I lived in Door County Wisconsin for over 26 years so far. I was from Illinois. My parents had built a vacation home in Door County in the fall of 1979. With them that I spent a lot of my vacations with them and my sister. When my parents retired in 1993 from teaching and made their vacation home as their permanent home. I stayed with them from 1993-94. I was working in a grocery store near their home. 93-94 was a tough winter as I remembered. My sister was in Spain for a part of the year. She came back and stayed with us. My sister and I moved back in Illinois to lived in 3 different apartments for the 3 years. I moved back in mid May 1997. It was a beautiful Mother’s Day weekend. When I started to work at a different grocery store it got colder in the 30’s. I wasn’t expecting it to be that cold in mid May. It was cold for a week. It got to be back to normal temperatures. On December 1st that I moved in my apartment that same year. I did liked to lived with my parents during those months. They had 2 cats that I both liked. One cat was so old and frail that was an old buddy towards me. The other cat that I did played with. I don’t think that I have an accent nor people in Door County sounded the same as I do. Even my grandmother lived in the county, too. She was from central Illinois. She sounded liked she was from the south. Even my mother was from the same area and doesn’t have an accent liked my grandmother did. I do feel liked that I do belong in Door County because of being part Swedish and part Norwegian on my father’s side of the family. Even my last name is still Peterson.
I spent the first thirty years of my life in Wisconsin, but currently live abroad in the southern part of South Korea. I've seen people from other countries complain they've never experienced winters this cold before. To explain, the winters in my city usually average around the upper 30s/40F in the day and upper 20s/30F at night. An extremely cold night would be in teens fahrenheit. This is considered too cold for them. What I'm getting at is states like Minnesota or the Dakotas might have worse winters. But if you tell someone that's used to warmer temperatures that winters in Wisconsin are "not that bad" you are setting them up for quite a shock.
When I was growing up, Wisconsonites couldn't buy margarine in the state (Oleo as it was known back then), so we would always bring a case when we visited our relatives there. Of course, we would usually return home with plenty of dairy products.
@@madtownangler It was before my time, but I understand margarine was initially pure white, so they included at small pkg of yellow food coloring you would mix with it to give it the color. By the time I was old enough to remember anything (early 50s), the margarine we bought at our local store was the same color as butter.
Grew up in rhinelander wi for most of my life. My family moved alot but i have lived in The u.p, stevens point, Minocqua, st. Germain, and eagle river. I was born in walworth county wi. Everything you said in this video is very accurate!
@@feija77 hey! Me personally, I notice allergies primarily during two seasons. Spring and fall. I think right now I’m actually experiencing a bit of allergies, but it’s definitely a thing here with the change of seasons
I moved to Wisconsin when my father moved us from Chicagoland to Rhinelander and later Sugar Camp. Went to high school in Rhinelander "Go Hodags!" and the people are very nice. Oneida County has one of the most beautiful courthouses I've ever seen with it's Tiffany glass dome is beautiful at night. Left in the late 70's to go to college and didn't return, but I still have a soft spot for the beautiful state that is Wisconsin.
If you want to buy a snowmobile there is always one for sale out in the country here in southern Wisconsin because the winters down here don't really get very much snow anymore. If you are over sixteen unless you are good at sports you pretty much don't exercise for the rest of your life LOL. I remember leaving the state for ten years after high school and seeing pictures of friends in the newspaper and seeing how fat they had gotten in just a few years...of course I have caught up.
@@joshbrosthomes I am not sure. I’ve lived in very small cities for years. Then my husband bought a house very remote. He passed and I really need to be near stores, drs, stuff like that without a lot of traffic. My daughter is in Neenah. So other places close to that would be best

I have lived in Wisconsin since the beginning of High School. I find that I can actually afford to own a house here. Average house prices are pretty good. Food is fairly affordable because there is a fair amount of local produce available.
100%! Anywhere in the Midwest will be cheaper than the West or East Coast. I'd much rather live here and not deal with the traffic and insane cost of living
I'm from Wisconsin originally but have lived in California for 10 years now. You forgot Friday Fish Fry's and Custard Stands for food. Also-- California is the largest dairy producer in the USA-- Wisconsin is #2.
I remember filling up a small cooler full of cheese from Wisconsin when I visited just to bring back home for friends. Glad I moved back here twenty years ago.
Honestly I don’t know much about Turtle Lake or that part of the state, but looks like a great location. Close enough to Minneapolis but definitely will be a small town feel out that way

A proud Wisconsinite here! Love my state! Go pack go!

fun fact, wisconsin has more bars/taverns than grocery stores
Very true!
Central and northern Wi tend to be higher elevation too. 400 to 700 feet with a couple degrees of latitude makes a difference for the earlier snow.
Been a Wisconsinite for three years now, still a Bears fan!
Should be a great game today! #GOPACKGO
