I would like to see or can you explain how you determine and or reply on how you go about determining the length on rocker studs on big block and small block Chevy when using after market heads . This is something that I have not 20:18 seen covered on your show or any video that I know of. Reason I ask is I’m building a mark IV 427 with pro comp. Heads and went from hydraulic flat tappet to hydraulic roller my push rod length changed of course but I ran into a problem of the stud length needed to change also this is from the rocker side length in order to get proper valve train geometry set up also only 1 stud on each cylinder needed a longer stud length because of the boss where the stud was resting in the head was lower on intake than it was on exhaust. I needed 5-3/4 turns on my rocker nut after paralleling the 1.7 rocker to the valve spring upper keeper using a line through the trunion through the center of rocker tip . I could do this on the same exhaust stud that was used on flat tappet cam but the intake stud was not long enough to get this pre set to measure for proper push rod length . Love watching your show and all the info you guys cover on engine building great show .

People have made more comments about beating that lower pulley on. Most engine builders do whats called setting the crank and that is giving it a couple of raps on the end of the crank with a piece of wood and a bfh. I always go back to front in the direction my clutch fork pushes. Beating on the crank with the little rap taps he did will not hurt the thrust bearing nor does it change end play from where it was at to start with.

Given those huge heads I don't see 870hp being that hard to achieve here but doing it while being EPA compliant for a car or light truck is another story.

I design the assembly lines, fixturing and tooling for BMW engine group and must say you use more lubricant on one engine than we do in a week of production. Is this an American thing or personal enjoyment?

    • @stanleykendziorski7964

High piston speed engines generally dont last long, but considering they'll probably take it out once or twice, then itll probably get started up once in a while, itll be fine lol

Isn't it true that the piston to wall tolerance is generalized for all regions and temperatures? And that if a car was confined to mild desert or west coast temps that the clearances could be less?
Allowing for a tighter ring pack/piston design, of say 1mm, 1mm, 3mm. For a turbo engine with a maxed stroker/rod ratio, and a fully supported oil ring land...With aux. h2o & oil heaters/gauges for good measure. Shouldn't the building tech improve with the times? I'm talking about a custom built engine, for that region.
