I go up there all the time to get away from flat southern Wisconsin. Also the cities of Superior and Ashland were nowhere near where he labeled them on the map.

For me it really depends on where in IL the person lives. Of course, we don’t want the crime from Chicago coming to Wisconsin, but I’ve always gotten along with suburban Chicago residents, although some of them I would consider to be a little “elitist”. If you realize that in general, Wisconsin natives don’t love IL people, you’re welcome here 😂
I've dealt with it all my life. Originally from River Grove/Elmhurst area; we moved up here in 74. Wisconsin has very cliquey, snobby, small-minded people.
Jonathon Little, I commend you for not calling it Milwaukee Fest like most do from Chicago. Also, I definitely agree. Way better than the Taste of Chicago. Not even close. But Chicago's neighborhood festivals were always a great time with plenty of beer, great music, and damn good looking girls.
I used to live in Spring Green. Best area ever and I’d like to go back. Beautiful, scenic, and just plain awesome. Plus, it’s not too far from Madison for more city things.
From a Canadian Packers fan who visited Green Bay back in 2007, I kept hearing about Prairie du Chien and area while listening to Packers games online all season. Sounds like a nice area to visit in the future.
Trempeleau County is green, peaceful and amazing, and the annual 89 mile garage sale from Red Wing MN to La Crosse , following both sides of the Mississippi River is pretty much unforgettable. You'll want to bring a Uhaul and plenty of cash.
Cracking me up! I grew up in the Bronx and moved to WI as an adult. Worked in rural areas for years (cause that makes sense for a girl from the Bronx). Wisconsin people and communities are the best! Come visit!!
I was born and raised in Wisconsin and it's a beautiful and friendly place to live. Good farms, woods, lakes, and family friendly too! It will always be my home at heart.
As a Wisconsinite I can say that Wisconsin is actually a beautiful state depending on where you are in it. I went up north with my dad and brother once and in the woods there was a really beautiful pond stream thingy. The most beautiful thing I've ever seen. Highly recommend going up north in the woods. I’m from Illinois (about 75 miles west of Chicago) and is looking to live in Wisconsin one day. I want to be away from all the bad things but still be. Close to certain amenities and be by an interstate. I know Madison by itself is a little crazy but who’s cities such as Middleton, Fitchburg, sun, prairie, etc.
Lived in Illinois and spent summer vacations and long weekends in Wisconsin. You have to see the Dells at least once. Door County is a beautiful place. Love their fish boils. My favorite area was the north woods. We boated on the chain of lakes..very nice. Also great for bike riding on the extensive trails, snow mobiling and cross country skiing. Watched people ice fish. It's a wonderful state.
Milwaukee is actually a very safe city and tourists should not be afraid to come here. It has its pockets of crime, just like any big city, but if you visit downtown, the East Side, Bayview, or the Third Ward you will be just fine. Enjoy our beautiful city!
Stats don't lie. While tourists shouldn't be scared to go to Milwaukee for sure, that doesn't change the fact that is has a high murder rate and is dangerous compared to most American big cities.
@@joghammer8117 Any big city has problem areas. If you're dumb enough to go blindly in a big city and get lost you'll find out the hard way. If I took you on a tour of Milwaukee you'd be amazed. Friday night fish fry's, friendly folks and something to do year round. You can't get all in a weekend.
I live on the east side. It's terrible. We've been robbed, held at gunpoint, and see People shooting heroin in the alley all the time. Ain't what it used to be. Bayview is going in the sme direction. Third ward is hit or miss. The suburbs are better. Oak creek, whitefish Bay, Shorewood etc

I’m born and raised in Madison. The best part to live is West Madison or the suburban towns like Middleton (far west) or Sun Prairie (Far East) There has been an uptick of crime in the city but most instances are people with beefs targeting each other. For whatever reason east Madison has experienced some urban blight over the last 5 years which attracts more undesirable and homeless people. There is a large park that has been taken over as a small tent city by the homeless. The undesirable and homeless people are actually very friendly people that mind their own business, mostly because the social services in Madison is second to none and the help people with food and other needs. There is early planning to redevelop the blighted areas on the East side. The Madison government is very keen on keeping our city look pristine, unlike Other cities that are just let their towns completely fall apart. Example: The near east side was completely redeveloped with new hi rises, a music venue, bars and restaurants, a new minor league soccer team. there is new development going on as I write this and it’s inching closer to the Far East side.
@@jez6078 I lived in Sun Prairie for a minute. Right now, I live near Monona, which is decent around there. I briefly lived in Town of Madison at an apartment complex which is pretty ghetto.
Yep, I'm a FIB, and I DO LOVE WISCONSIN! The Milwaukee Art Museum, Riverwalk, Door County, Oconomowoc, Cedarburg, Student Union at UW Madison, up north, Fox Cities, Summerfest, Port Washington, Dells, cheese curds, beer cheese soup, snowmobiling, ice fishing, boating, brew pubs, supper clubs (with relish tray), biking trails, Holy Hill, Kettle Moraine, thousands of lakes, brats (met Mr. and Mrs. Stayer who founded Johnsonville Brats....nice down to earth folks), hundreds of lovely safe communities, national forests, and many beautiful miles of Lake Michigan shoreline. I am seriously considering retiring in Wisconsin. Then, I won't be a FIB but a proud resident of a great state.
I'm from Janesville, too, and I love all the improvements to our city. I remember as a kid in the 90s, a beautiful downtown with many people there, then completely died and left to rot. Fortunately, they're investing a lot into it now, and it's beautiful again.
I’m originally from Illinois. I also did a lot of vacations in Wisconsin. My parents had a vacation home built in 1979. I spent a lot of vacations from late 1979-1997 in that house. I even lived in the house, too. I have been living in the same apartment for little bit over 26 years. I have been living in Wisconsin almost my entire life. I liked to lived in Door County. At first when I started to make friends towards the natives in Door County. At first they thought that I was snobbish person from Illinois. They realized that I’m sweet and friendly person. You’ll be welcome with open arms. I’d recommend moving to Madison if you want an urban environment mixed with lots of trees and parks. Madison’s core is surrounded by two lakes (Mendota and Monona) Milwaukee is an ok urban city, but Madison’s job market and job diversity are much better than Milwaukee. It’s only a 45 minute drive to Milwaukee and 2 hour drive to Chicago.
I don't like urban/metro areas at all. I put my resume online and within 3 days was offered a job in the same field as I was currently working with double the pay. I moved to the Green Bay area. Everything is within a couple hours drive or less.
Lived all over Wisconsin, so extra excited to watch another Nick Johnson video! Edit: Nick, you did an amazing job on this video! And also, kudos for the Waukesha pronunciation. A few quick things: 1. Supper clubs are life in Wisconsin. The further north you go, the more prevalent they become. They aren't as popular with the younger crowds but still are pretty much life for Wisconsin folk. This is the same for people having cabins. It's not hard to find someone with a cabin up north, haha! 2. Don't move your family to West Allis (a lot of division), Racine (crime), or Neenah (creepy cult-like town). You'll thank me later. BUT these three do have some gems to make time for a quick visit. 3. Illinois people, thank you for appreciating our state but PLEASE stop moving here and trying to make our government like your garbage government. You like Wisconsin for a reason. Let's leave it that way. Thanks. 4. Ope, sorry. Forgot what I was gonna say here.
For real, Illinois ppl move here to be safer and avoid all the crimes from Illinois but they move here and do the same shit they ran away from 😣 🙄 they bring trouble 👿
Born and raised just outside of Madison here.. it's true Janesville and Beloit are trashy but there's several small towns surrounding those towns that are small, very conservative, have low crime and are great towns to raise a family.
Janesville and Beloit aren’t trashy. I also grew up in Dane county and lived there for 30 years, and moved to Rock county 18 years ago. I used to hold those same judgments about the cities in Rock county and they simply are not true.
Janesville really isn't that bad. Beloit definitely is. Being born and raised in Janesville, it definitely isn't the same as it was in the 90s, but the 90s were just a good time in general. Janesville is making a comeback after GM went under. Unfortunately, most of the crime is coming from people getting pushed out of Chicago. Madison used to be my favorite city, but that has become trashy and rampant with crime. Much more homeless than there used to be also. Liberal Madison is eating itself alive. I'll agree, though, the small towns are quiet, low crime, and super friendly. I love Janesville, but I'm hoping someday to move to Edgerton or Evansville. Those are great small communities!
I was born and raised half my childhood in Northwest Wisconsin. I busted out laughing when you mentioned the food groups for the state. Cheese, beer, and sauage is pretty much the main three foods everyone eats. I still have allot of relatives in the area. I live in Montana now and love that unboxing video you did on that state too. Good work Nick!
How could you NOT mention kringle?, Scandinavian foods, fish fry's, the cranberry industry, etc. Also, the outstanding universities, medical schools, . You offer a quite superficial view...
As a lifelong badger cheesehead, I thought you did a great job on this video! You even mentioned my town, Waukesha! It is a nice place to live. I was very impressed you pronounced all the city and county names correctly. Most people get confused by the Indian names. Anyway, Wisconsin is a great state and I appreciated a true depiction of my home. Thank you ❤️.
Parts of Milwaukee are fabulous, but other parts, especially on the north side, are downright dangerous. Most of the downtown area is very nice with some great restaurants and the new Deer District!
I live on the north side. The news doesn't depict it accurately. Plenty of quiet nooks just like the other sides of town. I lived on the southside a long time and a lot of stuff was left out of the news until it got so bad they had to start doing those stories too. I had to leave it was so bad you couldn't drive at night or go to the grocery store without constant worry about intoxicated people messing with you or crashing into you.
Love it. but as an upper midwest resident, I'm obligated to inform you that you incorrectly referred to the ashland/bayfield peninsula area as "superior" and the mellen/hurley/michigan border area as "ashland". City of superior is an hour west of Ashland. @1:19
@@Lifetalk849 that's a fabulous opinion. I lived in ashland for a bit and everyday I looked for excuses to go to duluth/superior. Ashland bayfield mellen is full of natural beauty but there's nothing to do in the area.
Thanks for making a video about the state I was born in.). Super awesome! Eau Claire is becoming more liberal due to its' proximity to the Twin Cities metro region of Minnesota and greater numbers of Twin Cities residents moving to this area to escape the growing crime rates, traffic, and increased cost of living there.
This video is pretty spot on for how WI is. I've lived here my whole life. And I'm pretty proud of our state. It is a great place to live. At least where I grew up in the state. And yes it's true we do love our cheese, brats, beer, and Packers.
Great job on Wisconsin! I lived in several cities within an hour of Milwaukee for 25 years. Went to college there and spent my prime beer drinking years there. After 8 years in TX, I'm definitely missing the midwest.
I've lived in Wisconsin since 1994. The drinking culture is alien to me, but there's a lot of cool things about the state. I live in the Fox Valley area (near Appleton). Lived for a few years in Stevens Point also. Good towns, lots of job opportunities (companies are BEGGING for workers, even offering sign on bonuses), decent cost of living around here. Low crime, air is clean, definitely four seasons. Housing costs aren't sky-high either.... but the property taxes here are. Lots of cultural activities (look up Appleton's Mile of Music, or Oshkosh's EAA AirVenture for a start).
A Wisconsinite who has a real feel n grasp of our Greatness can truly unbox us this state our place in space... It's a touristy take over looking much...
Ok, Iowa woman weighing in here. I’ve been to Wisconsin Dells dozens of times and yea it’s full of family friendly fun. Madison is beautiful. Rural SW Wisconsin is super beautiful and hilly, like giant hills with little towns deep in the valleys. North of Milwaukee has beautiful beaches and is my favorite place in the Midwest along the lake. Now Milwaukee, it’s rated as one of the most racist cities in the USA. It’s super segregated... a girl in Madison got set in fire last summer just driving in her car. the beer is in fact fantastic! I’m a beer snob, my hubby got me into crafted domestic beers and Wisconsin makes some of the best I’ve tasted! They also have great (yes cheesy) foods in Wisconsin that we don’t have in iowa. Wisconsin isn’t that boring actually, but I hope you like outdoor activities. Winter is long and snowy and cold, so you gotta learn to love it or you will be miserable lol.
That girl ended up getting in trouble for a fake story. She set her self on fire by accident and made a Jesse Smolet type story. That was the real story
Great stuff nick. Love these videos. As a person looking to move I wasn't really considering Wisconsin but know what I think about it I might keep in the back of my head. Not my 1st choice but seems really cool.
Yeah having studied at UWM for five years, being from rural Wisconsin, and even been to some places like Dubai MKE is still one of my favorite cities. It gets annoying how much people like to dump on Milwaukee, considering most of the people that say stuff like that probably haven't even lived there.

Sheboygan here also. We’re getting there slowly. Still takes it seems forever to get things done or built. Like the armory. It took 5 years to decide to level it, now another 5 years what to put there. Still overall, this is a good place to live
This video made me want to at least explore this great state, not sure about moving there though. It is stunning visually, kind of reminds me of Maine. Good Job Nick Johnson!!!
Hate to say it, but it's not that stunning compared to most states. Well depends what you're into I suppose. Much of the state is flat, mind you there are rolling hills scattered throughout. The southern part of the state is farmland. The northern part is forested. There is however a lot of rivers and lakes. We gotta be in the top 5 states with bridges, as there has to be at least one every mile of road. Lake Winnebago is huge, and you can stand in the middle of it, 5 miles from any shore thanks to sand bars.
1. Milwaukee is paradise from June through September. You don't need a coat in September. 2. There are some pretty high escarpments, bluffs, and hills in Wisconsin, but no true mountains. Rib Mountain in Wausau is the closest we have to a mountain. 3. Milwaukee is a coastal city, a river city and a pro sports city. That's a great combination.
Hi, I am african american from VA. One of my good coworker/ friends is a native of Wisconsin and we all love her dearly and get along well. My niece left VA yesterday, traveling to Wisconsin to work from September to November to administer the covid vaccine. She drove it in 1 day. We, her family really didn't want her to go but she did. I/WE pray that she does NOT encounter any problems and that her stay goes well. Her safety is very important to her family.
Absolutely Love Wisconsin. Never in my life did I imagine I'd be working for a Wisconsin Based company. Oh and by the way I think Milwaukee is a great town. Been all over the state. Best part of it is the people. No matter where you go the people are amazing. Plus Beer Cheese and Brats. I mean who doesnt like Beer, Cheese, and Brats? Cummon Man!!!
Nick's mention of Laverne and Shirley and Happy Days when talking about Milwaukee got a giggle out of me. Fun fact: if anyone goes on a tour of the backlot of Paramount Studios, a person can actually walk in the footsteps of Cindy Williams and the late Penny Marshall who were Laverne and Shirley since the show was filmed at Paramount.
I have lived in WI off and on for more than a few years and I absolutely hate it here. The winters are cold, the snow makes everything just awful and the streets are never plowed right. The expressways are death traps and a lot of the people are either rude or stuck up. Currently live in Madison. It does have some nice areas to walk, bike, fish and explore during the summer but don’t live on the north side of town because of high crime. Came to WI for family from IL but that didn’t exactly work out either, so I’m definitely looking to move and these videos are a huge help when trying to figure out where to move to that I think I might like better. Oh, and A+ for your sense of humor and singing 😁 Keep up the good work. Also, have you personally been to all these states?? If so, that’s amazing! Hope to one day be able to travel around the whole US

@@CB-rv2lj do you mind telling me more about Madison? Like if there's crime & homeless? I'm in PDX and it's bad around here.

I/WE pray that she does NOT encounter any problems and that her stay goes well. Her safety is very important to her family.
She'll be fine. What a nice gesture your friend is doing
@@NickJohnson , my niece. Only niece.
The Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest offers some of the best rustic camping in Wisconsin. Lots of cool waterfalls to find up north, eh?
Absolutely Love Wisconsin. Never in my life did I imagine I'd be working for a Wisconsin Based company. Oh and by the way I think Milwaukee is a great town. Been all over the state. Best part of it is the people. No matter where you go the people are amazing. Plus Beer Cheese and Brats. I mean who doesnt like Beer, Cheese, and Brats? Cummon Man!!!
Me. Cheese definitely, but not beer and brats.
I know Wisconsin for Happy Days and That 70’s Show.
Same here brother.
And monk, I think that was filmed here
Don’t forget Laverne and Shirley.
2004 dawn of the dead
There is a statue of the Fonz on the Riverwalk in Downtown Milwaukee.
That song at the end...I'm dying, I'm dying...LMAO! So bad, it's good.
Hope to one day be able to travel around the whole US
Sheila I have spent a few days in Wisconsin yes ;) hopefully you can travel soon too! Be safe.
Thank you, you as well! What video will you do next?
I hate it here too and I’m from here.
I love living in Wisconsin I’m from Fond du Lac and I’ve been here my whole life I couldn’t imagine living anywhere else. 🥰
Karen!

The Green Bay Packers is the thing I am proudest of. It's truly a unique institution and what we do best.
I recall when we moved from Illinois to Wisconsin, and I was in my freshman year in college, I kept getting called a "fib". I didn't know what that meant, but when i did, I was like "I ain't no fib, I was born in Dane County". They didn't seem to care.
I believe it. I used to work in Milwaukee, and the owner of the company found out I was from Illinois and was like “ooooh a FIB!”
I’m laughing… that was the first thing I thought of
Of COURSE! Even a short stay in Ill-on-noise infects you!
Hi Nick, Love all your videos. I was born and raised in Wisconsin but have lived most of my adult life in California. My dad’s from Green Bay so I still go there when in Wisconsin to visit my cousins. I was born in Milwaukee and lived there as well as other parts of Wisconsin. I heard you like haunted places so I suggest you stay at the historic Pfister Hotel in downtown Milwaukee which is supposed to be haunted. Most professional sports teams stay there which some players reportedly have seen ghosts.
You’re awesome, Nick. Keep up the good work.
We live in Illinois and love to escape to Wisconsin. They have amazing hiking / bicycling trails. It’s very peaceful. One of my road trip goals is to visit the Apostle Islands in Bayfield (northern - Lake Superior). The French Indians own a large part of that territory there and don’t like the independent ship companies. We mainly go to lake Geneva to Madison. Snake Road and the other rustic roads are stunning especially in the autumn. The lakes are very beautiful
hi
For some reason, I thought you already did this. Also could you unbox Missouri or Arkansas soon?
Yes
It's my request last month.
"I wanna vacation in Beloit!"- No One, Ever.
😂🤣!
Aahahahaha , theyre missing out 😁
As a lifelong resident of Wisconsin this video is pretty accurate. I love Wisconsin our grand ole badger state and will always be my home.
Glazing over the fox cities is a crime! Grew up in appleton and its my favorite place in the world!
Wow. This video was just in my "suggested video" list. Excellent video sir, from a native sconnie. You eamed a new sub, and I'm now binging your unboxing stuff.
Boom!! Jayke ❤️❤️

"Waukesha is a great place to live" Well, that's debatable...
yah, hey?
Sure if you white male and republican.
Yep, hard pass for me.
I lived in Stone Lake, near Hayward, for a couple years. It was paradise. I didn't want to leave.
