Hi Nathan. I'd just like to take a moment to thank you for all of the Chevy Trailblazer videos you have made. I just picked up an '06 Trailblazer needing some work and your videos have been of great help in getting me on the right track. I know how much effort it takes to shoot and edit these videos in addition to doing the workon the vehicle. So thanks again for what you have done. I, and I'm sure a lot of folks who don't leave comments, certainly appreciate it.
I sure am glad I saw this video when I did. I just crawled under my 06 Envoy to do this job and when I drained the old diff oil only about 4 or 5 ounces came out! Both drain and fill plug were loose too. Thank you sir!
Very true this front diff is notorious for leaking not just from the seals. You have to check the fluid at least once a month in the winter. I replaced my seals and it still has a slow leak.
Very helpful ! I like that your videos are edited well in a way that shows the pertinent info . To the point without the extra bs of other videos. Thumbs up for sure. And, Thank You !
Thank you from NY. 2003 Trailblazer 183,000 miles. Replaced a lot on this so by the time I'm done it should be like the Johnny Cash song. Pick a Part guys now know me by sight! Lol!
Thanks for putting the great video together. I like the idea of the funnel and tube - will make this job a LOT easier to re-fill the Front Diff. Thanks again!
I just bought a 2006 Saab 9-7X and I'm going thru it to make sure it lasts a long time. Thanks for the instructions and saving some serious money. Thanks from Connecticut
Great job! Clear and concise. Easy to follow and understand your instructions. Thanks. Glad I found this video. Times are tough and she's not pretty but runs good for her age. Gonna give a try when I change my oil today. Thanks again.
They used a liquid seal at the factory. Sometimes the machine that applied this sealant at the factory ran out of fluid. My differential was leaking from Day 1 until it finally broke and had to be replaced. GM would never admit the flaw.
I have an 01 blazer and did this 3 years ago. Had about the same! Mine was greenish yellow. I check mine every out change now! I have had the blazer now for 15 years.
Thanks for the great video. You were absolutely right about differentials always being neglected. I bought mine a few months ago and normally change all fluids but hadn't gotten to the differentials yet. I pulled that drain plug last night and about died.... I was dry. I got just under 1/2 a pint!
Thank you for your video. I just drained front fluid on my Saab 9-7x (GMT-360) and as suspected fluid was low. Believe my axle seals are losing fluid so cleaned area at the same time. Biggest laugh is I could not owners manual in video at 2:33 that list 2.6 pints at 0.8 liters....Grrrr on idiot that did basic conversion as it should be 1.2 liters of fluid. Thank you again for your post and reminding me to service front diff. Best regards, Mr. P
I did my front and rear and new seals, it looked pretty OK! 2004 GMC, glad it's done but Amsoil wasn't cheap + oem metal seal. It was nothing like that ^
Thanks for the video from Vancouver, WA. I have a 2002 Oldsmobile Bravada and will take your tips and save me some money on my differential fluid change.
Beautifully!! U are helping me like u have no idea. I got one of those chevy blazer and what you did am going to do it. I got this vehicle for my daughter so she can go to college
Reminds me of the time I drained the oil for a change and there was maybe a quart in the ENGINE!!! Yep, that's right.. it's at 173,000 miles now and still going great.. gonna do the differential soon...
Sweet deal I sure do really need to have this done on my 02 Chevy trailblazer LT too and besides for mine I have to have the whole differential replaced because of the bearings do go out too by the Shafts it was easy on the passenger side but the driver side is a whole different story to get done
Changed mine today. When I drained it the fluid didn't even coat the bottom of the drain pan. I was amazed at how little came out. Transfer case and rear diff were full.
I would imagine this is the same for the GMC Envoy. Good tip I will change the front diff oil. I was just going to do the rear because the gasket has a some sweating so I may aswell do the front. Northern Ontario Canada. I just retired my 96 Jimmy transition died.
I just got a 2005 trailblazer. Had all fluids changed except just added antifreeze. I was told the front differential was bone dry so it was good I had it done. An hour later the front end had a huge puddle from a leak and almost all the fluid was leaked out. I assume it's the front differential but I saw antifreeze in the leak im pretty sure. So I went straight home instead of going back to wingman oil change.
Explorers are not to bad. It seem like trailblazers have more issues. Mainly if one does go bad...its a job getting it out in the Trailbalzer to swap a diff! But good Idea to check the explorer.
Can the drain and fill both be done on the front diff and transfer case with It on ramps? Or does it need to be level ground when doing the fill? great videos Btw
Tip of the hat from Montana. Do you have a video(s) doing the rear end as well? Also; any other tips for Trail Blazers. Mine’s an ‘02 as well and misc problems popping up galore. Power steering has been stiff at low RPM’s for a bit.
My power steerings stiff at low rpms too, also an 02. Replaced all the ps lines cause they were viciously corroded. I'm trying to diagnose, will be changing a couple things this weekend so if I figure out why the ps has been stiff I'll let you know. Is your 4wd service light on? Mine is and I haven't figured out yet if that's related to the ps issue at all or not
I just want to comment about your statement about changing the front differential by removing the fan clutch an shroud and AC compressor and alternator. Removing the radiator was optional just protect it from damage. Also the AC compressor just needs the line mounting brackets disconnected so you don't have to evacuate the freon. I had tried getting 4 or more shops attempt the job but then turn it down because the shop manual has you pull the engine. The RUclips videos that have you disconnecting the motor mounts to jack the motor up is almost impossible. In every case you have to pull both front CV axles and remove the actuator mounted on the passenger side of the oil pan before pulling the differential. After that with the fan clutch etc removed I just laid the differential on the cross frame and then lifted it out from the front of the car. Replacement went so easy that I forgot to preinsert the rear mounting bolt in the differential an i had to remove it again to put it in place. As for a periodic check of the fluid level you only need to remove the fill plug and insert your finger in the hole to check the level. Here's one more tip for easy topping up, get a tight fitting tube and a small clamp to hold it in place. Cut the tip off the top of the bottle and place the tube on securely and clamp it. You only Ned a couple feet of tubing. Stick the open end of the tubing in the deferential and squeeze the bottle slowly watching the guild until a little drains out from the fill port. Check this every time you change the oil because access is easiest then and you already have everything ready to clean up a spill.
Hmmm .. There is a Imperial-SAE/Metric conversion error at t=2:19, 2.6 Pints = 1.23 Liters (not 0.8L) Therefore - you should put 1.3 Quarts in the Front Differential (2.6 pints is more than 1 quart, which is typically how 75w90 is sold / 32 oz./0.946 liter) here in the gold ole USofA that never wants to convert to metric.......)
@@FixingWithPassion So if you get an oil change - they are not filling the front differential oil at all? I thought it was all one system in the Trailblazer. thanks
Good afternoon friend and I looked at your videos that have been very useful to me, it has made my work easier more than anything, how to do things well beforehand, change the mass, guide me with your video, it was very useful, will you have a video how to remove the differential? it damaged me and I would like your help how to remove it my truck is a 2002 Oldsmobile bravada 4x4 I would appreciate it very much greetings

If you don’t mind. did you snug the bolts or over tight them?
I sure am glad I saw this video when I did. I just crawled under my 06 Envoy to do this job and when I drained the old diff oil only about 4 or 5 ounces came out! Both drain and fill plug were loose too. Thank you sir!

Great!!
Figured out why it was out of oil. The seal is leaking and slinging it out at highway speeds.
@@jbpooh sorry to bother you but which seal? what did you do to fix it or do you just keep adding oil or was it the fill plug
