Forma Adventure Low Motorcycle Boot For Street Riding?

  • The Forma Adventure Low motorcycle boot is marketed toward off-road style riding, but I wanted to see if it makes a good boot for street riding. I was looking for a hiking style boot I could still walk in, with good waterproofing, a decent tread, and protection in a fall. This leather boot seemed to fit the bill, and after a few rides it seems to be breaking in and becoming more comfortable.

    Once the boots break in and you’re used to them, these are actually a pretty comfortable boot. When new there was a little difficulty shifting, but I don’t notice any difficulty now. I use mine on the street and commute to the office twice a week. Wear them eight hours at work and about three hours of riding total.

    Thanks for bringing these to my attention, these look great. Love the easy on, easy off straps. In California, I alway take off my boots at rest stops to let my feet - and boots - get fresh air, I pack flip flops. And riding in rain...not even a gold wing has protection. Youre right, $220 is not a bad price.

      They do pop off quickly. If you are putting on or taking off rain paints or over-pants that's another reason the quick release straps are helpful.

    Thanks for your nice review.
    I am riding a lot, around 40.000 km a year, but 100% on-road.
    I am going to get new shoes, I have few options, being this model one of my first options.
    I have got 2 pair of shoes. These ones will be for mid-season.
    Thanks & Ride In Peace.

      Same here, only this will be my winter boots with heavy shocks and they'll be worn 10hrs a day.
      I'm only worrying that they may be a pain in fast gear changes but i guess i'll just have to try and see.
      If you got them already and have an opinion on this please let me know

    I ride a Triumph Thunderbird Storm cruiser and I have had these boots for 3 years now, and I have always liked them. Not particularly warm but good with sole warmers.
    I had to adjust the gear change shifter up on the splines, I have big feet. Winter before last I started to lowside on a slow corner and kicked out with my right leg, bad idea but I saved the bike and have always credited these boots for not having my ankle broken. My leg looked like a giraffe's neck with bruises from shin to inner thigh.
    I would recommend sizing up one size for those with wide feet or will be riding in the winter.

      Wow, good to know the protection is there! The sizing can be tricky with the European standard versus American sizes. I was a good match with my smaller size, but riders with bigger sizes could take your advice.

    You mentioned that you didn't know what the little silver triangular piece was for. They are to stop a stray twig or rock from accidentally striking the buckle and inadvertantly opening it.

    i just got these yestereday and when i tested these out earlier, it felt difficult to shift gears on my rebel 500 (my shoes are size 11 US) and i was worried it would be difficult to ride on these for the next year or so but when you mentioned that these would break in soon i felt relieved. i definitely feel protected but i need to get used to the new positioning of my foot whenever im about to shift up a gear.

    • @tinderboxarts
      @tinderboxarts  2 года назад

      Your bike may have an adjustment for the shifter spacing if you need it. Some bikes do, some don't. But, I think you'll find that you'll become accustomed to the difference with a little more riding.

    I bought Forma Adventure Boots (the high version) for my off-road dual sport riding and also use them for my street riding on my R1200RT. These boots have seen some heavy use and they remain my boot of choice for on or off road. Not only a great boot for riding but they are comfortable walking as well. Love them!!

      Interesting that you bring this up now, because it is on my mind. I did another video you should watch (ruclips.net/video/273n9hb-2H0/видео.html) comparing the TCX Baja boot with the Forma version. I actually like the TCX better because it fits my foot better. However, I just found out that TCX has discontinued that model! So that leaves the Forma and maybe one or two other manufacturers offering a similar boot. The Forma is a good quality boot, and you will get plenty of use out of a pair. The toe box size is annoying to some riders, but not to others. The waterproof nature of the boot will probably fail after a couple-few years. My son got three years out of his before they started to leak. The walkability is still limited, you're not going to go on a long hike with these, but for getting off the bike and stretching around town they're fine. Really my only minor complaint is the fit regarding the toe box size, and that's a very personal thing.

    The membrane (Gore-Tex knock off) also is breathable, keeping feet dry as moisture is pushed though the fabric and leather. Another big plus with the membrane is it’s wind proof, which contributes to preventing heat loss. Infrared pictures are very telling with and without, this is not a commonly known attribute.

    • @tinderboxarts
      @tinderboxarts  4 года назад

      Yes, good point. The windproofing is a big deal as far as staying warm on longer rides.

    I have some Falco Mixis ,which is almost exactly the same style but alot cheaper (at least in the UK) those Formas alook better Style wise but I would still buy the Falcos..I think you get used to the toe height of the boot after a few miles..I used my boot on all sorts of different riding, be it off road on my Royal Enfield or touring on my BM RT...I wholeheartly agree regarding the tread,,riding my RT which is a heavy bike you do,nt want your foot slipping,thats just plain dangerous.As for walking ...well they ain,t know trainer,,they are not the best and if you are wearing thick socks like I was yesterday then it not best going shopping for your wife birthday present ,did not walk far ,infact not passed the pub,,will try again today...I started watching your clips because of the BM content,,I ,v enjoyed very much so have subbed ,Cheers

    I have the Forma Terra Evo low's, which I mostly used for street riding on an xsr900.... kinda needed to get used to it while shifting gears, and had to raise the shifter a little. What bike do you use? Maybe you can raise its shifter a tad bit.

    Do you have a long term update on these boots? I want for street riding too with ability to walk... Most moto boots just seems to have bad tread and that will wear out before the rest of the boots... Made that way so you have to buy new boots... How was arch support (common complaint).... How have they held up? Did they soften up some on break in?

    • @tinderboxarts
      @tinderboxarts  2 года назад

      My son has these boots too, and he routinely walks around in them. I don't like long walks in them myself, though. I find them a little stiff and a little clumsy for walking long distances. I'll wear my TCX X-Blend boots (which I also reviewed) when I know I'll be doing some walking. That said, the Forma Low boot is the one I'll wear for cold weather, rain, or long rides where the likelihood of a slide is greater. So, it probably depends on your feet and fit. If you've had problems with boots before in relation to walking, I'd push you toward the X-Blend instead, which is very comfortable and which wears in nicely.

    • @tinderboxarts
      @tinderboxarts  3 года назад +1

      Yes, I've had a good experience with them to date. I do tend to wear them more often in winter because there's enough extra room in the toe area for thick socks or toe warmers. They have broken in somewhat as far as the stiffness, but I wouldn't go hiking in them. They are fine for walking around short distances, though. My other boots give a little more "feel" as far as shifting, but I get used to these in a couple of shifts when I put them on. They are holding up well.

    • @tinderboxarts
      @tinderboxarts  3 года назад +1

      No, I think these are too stiff to be comfortable walking all day. And the big toe box would become annoying being on your feet. However, I did a review on a different boot that I think might work for you. It looks and feels more like a street shoe, but it laces up well over the ankle for support. They seem to get more comfortable with time: ruclips.net/video/O4SKUpKV6SU/видео.html

      They have held up well. I have two pairs of boots, the other pair I wear around town and these Forma boots I typically use on longer trips or in the winter. Granted, I did much less riding during covid, but I've had no issues with them. My son wears them too, and he's been wearing them exclusively for several years now.

    • @tinderboxarts

      You can fit jeans over the Forma Adventure low, but it is a tight fit. I wear motorcycle jeans which have a little stretch to them, and that helps. My other boots are the TCX X-blend, which looks almost like a street boot. My review of those is here: ruclips.net/video/O4SKUpKV6SU/видео.html

      @@tinderboxarts Haha. The TCX X-Blend, the Baja mid and the Forma are what I'm deciding between. Which do you think is the most comfortable for you? Thanks.

    • @tinderboxarts
      @tinderboxarts  3 года назад +1

      The TCX X-blend are the most comfortable, especially for walking when off the bike. Some riders don't like having laces, but that's what allows you to fine tune the fit to make it comfortable. The lace bow is hidden under your pants anyway. The X-blend are breaking in nicely. The Forma low is not uncomfortable, but for longer walks they become annoying. Once on the bike there isn't that much difference, but the X-blend definitely allows for more subtle shifting. The Forma low boot can feel clunky with the big toebox, but the X-blend feels like a direct connection with the shifter. Come winter, though, I'd rather have the forma low!

      I know what you mean, although I've had plenty of cemented soles which worked fine over time. When waterproofing is the goal, the stitched sole may not be the most desirable.
