  • Mustang Season 1 Episode 2: Round 2 of Mods featuring the Ford Performance PP. Soooo I know I said that I didn't plan on changing anything in the engine... but this fell into my lap. The Ford performance pack stage 2 is a kit you can purchase that is completely smog legal and legal all around. With it you get a new throttle body, intake and tune. Overall installation is simple and easy, I just wish that someone would look at the software side of this to make it easier for installation of the tune and just usability.

    I've done this twice, on a 17 and on my current 21 and they are just beautiful, it made my 17 nasty nasty, all kinds of popping and it wanted octane booster ,not the case with the 21 where it just seems smoother..and some nice pops, three tenths quicker according to the draggy,12.2@117 and the transmission shifts less instead of constantly up and down... these power packs are definitely worth the money.

    I'd love to see some before and after lap tomes at Streets or Big Willow.
    It's rad that Ford has warranty-friendly upgrades.

      Absolutely the lap times on all the parts that are supposed to make you go fast and see if they actually do that.
      Ya that’s one of the reasons I opted for the mustang warranty and smog legal!

    What were the hurdles with loading the reflash and how do I avoid it when doing my PP3?

      The instructions were lackluster, but you need to read and understand them fully before starting the installation.

    According to Lund Racing (pretty much the premier Ford aftermarket tuner) and VMP (tunes and supercharger systems), the gt350 throttle body is worth next to nothing except tuning/drivability issues and the real gain from those packs is the gt350 intake manifold. That being said, the 18+ has been proven to be almost as good as the gt350 at significantly lower cost. Best performance mods are long tube headers and e85 tune

      Ya I didn’t go the intake manifold route after looking at both graphs. As much as the high rpm hp matters I felt it lost too much in the mid range. Much of it is that I wanted to keep the car as simple as possible engine wise.

      I tried a tune with VMP and a massive flowing cold air intake. They just don’t deliver an emissions-legal solution, even on a very simple setup. Irrelevant for my purposes. The Ford tune provides real gains down low and almost everywhere for that matter. The GT350 TB is 15% bigger so it’s no small change. Everything including the tune working together makes it a great package IMO. Yes, the documentation could def use improvement.

    how long did it take you to install? between 3-4 hours??
