Nice video Nathan. I've subscribed to your channel after watching you rebuilt the ford explorer. I've got an 03 explorer with 162000 miles on it and the trans is going on it. Motors in good shape it's a 4.0 v6. Should I have I have it replaced with a remanufactured one or have the original rebuilt. My friend has a trans for it but had 120000 on it and was thinking about swapping them while having the original rebuilt. Your thoughts please and thank you.

The 4L60E in the Trailblazer (and almost every other light duty RWD or 4WD GM vehicle from the 80s to about 2010) is a 4 speed overdrive transmission (4th gear is the overdrive). It has a lockup torque converter too, but that's not considered a gear. I don't think GM ever had a 5 speed longitudinal automatic. The 4 speed 4L60 and 4L80 were replaced with the 6 speed 6L80/6L90.

There are two versions of filters for this vehicle. Looks like you pulled out a shallow version and put in a deep version. Your pan looks like the deep version, so guess you fixed someone else's mistake on last trans oil change.

Nice work! I've done some at home "gentle flushes" before with disconnecting the trans cooler lines up front, put some vinyl tubing on them, run into a bucket marked in quarts. Start the truck, let it pump out 4-5 qts, shut it off, refill with the same amount, rinse & repeat several times. That seems to get the most old fluid out of it including the converter and doesn't hurt anything. Maybe try that next time since you won't need a filter.

I put dex6 in my trailblazer 2002. works great and it is back compatible... Dex 3 is not even suppose t be on the shelf its only there because of power steering pumps still needing it. however dex 6 works great with power steering as well...

Its typically a cris cross pattern from the middle working your way out. Other than that the video was good, just words of wisdom from someone who does it for a living.
