Thank you for this video! Mine was the passenger side circuit board. Thanks to you, the brake lights on my 2003 Chevy Trailblazer EXT now work again and I can pass inspection this week, which will allow us to go pick up my Mom across the state for Christmas so that she isn't alone. Not only was your video easy to follow, but you also took what can be a stressful situation for many people and made everything much better with your humor and overall likeable personality. This is one of the most valuable videos I have ever seen on RUclips. Merry Christmas! EDIT- For anyone who can't find the piece of cloth to pull out your drivers side middle seat to find your fuse box, you may have a version without it and instead you will use the black plastic recline mechanism like you would on the passenger side seat.
Thank you again, I checked my lights this morning and both brake bulbs were lightly melted on the base. I had already checked the bulbs ( I thought) and saw no problem. After watching your video, I went back and found the problem immediately. I went to the parts house and picked up two new circuit boards for $16.00 each, now I have two working brake lights again. You saved me probably $150. or more, by being able to do it myself. I appreciate you taking time to help others !!
Dude!!!!!!! I don't know you and you don't know me..... BUT THIS HERE VIDEO SAVED ME SOME TIME AND A WHOLE LOT OF CASH. I couldn't figure out the problem. I was going to take my truck to an electrician. That was going to be sooooooooooo expensive. But you saved me. Thank God for you sir!!!!!! Have a blessed day.
This procedure does the job! My 2002 Trailblazer had these symptoms, and it turned out that a body shop had replaced the taillight sockets and circuit board assembly with a non-OEM part that failed. But there's more! A few months earlier, the cruise control had stopped working, as had the "GM Oil Life Sensor" that is reset by depressing the brake pedal three times after an oil change. Replacing these boards fixed all three of the problems - brake lights returned, cruise control returned, and oil life sensor reset confirmed. Three problems fixed for $30!!!

Fixed car problem this morning. 2004 Trailblazer both fuses were good but on circuit board both top lights (which you explained were brake lights) were fry’d causing bad bulbs and I guess damaging both boards. Got replacement boards, 1 from Autozone and 1 from Oreilly like you said who sold them. Everything works great now. Thanks Again for all of your help and well explained video.
Thank you a thousand times over. I got stopped after work like a day or two ago, cop was a real sweetheart, just told me I didn’t have ANY lights except the center brake light. Found out today that for me it’s both circuit boards & 5 of the 6 lights were affected. (cause my passenger REVERSE LIGHT WORKS)
Thanks for taking the time to make this video. Even though all of my fuses were fine, and my bulbs were not blown, both tail light assemblies had a tint of brown scorching around the brake light sockets. I replaced both bulbs and my tail lights work, but I went ahead and ordered two new tail light assemblies (part number 16532713 Tail Lamp Circuit Board) and spare bulbs.
I have same problem with 2009 Chevy Equinox, alas, this isn't the solution for me as mine doesn't have the circuit boards on each side. Woe is me, what to do? EXCELLENT VIDEO. I had the fuse/circuit board combo issue as well. Since circuit board was old (probably original) i replaced it first without knowing it was the issue. It did have the melty thing going on so I figured something was jacked up anyway. ..Then replaced the fuee and we're back in business. Many thanks. Saved $$$ by not taking it in to service station.
Amazing video! Very professional 🎉 although I tried all of these things and no luck. All of my bulbs are working, my only issue is that when I hit the brakes I get no brakelights. Going to have to check the brake pedal button next.

Thanks for posting this video! Recently had the exact same problem on my '05 Trailblazer with 156,000 miles. The top bulb on both rear lights was melted to the electrical panel and left/right rear fuses were blown. Purchased two new GM panels and installed die electric grease in all connections. Hoping the grease will help prevent the plastic bulb base from melting in the future. It's been two weeks, and all is working well.

You are awesome! My 07 blazer brake lights haven’t worked since I bought it from an auction. I asked a few male mechanics I know if they could tell me what I needed to do to fix this but all said it was probably a fuse in one of the three spots. Tonight I found your video n watched, did what you said and it wasn’t fuses. It was the brake light circuit board in mine also. Thanks again. This video was simple to follow n I did by myself. I appreciate that a lot.

I know this is an old video and I know you might not see this but if both are out and it’s not fuses or bulbs on either is it just a wiring problem? Or should I replace both circuit boards?
You could use a volt meter to see if there’s any power to both sides at the rear drivers and passengers brake lights. If there is, I would start with the driver’s side circuit board first. 😉👍
Hi Thanks for your video was helpful we are having the same problem with my 2003 Chevy Trailblazer we've replaced the fuses and also the circuit board on the driver side but we still don't have any lights when we're driving we have brake lights but no running tail lights do you have any ideas of what could be wrong ? Thank you for this video. Identifying which light is the break light was very helpful. My chevy eats tail lights. I replace them probably three times a year. Maybe its the circuit board.

Thanks for the educational video, seriously! OK! So I checked all the fuses, relays, even replaced the brake light switch, and NOTHING! My third brake light is not working so I have no frame or point of reference, where do I go from there? Thanks in advance!
The Problem I'm having is the rear parking light don't come on but when you hit the brakes they light up . I do have slight meltage as well in the brake bulb slot .. replacing the board should fix this issue as well?
I replaced my taillight boards and I still have no parking lights .. only brake lights when I hit the brakes .. fuses are good in front and back .. is there a relay or anything else I should look at? Thanks in advance
Just watched your great video great job.. I have a 1999 S10 the top mount brake light works but at the tail no go? I checked voltage from rear connector and no power when you step on brakes? Everything else works, turn signals, running lights, except stop lights? Can you please direct to the path! Thanks Danny...
Can you check for me? I checked all the fuses beaker circuit and fuse box in the motor also and all fuses and relays are good. Took off the connector in back by the bumper and had no power coming out when the brakes were applied. The white wire in the brake switch has power when the brake pedal is appliedd at the brake switch white wire?
I have a 2004 with the same issues. I watched this video and found that #12 fuse in the back and the passenger side circuit board bad. Replaced both and it's great! Thanks!
Thank you very much ! My 08 Trailblazer has no brake lights drivers and passenger side. Can it be that both Circuit boards are bad ? But the Center High mounted light works. I bought two bulbs thinking it was the brake lights.
Do the drivers side first! It actually connects to the passenger side! So it’s circuit board to replace first. The CMSL is mostly separate in it own circuit. 👍💯
So replacing the driver’s side circuit board fixed the passenger side as well or did you replace both driver and passenger side? Also what made you not check the brake light switch under the steering column? I was told if my fuses were good, I should then replace the brake light switch. Thanks for the video!!!
@@CheapGeek I changed the fuse from another the seat . The brake light now works. But when I lock the TB only the passenger side lights up. So I am assuming it's another fuse. I'll check it out.
Awesome video, very helpful...I just hope this information can be applied to my beater of a 1999 Ford F-250 Super Duty. I have tried everything (to my standards and everything else except these things). I can actually feel my manhood shrinking right now for not being able to resolve it. Thanks for this, RUclips's DIY videos are super, just super!
I have a 2006 trailblazer and i checked both fuses..both are good..my break lights is the middle bulb on the circuit board and when i put on my hazards the middle(break) bulbs are activated..can it still be my circuit boards..thanks and i know im a couple of years late in commenting and youre probably stop making videos on you tube as your driving your Mazzerati in the autobon in Germany.idk..hopefully you will respond cause i need to get out of the doghouse lol..thanks
Camacho J Have you taken a look at the actual circuit board itself? Both fuses in the fuse boxes hood and under seat are good? I’m leaning towards circuit board.. I still make videos ;) No autobahn or Maserati either. 😎
My 04 is similar I have to get new circuit board on driver side top bulb is melted but passenger side isn't so after I get circuit board should I be looking at fuses if only top bulbs work on both sides (I think there running lights on 04 model) I didn't kno if all three bulbs on each side run off same fuse I have already replaced all 6 bulbs
+Chris Pickens if I read your comment right, replace circuit board and check the fuses again.. circuit can effect both sides and multiple lights. Really a bad design...
Is there something here I'm missing the right brake lights didn't work so first I got new bulbs and put them in and they still didn't work then I checked the fuses in both boxes and neither of them were blown but when I took out the fuse from the box in the back and put it back in now both of my break lights don't work only the ones on the top
Yep. The left rear brake light assembly circuit board. If the fuses aren’t blown, then you remove the left rear tail light (drivers side rear) and check the circuit board where the light bulbs plug in. 80 % chance it needs to be replaced. Advance auto parts carries them last time I checked. The left tail light assembly also feeds the right tail light assembly. And the High mounted Stop light is connected as well. Check the left rear drivers side tail light assembly. If it look melty at all- replace it.
Same issue on 2002 Trailblazer. I found if I twist the circuit board from top to bottom after removal from the tail light it works as I twist then quits when I release. Replaced circuit board and issue solved.
Hey there I have an 07 trailer blazer both brake lights do not work 3rd light works I replaces both fuses and both brake light circuit boards I swapped bulbs nothing at this point I have tried all this stuff what am I missing what could be wrong I have reverse lights turn signals and tail nights and 3rd brake light works not right or left brake I'm at a loss
@@CheapGeek if the top light works wouldn't that mean the brake pedal switch is working properly this thing has me perplexed but unfortunately I still have to use the car as is and have limited time to work on it
If you’ve checked everything and replaced the circuit boards / bulbs....one of the only things left that connects everything- is the brake light switch. Also as much as everything is all connected- the 3rd light is separate from the brake lights assembly. The brake light switch sends a signal to the brake lights and a separate signal to the 3rd light. So if the switch is faulty, it’s possible that only the 3rd light is getting the brake light switch signal. I’d replace the brake light switch.
Just got a 2006 Trailblazer EXT with a similar problem. When I pulled the plug out of the tail light circuit board, three of the pins had rusted so badly they snapped clean off! Wound up having to cut the original plug and solder in a replacement, what a pain...
I'm having the same problem with an 05 trailblazer ext the lights turn on when the car is on but don't actually brighten up after you step on the brakes I checked the fuses they're good, checked the bulbs they're good too could it be the brake switch under the pedal?

You’re great. Now I know how to do things to my 08 trailblazer and know where the fuses are. Save me money. Thank you!
Oceana Hill You’re Welcome! I appreciate you watching 😉
CheapGeek you’re welcome ✊🏾
My man you are a godsend thank you so much and my 2002 Trailblazer also thank you!!😀
You’re Welcome!
Thanks man, had to diagnose a lady friend's trail blazer last night off the first video I saw👍
You’re Welcome! I appreciate the comment 😉
Just picked up a '09 Envoy SLT for work car. I really appreciate your "quick Fixes". Also enjoy your narration. God Bless.
Damn good video...it helped to fix my 08 Trail Blazer...Same problem with mine..
hussellman0123 devo Glad it worked 😎
Thanks it was the circuit board. Had it fixed less than ten minutes. Great video.
Very Nice! Thanks for letting me know and thanks for commenting! :)
I have a 2005 trailblazer ls with this same issue. Same process for that year?
It should be!
The Problem I'm having is the rear parking light don't come on but when you hit the brakes they light up . I do have slight meltage as well in the brake bulb slot .. replacing the board should fix this issue as well?
Brandon Ewen Yep, I would replace it.
Thank you .. you and other like you have created virtual forums .. keep up the awesome videos
Danny Vasquez Sounds like a fuse.. mine was the same. It was a fuse, in the second fuse box. not sure if a 99 has a second fuse box.
Can you check for me? I checked all the fuses beaker circuit and fuse box in the motor also and all fuses and relays are good. Took off the connector in back by the bumper and had no power coming out when the brakes were applied. The white wire in the brake switch has power when the brake pedal is appliedd at the brake switch white wire?
im having this same issue with my 04 chevy venture but i cant find a blown fuse but the bulbs keep getting blown out should i change the circut botd
I have a 2004 with the same issues. I watched this video and found that #12 fuse in the back and the passenger side circuit board bad. Replaced both and it's great! Thanks!
Yay! Another success. :) Glad it works now!
@@CheapGeek thank you very much. I will get started tomorrow.
Thanks CheepGeek, you helped me resolve the problem!!
Very Nice!
Thank you! My right rear brake light does not work but the light bulb is fine as it lights up when I use my remote to lock the vehicle.
So replacing the driver’s side circuit board fixed the passenger side as well or did you replace both driver and passenger side? Also what made you not check the brake light switch under the steering column? I was told if my fuses were good, I should then replace the brake light switch. Thanks for the video!!!
Can you do a video on the location of the Keyless Entry receiver on a 2005 Trailbazer...? I need that fixed too.
What's the purpose of the middle bulb I saw a Trailblazer tonight and it had the top and middle lights lit up
So if the passanger side works it cant ve a fuse right? Reverse works on both
Check the circuit board where the lightbulbs are installed. The driver side gets hot and some times melts.
@@CheapGeek I changed the fuse from another the seat . The brake light now works. But when I lock the TB only the passenger side lights up. So I am assuming it's another fuse. I'll check it out.
Man thank you a lot this video saved me in the middle of the road thanks man
You’re Welcome! Thanks for commenting👍
Also- The brake light switch on the pedal could be the culprit if everything is looking good...
CheapGeek it was the circuit boards..lol.
Thanks.
Do I need to replace both boards, because mine isn't working still
Thanx for the informative video. I am going to try finding out the problem on my Q7 now...
Did you have to change both circuit boards, or simply identify the problem board which caused both sides to not work?
Just the problem board. Just the driver side :)
Thank you for this great tutorial! So simple even a girl can do it. Lol
Circuit board replaced as well as a blown bulb. All in under an hour! Thanks!
+Stephanie Henry Excellent! Glad it worked :)
Thank you for this! Made life much easier for me this morning.
you're welcome! I appreciate the comment :)
If the fuses aren’t blown, then you remove the left rear tail light (drivers side rear)
and check the circuit board where the light bulbs plug in.
My right brake light doesn't work, but the bulb is fine and new. could it be some wire?
Hey there I have an 07 trailer blazer both brake lights do not work 3rd light works I replaces both fuses and both brake light circuit boards I swapped bulbs nothing at this point I have tried all this stuff what am I missing what could be wrong I have reverse lights turn signals and tail nights and 3rd brake light works not right or left brake I'm at a loss
I’d, at this point- Check brake pedal switch and maybe the hazard flasher relay.
@@CheapGeek dang alright who hard of a deal is the pedal switch going to be
@@morphsanmore2324 not too bad. Pretty easy overall. Tons of RUclipss on it. If you’ve got tips far, it’ll be easy for you 👍😉
I have same issue with 2005 Equinox. Do you know if same issues with my vehicle or what's the trick?? T.i.a
Sik Wit It Pelon Should be the same...
My Brake Lights Are On But Don't Show When I Stop
So I changed my fuses and bulbs still not working but when I hit the button to lock it, the lights comes on. What can you suggest to resolve ?
Just got a 2006 Trailblazer EXT with a similar problem. When I pulled the plug out of the tail light circuit board, three of the pins had rusted so badly they snapped clean off! Wound up having to cut the original plug and solder in a replacement, what a pain...
God. Bless. YOU! now my trailblazer ss can pass the inspection 😎
Thank You! Glad you can pass inspection! 👍
I'm having the same problem with an 05 trailblazer ext the lights turn on when the car is on but don't actually brighten up after you step on the brakes I checked the fuses they're good, checked the bulbs they're good too could it be the brake switch under the pedal?
Still sounds like a fuse or the circuit board.. :)
Let me know how you fixed it, will you pikeoner? I'll do the same. I believe it's the top lights of the stack in the back that are the brake lights.
