    You can walk around comfortably in motocross boots after they're broke in. I had a pair of thor quadrant that became so broken in and comfortable, I kept wearing them just for casual walking.

    I have a pair of Alpine tech 3's. That second lowest buckle might give you guys problems. It cuts into the top of my foot if my foot bends up, and I can definitely see it causing my foot to break in a high speed somersault. I keep that buckle much looser than I think it was designed to be to avoid this. The new tech 3's have done away with that particular buckle. I think 3 buckle designs are probably better.

    I am a novice at riding bikes, but I love bending wrenches on them. My dad had me ride (and fix) a few bikes through my teens, so I know the barebones basics about how they work, how to shift, and how to balance (smooth clutch release is still on the class syllabus! Haha) but I have almost no experience actually riding on anything moderate or extreme. What should I expect from doing singletrack once I get to that level of expertise? (PS: I ride bikes like a grandpa!) Also, I Just bought some Tech 10s dipped in 'Murica, and they are really comfortable. Using them tomorrow when I go with my dad for a second major expedition into the Utah trail system.
    Your video was excellent, by the way, I hope you do more like them.

    • @getawaymoto2495
      @getawaymoto2495  6 лет назад +2

      I wish I was out in Utah!! Hopefully, we will be out there soon. As for what to expect.... it depends! Depends on the trail and the bike, the weather, etc... My big pointers are staying loose on the bike, it doesn't want to go down any more than you do. don't fight it. Learn to ride standing up, it will give you more control. Last but not least, ride your own ride. If you are not comfortable with a section of trail or a technical part is beyond your abilities. find a way around or choose a different trail. have fun!! (I know this is a late response and you have probably figured this out already. Sorry about that!!)

    Just picked my first bike , 2019 Suzuki DR 650 . Was running a little late while checking out the gear . As for the boots I went with the Fox Comp 5 . They aren't waterproof but seem to have a fair amount of flex and protection . Also the knee/shin protectors actually fit decently inside about 3"-4" from the top of the boots . The knee protectors have these nice flanges so with that the whole lower leg looks to be well protected from impacts falls ect. After seeing a yours and others boot reviews I can see some other nice options .
    Tomorrow is call the Motorcycle beginner riding course , schedule and finish that and then go get "legal" .
    Also will try on everything I got and verify if I made the right decisions . Already know I like the Just 1 helmet and the gloves so we will see . Sorry about your leg . I pray I don't have to go through that or worse . Some years back I was mountain biking this trail that skirts along the fence line of this restricted watershed . It goes for about 4-5 miles of mixed track mostly single . Well going down this short steep turn that has a water diversion log in the turn you need to time your wheelie/jump just right or else . On this day I timed it wrong , didn't lift enough and knew I was screwed . I landed to far forward on the front tire and had to bail off instantly or my head would have hit first . I had all my gear on . When I let go of the bike I grabbed at the thinner trees to break my fall but there was a pungee like tree stump that was like a spear . Thank God i had my chest protector on as I did get jabbed pretty good by it . When I recovered myself and stood back I saw what could have happened . That thing would have at least broke my sternum and if my grip failed I would probably have been killed .
    I grabbed that friggin thing and wrenched it back and forth until it snapped and I bent it away from the trail , that wasn't going to be an issue for the next guy that messed up .
    Things could be far worse if I mess up on a trail with something 340 lbs heavier and 20-50 mph faster . I am going to be Mr. Slowski until I get very proficient and comfortable riding this machine . Take care now and I'll check out your next video .

For someone looking to get into riding dual sport (I hope to get a DRZ400), what level of protection is adequate in terms of riding boots. My thinking is either get something like the Gaerne balanced oil or TCX drifter (can wear them on and off the bike), or get something along the lines of an enduro style boots and bring my hiking boots. Any thoughts on this?

In hindsight, he did have practidal review points worth watching. What I am curious about and wish somebody would answer is there a difference between trail riding boots and highway riding boots?

    • @oklahomahank2378
      @oklahomahank2378 3 года назад

      Trail boots have a stiffer upper and sole, and usually have more plastic armor. Obviously you can wear them on the Highway and be more protected, but you pretty much have to take them off to walk in and get a hamburger. Most trail riders prefer non waterproof boots for breathability. For long distance riding you do want waterproof boots.

    • @getawaymoto2495
      @getawaymoto2495  2 года назад +1

      Not really trying to be masculine. Lol. More lighthearted entertainment. Oh well, different strokes for different folks. I am glad you liked some of the info though!!!
      As for trail vs road, trail boots tend to have more crush/impact protection vs road boots that tend to lean more towards slide protection and abrasion resistance.

    Planning to buy these. How is the built & quality on these ? How is the waterproof layering holding up ? What life do ya expect for these in terms or touring & mild off-roading ? Considering the specs I guess these are one of the best in terms of Looks/Protection/Comfort/Waterproofing out there in the market. I had TCX Baja GTX, Forma Terra Adv & AS tech 7 enduro also on mind. Which ya think will be an all season touring boot with good protection as well as life. ? Pulling out of a parking lot on a big heavy cruiser, about 10 mph. Floorboard scraped and something grabbed the outside of my foot, twisted it, broke tibia and fibula. Went down when I stopped and tried to put my foot down. Ankle was fine. Rods and screws. Any sort of boot to keep your foot from twisting your leg in half?

      Well, unfortunately twisting is hard to prevent. The most effective options I have seen are boots with internal hard ankle braces like the Astar tech10.

      Skinny Binny that is a hard question to answer. Could be lucky and walk away unscathed, could sprain or break it, or could get ripped clean off. Lots of variables contribute to injury.

    can I wear mc boots on street bikes?

    • @getawaymoto2495
      @getawaymoto2495  2 года назад +1

      You can, but I prefer the dexterity of dedicated road boots, depending on what I am riding. What you are wearing will also limit what boots you run on the road. Things like full leathers, Kevlar jeans, and any shin/leg protection might limit your boot options.
