There’s a lot of overlap in wave size with those two so it’s going to be very much down to the fin setup to figure out if you need/want one. The Cado has that thruster feel so it’s tighter in the pocket and you can surf it top to bottom a bit more, I also find it easier on my backhand with the centre fin too….
How'd you get Rob Machado on your show!? Nice work. 🤘 Cado does look fun. I think I'd like that model as it reminds me of the Superbrand Fling with that wide tail. Seaside was great on its day but a bit limited in terms of types of days it liked. Mashup is a great versatile little board - love the Mashup.
hahaha i heard he was heading to Byron and reached out for a custom board and see if he would be keen to film some stuff. Really nice chap and super friendly! Indeed the Mashup is one of my favourites too!
Not sure when they’ll be back in stock, Firewire tends to get stock drops every couple of months though depending on demand - might be worth signing up to the “email me when back in stock” stuff
@@StokedForTravel I got a 5’8” that goes well, but it’s surprising how big it actually feels. Normal shortboards are 6’1”-6’3” in the 32-34 liter range. Being a groveler I figured the 5’8” would be the ticket. Like everything about it for the most part, but it might actually be a little too wide for my liking. I’ve ordered a 5’6” to compare. Thinking I can get more performance out of the 5’6” without giving up much groveling capability. Board feels like it’ll actually go really well on better days rather than junk waves. Looking throughout the size range there are some peculiarities in the way the scaled the dimensions. The 5’6” is actually thicker than the 5’8” for example.
Good to know your feedback! Indeed it's certainly a wide board for sure, I hadn't actually clocked the 5'6 v 5'8 comparison on the thickness, thanks for flagging that up! Let me know how you get on with the 5'6
Rob, does it pair well with your old glazer fins? Those were the only thruster fins I liked on my mashup. Otherwise it needs to be a quad for me. On the Too Fish now, riding it in everything, and love it. Love the fins too. Best board yet I think, and I swore by the seaside for two years! Too fish million times better. When does the ChadoCado come in a 5’5? The even thing isn’t working for me size wise meng!
I was shooting with Rob again today and asked about the Glazer fins and he said it could be a solid pairing, especially if you’ve enjoyed those fins in other boards too 🤙 Not sure on the other sizing options for the Cado but I agree, there’s some big jumps in there
@@StokedForTravel sick man! Thanks for asking about it. I still have a pair of those glazer fins in my glazer. I bought two pairs FCS when FCS was dumping them, not knowing FireWire was gonna dump FCS. All my FireWires are FCS2 except the Too Fish. So long as Rob keeps pairing his boards with fins I’m gonna go with what he suggests, cause they seem to work and make sense. I’ll eventually get this Chadocado but I’m sorta thinking glazer fins or the too fish twins are more familiar with regard to his, “generational iterations”, as I call them…cause each board seems like just a slight tweak, which is nice for guys that ride all his boards. They’re each new but not totally unfamiliar. I like that about Rob’s line. It’s like a journey your on riding his boards, each unlocking some new secret or level the last didn’t.
@@mikeuptegrove I like that train of thought on his board line! Like he mentioned it was original designed as a twin with the Machado keels so that would also be a solid choice. I haven't tested it out with that setup yet though but it's in the mix!
Working on my full Cado review and it’s actually a really easy board to surf, in fact as a guy who is most at home on longboards, both the Cado and Too Fish have been really fun!
@@StokedForTravel So just cosmetic, no advantages like strength like the volcanic finish? FYI; Australia has heaps of the swirl version available for sale.
@@rmarlin nah justa. cosmetic version of the standard helium build. Personally I prefer the helium over the volcanic in the shortboards, but volcanic over LFT or Ibolic for sure
I got to meet Rob too when he was on the Sunshine Coast, Total Legend! even got to share some waves with him at my local
Awesome times! He’s defo as laid back and chill in real life as he comes across online 🤙😊
Love Rob. Been watching him for YEARS. Ive never wanted to do contests but the freestyle free surfing idea. Started riding a fish because of him.
I think a lot of people have added fishes to their quivers after watching him! Such a legend 🤙
The perfect video as I shop for a new FireWire 👍
Stoked it helped! Which board you going with?
Really helpful. Love my seaside. Need to try the others..! Thanks
Glad it helped you out Jamie! It’s a good range of boards with lots of different personalities, that’s for sure!
Next model could be the CadoPescado and do a blend of the Cado and too fish
Hahaha love it!
The ceviche
That's the winner!
Hope to see more videos with you and Rob in the process of making the custom!
got a few videos in the works - including him shaping my Too Fish and also an epic interview with him as well so stay tuned for it!
@@StokedForTravel awesome subscribed and look forward to the video I ordered a custom seaside from Rob
@@Haffizy17 ah nice, enjoy!

Is that your board in the vid? Curious what size it is. Obviously much bigger than the one Rob rides.
Indeed that’s my board in the clip - I’m riding the 5’7, his is a biscuit 🤣🤣🤣

Damn the man machado
Indeed the legend himself!
What's most amazing about Rob is he can make anything work and look good. But not for me 😂
You should try the Mashup - great all rounder!
Originally a twin!? SHOULD OF MADE IT A TWINZER FIN. Best of both a twin and a quad but can hold like a thruster. Make a TWINZER fin board Rob!
Hahaha that would be epic hey?! Hopefully that’s in the pipeline soon!
These boards look like skim boards man.
Outside of your standard Ferrari boards that's for sure.

Nice looking board. Too small for me though
Surprising amount of volume and paddle power in there though, I was pleasantly surprised at it considering I usually ride much longer boards!
Can someone tell me about the grey swirl finish? Is it just a cosmetic thing, or is it something like the volcanic firewire finish?
They released it in a limited run of grey swirl in helium, but they were pretty hard to find apparently 🤙
