele dps to have as much uptime as possible, so you do a priority of meele closest neurolink, ranges farest. a priority can look like this : m1--->m2--->r1--->r2--->h1---->h2. so you take this priority and say regardless who gets it, meeles always take closest neurolink. if both meeles get it the priority says m1 closest, m2 second second closes neurolink, if 2 ranges get it you have r1 closest neuro, r2 second closest and so on. or you just pre position yourself into the direction of the neurolink and yolo it.

    When ultimates were first conceived by the devs they were thinking of ways they could use already existing assets to give us more to do. Yoshi P actually almost said no to the idea of Bahamut having a new phase at the end because back then their budget was very small. Nowadays xiv budget has actually ballooned in a big way. So they do some really crazy shit with ultimates now. But during UcoB the devs were still constrained by the budget and it shows.

    UcOB suffers from feature creep. Since it was the first fight it was balanced around the classes that were around at the time. It was one of those fights where just one death on a clear run was met with just walling it and restarting to save time.
    As the game has gotten older UcOB and Ultimate Weapon are now considered difficult but not at the level...even Ultimate Weapon wasnt considered that difficult when it was introduced and was made easier by the passage of time. The Epic of Alexander, Dragonsong War and The Omega Protocol are what ultimate is currently. Still impressive clear for a fight no matter how old it gets....just wish they would slightly adjust the older fights a bit more to keep the skill and difficulty relative.

    Looks like this was a kill from either ShB or EW, because dps checks are non existent. Should check a SB kill. Always better to look at a kill from the expansion it got released in because job adjustments over the years completely destroyed the fights, especially UwU
