lol I've seen my buddy remove hsi entire drivetrain and motor on his f1x c6z twice in a day, and put it back in twice as well all in the same single day. He's powered by about 40k of weed a year though
I have about $45k total invested in my 2008 Z06 (I know it's not worth that much. Engine upgrades costed around $10k - money I'll never see again, but it sure makes the car fun!). Anyway, it's just a naturally aspirated Heads/cam/exhaust LS7. No supercharger, turbos, or nitrous. Since it weighs just 3100 pounds, and now produces 660 hp, it will outperform any stock C7 Z06, Hellcat Redeye, and even the 2020 C8. The LS7 (with aftermarket heads) is a beast of a motor. It's the most fun I have ever had driving on the street.
I would just do a cam/heads swap on that LS7. It'll produce about 625 hp and no blower and all the issues it brings with it. It's 1/3rd the cost of that blower kit. And if you're going to rip out the drive train to replace the clutch/flywheel, replace the $5.00 rear main seal.
@ Yep. If you're going to remove the drivetrain, replace the stupid simple things that wear normally. Especially on a car that has been beaten to death. I wouldn't want this car.
"We would never attempt this on a set of jack stands." I have done a clutch swap on a C5 Z06 and a C6 GS and both was on jack stands. I also was by myself the whole time. Its not easy and a lift is definitely a huge help but you can do it on jack stands just fine.
@deadend Nothing dangerous about putting a car up on jack stands, it's literally a safety device to use when you jack a car up so it doesn't collapse on you in the first place.
@deadend Not sure you've ever worked under a car on jack stands before, there is literally nothing dangerous about it. Less room, sure. But at the same time... you have a jack on the trans when you drop it in either situation anyhow.
@deadend Except we're talking about a jack **stand** not a jack. You need a jack for both the lift or the jack stands anyhow, for removal of any parts you're dropping from underneath. You're not under the car very much to drop a transmission, as you're lowering it down onto a jack to pull it out. A jack stand is the exact same material as a hydraulic lift, they're both steel. One just has a hydraulic cylinder to move it up and down. Sure the jack stands don't lift it up as high, but you don't need to stand under a car to work on it, your grandfather did it long before those lifts became wide spread. Guess what they used then?
"...pain in the ass..." Just a gentle reminder that Colossians 3:8 instructs us not to use vulgar language. Ignore God's rules for living at your own peril.
They're actually very easy to work on. Don't let pulling the drivetrain out of the car intimidate you. It's very easy. One of if not the easiest car i have ever worked on.
Scratch the Super Charger if you do it right you can get 600 to 650 at the wheels N/A Heads / Cam / Intake / Exhaust / Throttle Body / Cold Air Intake /Injectiors / Fuel System etc. Probably need a stronger clutch too
Now I’ll tell you what. There isn’t a damn thing you can’t do on jack stands and a few busted knuckles. Changed a transmission in 3 foot of snow on jack stands
Cali Angler he spent $48,000 to beat a $70,000 hellcat stock my factory. Pretty good numbers if you ask me. Out another $15k in and you’d walk just about anything stock.
Jarrod G he could have easily gone the n/a route with doing his heads, bigger cam, some bolt ons and e85 and it would easily take out hellkitties all day
I did this on a 09 zo6 on the floor with jack stands by myself.😂 probably one of the harder jobs I’ve done on jack stands .but it can be done also rebuilt the torque tube and added a twin disk . These cars are a lot of fun 👍🏻
I'm not sure why you would buy a c6 z06 and supercharge it (unless you're building the motor). You can make over 600whp (650+ crank) with heads/cam/intake/headers. Let that 7L breathe!
Makes you understand how stupid that video is of the guy that thought he was doing a killer burnout but was smoking out his clutch. Watch it if you like to cringe ;
Very good show. Really helps to have a buddy and a lift. I have the same car, similar mods but use one of those quickjacks only 3ft lift and often no help. Takes me 18 months to do this job in rare spare time.
If ya done an RaceProveMotorsports, "RPM," Cam package, w/ full intake & exhaust, they have made 650WHP, saved weight, prly cost less, and been a better car all around. Then put a blower on, lulz.
Haha ya I thought they were going to upgrade the heads and cam as that would definitely make it more competitive against the c7. Advanced induction 280 cc cnc work on the stock heads, 1 7/8" headers, RPM B-3 cam (some are saying the actual spec is 243/259 .623 .623 116), ported Msd intake manifold, Halltec or Vararam intake, plus a good tune would have got them to 640-660 horsepower at the wheels (540-560 ft lbs of rear wheel trq)
What about the valve dropping issue with that 7.0? Should of really done something before it does something. Also you didn’t replace the pilot bearing, big no no.
There was a video they did on a mustang where they drilled and tapped into the oil pan while it was still on the car. They show you so many things to not do to cars. I also would never drive one of their cars. It would be sold if I ever won one.
You can add a supercharger to a C6 and get equal power, but it will never keep up with the C7 as far as handling. Between the much stiffer frame to the electronic rear differential and electronic steering rack the C7 simply handles noticeably better. I've had both the C6 and currently have the C7, both Z06's, and the C7 is much more stable and planted, and gives you much more confidence in the twisties.
I would've replaced the pilot bearing also. The needle bearings go bad and can cause drive line vibrations. Being a GM technician and doing it under GM warranty, you were careful with checking all components didn't want to do the job for free.
Nice video. Since you had the torque tube out, I would have checked the couplers. They are known to fail and cause increased vibration. Cheap to through a couple new couplers in.
after having removed my c6 drivetrain twice using jackstands.. I'd definitely second the sentiment of using a lift if possible. I see now why so many C6 are heavily modded. It's so labor intensive to do some jobs it's almost better to just take the whole car apart one time and put all the mods on as you reassemble the car. I sure hope this car's torque tube couplers and bearings were at least inspected before being put back in. (yes, I realize this video old.) The C6 is a love/hate car for sure. Love driving on it, beginning to hate working on it.
Lol I pulled the subframe off the corvette about 5 times. On jack stands. Got good at it. Was able to do it in an hour. Not a bad job. Only thing that is annoying is the center heat shield.
Back in the day I used to be a Corvette specialist.. I worked 5 years at a dealership. And did a lot of heavy work on the high-end cars... You'd have to pay me an exorbitant amount of money nowadays to touch the last two generations of Corvettes..
You don’t need boost in a c6 z. Heads , cam , ported msd intake, cold air , ported tb and you have 580-620whp na add e85 and you have 650 whp n/a. At the lowest and smallest cam 550-580 whp that will bot race a c7 z which makes 550-570 whp 580-600 wtq stock in both et and trap speed. You add boost and it’s not even fair for the c7 z it’s to heavy at 3570 the c6 z can weight 3109-3200 or less with light weight wheels and headers . Second those brakes are two heavy you want 2 piece rotors with aluminum hats those are one piece and heavy.
I read somewhere that GM had built a 454LS engine based off the LS7427(really426). However they couldn't get it to pass emissions. So they moved on to adding blowers. But somewhere that engine exists. It would be cool to see a Hotrod story about it!
Theres a lot of engines that GM (among others) have made that are along those lines. No doubt they made a LS 454, they were also developing a factory V12 and V16 at one point like 10-12 years ago. If you want to know where they are now, id say take a look at that soda can you may be drinking from and theres a good chance a bit of it is in there.
super well made content! oddly i get wheeler dealer vibes (the brithish show where they buy a used car and restore and sell it)! i mean that in the most positive way. i know its not the same but the camera work and narration is similar ! new sub here
I agree with the real main seal comment - replace it while in there. Why not rebuild the torque tube also while it’s out of the car given the power upgrade and past track use …
I won’t even go past the first 5 seconds of this video, and whole heartedly say “yes you can!”. The new Vette is made for dudes who wear pink polo shirts with the collar up and penny loafers without socks. Engine front, tranny middle, drive wheels rear…that’s the formula for dudes with swingin’ Johnson’s.
16:50 I love the car and the mods are great. However if as you say you want to "Give back to our customers" giving a single car away to one person isn't the way to do it. (Congrats to the winner). How about giving a special discount on the brakes to all customers as well. That would actually "Give back to the customers".
I cannot believe you did not do a Dino run prior to the engine work and exhaust. Instead you use your Dyno machine as a parts counter. Also I hope in the next video it shows you addressing the head problems that are major issues with this particular years and engine. There's videos on here of people leaving the dealership and had gone a couple of blocks away and had to be towed back to the dealer. GM is aware of the issue what has refused to fix. It's just like Ford's with their 6.0 diesels they are aware there's major issues but but refuse to fix. Anybody with Gen 6 Corvettes that are ZO6 have a saying have you fixed your problem with your heads and if you haven't yet it's just a matter of time before it goes.
This is what makes RUclips great. You can learn how to do jobs like this from professionals. Back in the day you had to get your local mech drunk or stoned and interrogate him the whole time he is getting high and hope he knows wtf he is saying. RUclips made life easier.
I had a ZO6 2008 the car was a nightmare Val's dropping and GM never was responsible for any of it. Stopped at a red light Val dropped into the motor I would never buy one again. GM did not stand behind their product and knew it had a problem never again but nice video
@@Texas_Cruiser I ended up replacing the motor $14,000 brand new crate engine. Anyone buying a C6 ZO6 replace the heads. The motor is tremendous but those heads are terrible.
@@garyrichardson7592 goodness gracious they couldn't just repair that cylinder or bore and stroke the motor? And about your experience with GM...supposedly it was on a tiny percentage of cars so did not warrant a recall...key word supposedly. Just the fact that it's even possible to happen and the severity of it should warrant a recall or extended warranty!
@@Texas_Cruiser just my luck to get one it wasn't the boar it was the heads.if I had known I would have put a different set of heads on the car. I have a new Z06 now convertible zo7 and it goes into limp mode at 160 so I'm getting ready to have it tuned it's running out of fuel upstairs 116,000 and this is what I'm getting at 160.
And I have two rims that's cracked from poor quality the Corvette I hope the new one is much better do I'm going to have to get me a Porsche maybe I'll get better quality I like the Corvette I'm on number 15. They won't even replace these rims that's bending on everyone the ZO6 and Grand sport wow
First of all I did remove my c6 drive like on jack stands. Wasn't bad. This is a pretty easy job. Second don't use power tools on the clutch like these guys cause you can kick up some clutch pad dust.
A 2015 Z will run between 44-52k... an 06 Z is anywhere from 25-35k... so meet in the the middle 46k vs 30k leaves you with a 16k budget... so, probably.
sparkplug1018 and a c6 Z when it was new was around the same price if you count inflation. So, comparing new vs new, would leave you with a budget of 3K at the most. No way 3K will get you the gains needed on the c6 platform to touch 650 hp with 650 tq.
@ You can use the $12,000 you save on the Vette for more horsepower and easily outrun the GT500 in a drag race. You can't make the GT keep up to the Vette around a corner no matter how much money you throw at it...
This was the build that made me rethink my desire of owning a Corvette, particularly when seeing all the work that Mike and Pat had to do in order to do the transmission swap

POWER UPGRADES! (Shows footage of the transmission) LOL.
Just like the carbon fiber 6 piston brembo brakes
Love the build but I can’t stop looking at the mismatched paint between the bumper and the rest of the car.
Great episode keep them coming!
super well made content! oddly i get wheeler dealer vibes (the brithish show where they buy a used car and restore and sell it)! i mean that in the most positive way. i know its not the same but the camera work and narration is similar ! new sub here
Awesome video. Love the older z06.
What's the HISTORY OF AMERICAN MUSCLE gonna do if Mike goes you know !
Ive always liked the 09 zr1 more then the newer corvettes
PowerStop.. actually have a set on my 2014 V6 Mustang. They've worked pretty well so far. Think they're the Z23s.
C7 is by far the pinnacle of Corvette.
Lots of people prefer the looks, much lighter weight, and NA 427 of the C6Z...
Pro chargers add 50% increase horsepower so 750 hp is easy with the ultimate ls engine
Great pen collection.
Nice to see Ryan Gosling's haggard older brother came by for a visit.
C6 corvette is king.
You can make more than lt4 with an N/A setup on that ls7
All you need are stickers. Lots of stickers.
that clutch job is a nightmare
Love the show, wanna see some ramcharger bronco blazer jimmy stuff
18:06 the tuned performance indicators allow you to know how soon they want more money from you
16:50 I love the car and the mods are great. However if as you say you want to "Give back to our customers" giving a single car away to one person isn't the way to do it. (Congrats to the winner). How about giving a special discount on the brakes to all customers as well. That would actually "Give back to the customers".
They gave to you in spirit. He enjoys it for all the customers.😂🤣😅
I've never owned a Chevy I'd love to own a Corvette I'm a Ford guy got a few mustangs expedition what I'm missing is a Corvette
You can tell they had no say in these parts what a hodge pog
This is what makes RUclips great.
You can learn how to do jobs like this from professionals.
Back in the day you had to get your local mech drunk or stoned and interrogate him the whole time he is getting high and hope he knows wtf he is saying.
RUclips made life easier.
That's one bad ass Ford
I’d still take one of these any day over the mid-engine models
I had a ZO6 2008 the car was a nightmare Val's dropping and GM never was responsible for any of it. Stopped at a red light Val dropped into the motor I would never buy one again. GM did not stand behind their product and knew it had a problem never again but nice video
Did your block crack or was it just that one cylinder and piston with valve that were ruined?
Haven’t seen the part where you all take it on the track at the Corvette museum, also didn’t see it on your playlist
wish i had these guys skill and know how
A 2015 Z will run between 44-52k... an 06 Z is anywhere from 25-35k... so meet in the the middle 46k vs 30k leaves you with a 16k budget... so, probably.
Doober717 c6 z06 is 15 k
Just seen one for 39k and one other for 40/41k(ish) come on C8! drive them babies down! lol
Sure a 2015 will run about 48k, today. Not when it was new.
preludeF20Bking no it is not.
sparkplug1018 and a c6 Z when it was new was around the same price if you count inflation. So, comparing new vs new, would leave you with a budget of 3K at the most. No way 3K will get you the gains needed on the c6 platform to touch 650 hp with 650 tq.
It's funny, the 2015 ZO6 was $80k, the new 2020 Mid-engine Vette is $60k (that's what they say anyway) and will beat it.
65k, and wait til the 2020 Z06 comes out.
60k msrp.... they're not going to be available for that
@ Anybody that buys a new Vette for drag racing is just silly.
Put it on a road coarse and let her rip.
@ You can use the $12,000 you save on the Vette for more horsepower and easily outrun the GT500 in a drag race. You can't make the GT keep up to the Vette around a corner no matter how much money you throw at it...
bdd1469 yeah idk about that.. We'll see
Wagner brake pads say to cut noise. They have to chamfer them. Why Power Stop don't chamfer their pads?
This was the build that made me rethink my desire of owning a Corvette, particularly when seeing all the work that Mike and Pat had to do in order to do the transmission swap
I still want one but because of the size of my upper back it's really uncomfortable. I can get in a one but it makes me really claustrophobic.
🤤🤤 mouth watering Chevrolet performance
This would be a badass car to win
Supercharger, poly bushings, yellow stuff brake pads, top end or R compound DOT tires maybe. Easy... 🙄
I still wonder why didn't you just hit 20M subscribers yet...
That's super wet!!! I would so love to have that!! That car must break necks lol
Should have gone with the Magnuson 2650 blower. I think everyone knows that's true by now. ~
It want available back then when this was aired.
Now I know what the indents in my forehead are for never noticed them until hair loss so like the tires my performance isn't fully optimized my indents are showing. I'm glad my wife hasn't seen this video
