- Join me for a little historical tour of the town of Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie in the Vendee Region of France. We'll tour the narrow streets, learn about the 17th century architecture, and of course the Sardine trade! A special treat for me was to visit also to La Maison du Pecheur, the fisherman's house to learn more about what life was like in this early fishing town.

Sweet Beth. You are so kind to put all the work in that you do, to include us all and share your wonderful experiences. I love all your videos but this one was particularly interesting. I’d like to go to Paris someday, but this really makes me want to explore these beautiful little towns. It’s funny how recent studies are showing how sardines are so healthy for us. My Mom used to pack sardines in mustard sauce in my lunch box when I was in elementary school. I loved them but my teacher told me to tell my Mom not to send them anymore because they stunk up the place. I haven’t had sardines in years and this video makes me want to go get some. Again, thank you for putting in so much effort to share your beautiful life!! ❤
Oh my word I love that story of your mom! How amazing that she put sardines in your lunchbox! And yes, you’re right there’s all these amazing health benefits with them! You definitely should reconnect with your love of sardines they’re quite good with a very chilled glass of white wine, on little toasts with lots of salty butter! 💕🐟

Thank you Beth, I felt through this whole series like I was on vacation. My husband is recovering from surgery so it was so nice to have these to watch. In our little town which is on a harbor here in NY there are walls and foundations built with ballasts . I sat and showed my 10 year old granddaughter the segment on the cooking school in Tuscany , it held her full attention ( amazing ) and we decided when she’s 12 we will go! Thank you so much. You see you have brought my family so much joy!
Aww I love knowing that! And yes 12 years old is a great time to go! I think you all would have the trip of a lifetime! But go hungry because the meals are amazing and never stop LOL! So glad the series has been enjoyed by your family!

Oh, what a another treat, Beth! Another wonderful summer of fabulous content. The sardine tins look fabulous! They would be wonderful souvenir/gifts. I loved all the hollyhocks growing in little patches of dirt along the streets!
Oh yes! Those are my favorites too! They grow all over this part of France and it’s amazing how they need so little dirt to thrive! They just grow in the streets and in the cracks of the buildings it’s amazing!
I can NOT believe how fast the Summer went BUT Beth you made it so beautiful, perfect, and charming with all of your excursions, and best of all I WENT ALONG!! The town of Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie is the perfect backdrop for a fantastic vacation far from the madding crowd with its quaint byways, streets, shops, and restaurants. The Catholic Basilica Notre-Dame de la Garde in Marseille, France, known locally as La Bonne Mère has boats and nets hanging from the ceiling as well as AIRPLANES, not sure why the planes. I would love to be able to purchase La Perle sardines. but I can not find it here online😥😥 Phillippe is such a gentleman and funny too..be safe in your travels with your family. Bisous 😘😘
Oh, that’s so interesting! I’ve only seen them in the seaside towns on the Atlantic that’s good to know it exists in the south as well! There is an airport in Marseille, so maybe plane is there to represent loved ones who have lost their lives due to plane crashes? What a wonderful touch. I have to laugh at Philippe because looking back when we went to Paris together on our first trip to France over 25 years ago I’m remembering it was HIM that showed me the difference in chairs telling me the reclined ones were the way to go, so in that respect he created his own little monster ha ha ha!

Yes, once there’s nobody here in LA that needs us anymore that is the plan! Or to just continue to split our time between both but as I get older, the sweetness of a small village life with a much slower pace is definitely more appealing than a big city like LA! 💕👌
I loved seeing the "other side" of town. How striking with the whitewashed building, tile roofs and pretty blue doors and shutters! It must be a universal sort of thing as I've seen so many pictures and films and videos of Greece with the same color scheme in their small fishing villages. I haven't been lucky enough to visit to see for myself!

Yes, it’s so interesting to see the similarities between seaside towns throughout the world! I haven’t been to Greece but it’s definitely on the bucket list. My husband has been and he says it’s wonderful and I would love it too! Can’t wait to experience that someday.!

Yes, it was a very productive trip. We visited six schools and three are really good choices. So fingers crossed. She gets into one of them and then next summer will be another whirlwind getting her ready to move over there! Wish us luck! 😘🤣

Oh yes we used to do Christmas in France in Nantes with my husband’s family, before we had kids we would do every other year and it was so wonderful. But now that the kids have come to know Christmas in LA it’s been hard to sell them on going to France and leaving their grandparents behind ha ha ha (we’ve tried to bring them, but they don’t like the cold!) but maybe one day for sure it would definitely be fun to share with you guys because there are some lovely Christmas traditions in France!
