on a side note, Geddy has such an amazing amount of respect and empathy for the fans. It never ceases to surprise and impress me every time he takes the effort to connect with individuals, even after decades of performing. Inspiring.

Geddy is arguably the most respected musician of all time. All three of them for that matter.
There’s never been any scandal or hiatus-causing ego trip nonsense…
they’ve been married to their same wives since before they were ever discovered and signed, and still are today…
They really DO put forth the utmost effort they can to “share” the various gadgets they e used over the years that helped them get their sounds, and all that. There was ALWAYS a gear inventory for each of them contained in the programs with detailed explanations from each of them describing what they got going on 😮
And much more… I mean.. what the hell negative can one even say about them? I don’t think I could if I tried
But when you add it all up, I think the one thing that makes them so likable how they’re such ordinary people. Nothing eccentric about them at all, as they live similar lives as the most normal and ordinary people, like their typical average fan does. And the people find that to be so relatable and reassuring
This presentation Geddy has so nicely lit together was needed for both the fans and for himself.
It’s like time of laughs and final grieving where he’s closing the chapter collectively in person, as those in attendance can sort of close it with him. Then we can all move forward and on to the next chapter… whatever that might be for anyone

Certainly the most metrically and rhythmically complex short-form song they've ever written. Hard to find live performances of it, except that for one studio recording where they've slowed it down a bit

The Anarchist is a super hard song to sing and play but I hope he hasn’t forgotten about Turn the Page. Unfortunately I wouldn’t be surprised if he did forget since the band has admitted that several songs from the past fall through the cracks after not playing them live for a while.

That is what I was going to say (and not being much interested in their later output I don't know The Anarchist from The Garden from Rivendell). I do recall as I woodshedded Turn the Page (but not worrying about singing) that it was a real finger twister that you'd have to hone to muscle memory if you ever intended to do a vocal.

Exact;y! My first thought, but just had read the book and knew it was the anarchist. But if you listen to it now, you’ll see it’s actually harder than Turn The Page because rhythmically they’re both in sync. But in the anarchist the metering between the vocals and bass is off.

      @rickmontgomery3037 9 месяцев назад

I'm pretty much in the same boat as you, not familiar with that song or really their later output much either...So with that said, I'm more back the "other" direction, so the first "difficult to play & sing" tune that came to mind, which admittedly is one of theirs I enjoy probably the most of, is Circumstances...and a close 2nd to that would perhaps be The Big Money...@@michaelzilkowsky2936

Usually people who arent bassists and singers just assume its turn the page but that one is actually very easy because the verse bassline is totally linear. What i mean by that is its just all straight notes, no awkward pauses. Same reason vital signs is also easy to sing over.
But the chorus in anarchist, you can hear the bassline isnt just all straight notes. Some happen on the up beat, some on the down beat, and the vocal line is also alternating and really doesnt follow the bassline.
You could fumble through the anarchist bassline and it still sound ok, but to get it absolutely perfect is really hard.

@@johnsmith7140 TBH a lot of artists do that - they want to promote their new record and they're more excited to play new stuff on tour. Given how much time has passed though his affinity to CA is still pretty strong. I suspect had Rush continued, there would have been a continuation of the story/concept and I wish they had done it sooner.

I would say "Freewill", "Limelight", "Red Barchetta", "Natural Science", "Circumstances", "Fly By Night", and "Cygnus-X1 Book I & Book II" are all more difficult to sing and play bass simultaneously than "The Anarchist"
Then again, I'm not Geddy Lee, so...
