In my opinion he isn't. You should never have someone with dementia living on their own and she needs a power of attorney to handle her finances. She's a sitting duck out in the community for all manner of predators.
My neighbors were caught by one of these criminals. He sold them new windows for $9,000 even though they had only got new windows fitted two months previously. The guy was so insistent and intimidating that they just give in! It cost a further $3,000 to have them fitted, and their newly fitted windows were taken away by the window fitters. The old man died shortly after, and the old lady had to sell the house. Then a newly married couple moved in. And one of the first things they did was replace the windows.

That adjustment sometimes takes only 2 minutes to complete on a multipoint lock, if even that long.. or even if the Multipoint lock has completely ceased to function, it's only £100 or so to entirely replace it.. and the handle can be replaced for £10 and it's only 2 scews with ready made holes, that's a 30sec job.. £6,000 Pound for two doors?! What the bloody hell were they going to be made of? Solid gold, coated with diamonds, and the queens tears? Fuck sake. The son did a great job here keeping this professional.
As someone who had a stint in door-to-door sales, this is disgusting. We had a strict code of conduct when dealing with elderlies and if we saw or suspected any red flags that would give a hint of vulnerability we would leave them in piece. Sad that people like this ruin a profession that is tough, but can be very rewarding and teach valuable skills.
I work in sales, we are told we are not allowed to sell anyone that seems mentally impaired. Why? Because if they are, and we sell them its easy for the contract to be voided. Mentally impaired also includes temporary impairment, such as being drunk.
For sure. When there's something I really need, that I can't live without, that's absolutely fundamentally necessary for my wellbeing, I wait for someone to come to the door and offer it to me. Why shop around and consider my options when some guy is telling me it's good? That's maybe a bit harsh, and I'm sure that some door-to-door salespeople are honest brokers providing a much needed product, but unfortunately the profession seems to offer a lot of rewards to people who are willing to be unscrupulous
I hope my son has my back when I am this age! It’s really amazing how we take care of our kids when they are little and they take care of us when we are old!
What's unfortunate is that many people have children with the sole reasoning that they will otherwise have no one to take care of them when they're old, as if children are some kind of investment you make with the obligation of returns later on. Then it's the child's fault for putting them in a home when he/she can't wait on them hand and foot amidst the busy lives we all have to live these days just to afford a roof over our heads and food on the table. I'm one of 5, so my mom is fortunate enough to have that luxury once she hits that stage of life. Many aren't so lucky.

I agree to an extent that if an elderly family member suffers from dementia you should take some form of control, having a grandmother that suffers from it. However, this comment seems pretty insensitive to the fact that that sales companies prey on people with dementia because not every person om the planet has the time and/or resources to provide that level of care for that member/multiple members of family.
