This song always makes me cry. I remember playing Metal Gear Solid at age ten then playing MGS4 in 2004. Playing Old Snake and watching him struggle to complete his mission tore me apart. It sucks seeing your favorite video game character growing old and dying.
+JayPix1992 (James) Otacon: "Wow, Snake, you're incredible. Like an action movie hero or something." Snake: "No, you're wrong. In the movies, the hero always saves the girl..."
Something about seeing Raiden, Snake and Otacon being together awaiting the suicide Gekkos was such genius. Being the concluding game in the series, you could FEEL everything coming to a head. Raiden and Snake together in this scene topped it off, in a way i can't really explain.
Otacon: You're amazing... Like a movie hero or something Snake: you're wrong, in the movies the hero always saves the girl Otacon: You mean...meryl? I am sorry. But forget what I said... Snake! There's one thing I have to ask you... it's the real reason I came here... have you... ever fallen in love with anyone? Snake: What if you came here to ask me this? Otacon: No... I was wondering, if soldiers fall in love too. Snake: What are you trying to say? Otacon: Well, do you think love can be born even in battle? Snake: Yes, I believe it. I believe... that at any time, in any place... two people can fall in love, BUT... IF YOU LOVE SOMEONE, YOU MUST BE ABLE TO PROTECT THEM. Otacon: I think so too. Capitalization, punctuation and everything I used is how I remembered the speech, if I'm wrong or I missed something sorry, ps. I was crying as I wrote it.
"You haven't even taken the safety off, rookie." -Solid Snake "I'm back from a world where such words are meaningless." -Gray Fox "Snake, it's my turn to protect you..." -Raiden
This scene really hit me. I didn't like Naomi that much but I felt so sad for Otacon. He lost his mother in MGSV, his crush in MGS, his sister in MGS2 and his lover in MGS4 yet he never stopped fighting
PSpainter I'm not so sure I'd say Sniper Wold and Naomi were "innocent." Both scenes leading up to their deaths were essentially final confessions of all the wrong's they'd committed in their lives. Wolf "took her revenge on the world" by killing people on the battlefield, after tormentingly watching them through a sniper scope. And Naomi, among other things, created Vamp, who'd done nothing but destroy lives. I'd say this song captures the final death-sighs of monsters, who realize what they'd done and felt remorse, but at the same time humanizes them, and makes us realize that under similar circumstances, we'd probably react no better than they did...
Wolf i feel was in the right. She was hunted down. A child soldier. NATO and the UN. Countries that were supposed to help them. Ignored them. So she did what she needed to survive. When she was free. She hunted down those who were her targets. No one else. She fought because she had a very bad childhood. Imagine being in that situation. Now being free of that hell. And given the opportunity to take revenge on those who chose to leave you to die.
to me this is the best game series of all times. the story is so deep, the characters are perfect and the themes so good as well. an absolute masterpiece. mgs4 was stunning. cant even count anymore how often i played it through.
This started playing and I was too busy looking at the suicide Gekkos to listen to the music but when I did it reminded me of something. Then near the end I remembered it played when Sniper Wolf died and I was like: Damn your feels Kojima.
I actually started to cry when otacon turned away from sunny and he cried, and then he said that snake had a hard life. Fuck me man, that was one of the sadest things i have ever seen. Damn you kojima and your feels.
"Everyone dies. You can't stop it, you can't run away from it." - Big Boss. No, really man, Metal Gear Saga alrady has over 8 games, but Entire Saga never dies.
OMG this is so depressing... but simply intense and beautiful. Makes this game so special and awesome. Saying that this music is epic simply isn't enough... can't describe it with plain words. MGS is more than a game ^^ ... so much power in it!
as a 22 year old, this still gives me goosebumps. I remember playing this when I was around 10 years old or so. This is still the single greatest game I have ever played and likely ever will. It was complete in every way. The soundtrack, coherent (well for mgs) storyline, amazing gameplay, incredible graphics for the time, unbelievable voice acting for the time... it was the full immersive experience. I haven't found a single game that comes close. Not even MGS 2/3. The Witcher 3 was incredible. But NO WHERE near as magical as MGS1. Now games are released half finished, with the priority placed on DLC and battle pass sales. Games will never be the same. Gaming has died. To produce a triple A game now is too expensive for an indie company. I'm so thankful to have been introduced to MGS from an early age.
I'd never before heard this version. I only ever played MGS back in the late 90s at its release, but "Enclosure" has long since been one of my favorite pieces of PS1-era game music. Thanks for letting me experience it in a new way! :D
Oh my, I am bawling my eyes out. I havent played the whole series for a while, but got it still gets me. I think its because i grew up with the games, got the first mgs when i was 9, and on from there. I will sit here and cry now....
MGS, 1998 Otacon:What are you doing? Snake:Returning it to it's owner. I do not need the handkerchief Otacon: Why..? Snake: I don't have any tears to shed. MGS 4, 2008 Otacon: Snake, I made up my mind. I am not crying anymore. I don't have any tears to shed.
MGS1 Otacon: What are you doing? MGS1 Snake: Returning it to its owner. I don’t need a handkerchief. MGS1 Otacon: Why? MGS1 Snake: I don’t have anymore tears to shed. MGS4 Otacon: You’re right. I haven’t lost everything yet. I’ve still got a job to do. MGS4 Snake: That’s right. We need you. MGS4 Otacon: I’m done crying. I don’t have anymore tears to shed.
I've played and completed both MGS1 and 4 more times than I can remember... Yet I feel terrible knowing that I didn't notice this remastered version in the game! Dem feels though.
As a child, I insulted Otacon as a whimpy Otaku High Tech. But as an adult. Suck to be Otacon. To live and watch one he loved died. The man just wants someone to be loved and to love.
The life of Solid Snake is so tragic as the whole storyline of MGS itself. But I guess that Hideo Kojima ended the story perfectly, and he tried to show with the story of Snake that even if someone isn't supposed to save the world or to be alive at all or having a decent human life (like Snake) the courage and the strong will are the things that can really make you a hero.
An amazing reprise this song is.. Hearing this in MGS4 took me back to when I first played Metal Gear Solid on playstation.. And I remembered when Meryl died and Otacons speech.. "Snake, People die.. But death is not defeat."

I think Naomi's death was unnecessary in MGS4. She could have at least tried to escape with the others on REX, and spend the last period of her life with the poor Otacon. What the fuck, Hideo. You must really hate women.
Damn! So awesome!!! Probably the most tragic moment in a videogame... That's what so great about MGS! It's not just a simple game like others... While other videogames have about 50% emotional state, MGS has 100%! Noone can compete against Hideo Kojima! Because other developers create just simple videogames... This song is really amazing!!!
They couldn't keep it running. Server power took tremendous amount of energy and resource. Plus you can't keep something like that running forever. What people fail to realize is that it's not like an Xbox game that was run via remote Xbox servers (usually hosted by gamers themselves) It was a system inside the game that was directly handled by Konami and not Sony/Microsoft. All online servers end up going offline due to the sheer amount of resources it needs to carry it on.
"i became a sniper hidden, watching everything through a rifle's scope, now i coul see the war not from inside but from the outside, as an observer i watched the brutality the stupidity of mankind through the scope of my rifle."
And only 5 games have ever managed to do it to me. 1) Metal Gear Solid 2) Metal Gear Solid 2 3) Metal Gear Solid 3 4) Metal Gear Solid 4 5) The Last Of Us That really says a lot about how good Kojima is
I was listening to this while waiting for my final score to show up and saw I had unlocked all the MGS4 trophies. I threw a triumphant fist in the air as the final epic music kicked in and the platinum appeared!
This song always makes me cry. I remember playing Metal Gear Solid at age ten then playing MGS4 in 2004. Playing Old Snake and watching him struggle to complete his mission tore me apart. It sucks seeing your favorite video game character growing old and dying.

Only someone who had played MGS1 too much to remember since 1998 could appreciate how emotionally painful this piece of music is.

Director: YES.
Something about seeing Raiden, Snake and Otacon being together awaiting the suicide Gekkos was such genius. Being the concluding game in the series, you could FEEL everything coming to a head. Raiden and Snake together in this scene topped it off, in a way i can't really explain.
Concluding...their making a new one. :P
Jays Neonlight It was the last one chronologically in the Solid Snake arc, though.
***** big boss dies at the end so aside from raiden theres no more character arcs
I agree so much
+GamingWithOpinions there is. John, Raiden's son. He may follow his father's path.
Otacon "Snake what was she fighting for? What am I fighting for? What are you fighting for?" Snake "If we make it through this I'll tell you"
Otacon: "ok" Friend: Dammit otacon.
And that's what he did, and that's why Philantropy has been created
The most badass part in Metal Gear, well maybe not but it’s up there

Hideo Kojima should start directing movies
seriously that's what I think too.
He used to. Then he got into the game business
Øivind Magnus Børtveit
Hells yeah, if they do a MGS movie Kojima needs to be director no doubt
Based on his works, no doubt they call him Steven Spielberg of video games

Yea, the whole game series, the story of Snake, is truly soul touching.

I think that Metal Gear Solid has one of the best story lines throughout all games... Hatsoff
Damn MGS4 had an amazing fucking sound, I’m so glad they remade this song.
