    Great video :) i'll hopefully be doing this to my 1.8 this weekend. Do you know if there is a huge difference between the 1.6 and 1.8 diff when welding?

    • @Project380
      @Project380  3 года назад +2

      as long as its an open diff then there is no difference

      @@MACTEP-il1eu oh damn 2 years ago, yeah I've welded several at this point. The only difference is the 1.6 is slightly smaller, but they're both the same. None of them broke btw! I drive hard too

    What did you put onro the bolts when resembling the diff. The ones on the inside that hold the outer gear inwards? I've got this to do yet I've bought a spare diff to weld then take the old one off and switch the shafts.
    Also what metal and thickness did you use for the welded plate?

    • @Project380
      @Project380  2 года назад

      just blue lock tight. i believe the metal was 5mm

    Hey Project380, just about to embark on this myself so thank you for the upload in advance. I wanted to know how to avoid having to adjust the rack and pinion and ring gear after removing the diff carrier. Did you have to adjust it again after removing the carrier? This is kind've my biggest fear haha

    • @Project380
      @Project380  2 месяца назад

      you can risk it and not take it apart, this is what most people do

      @@Project380 So you did have to readjust it? I see, thank you!

      @@Unmedicated_Moments yeah if your doing it the way i did and removing the gear then you have to re adjust it

    Is there any way to know what kind of diff you have before pulling it from the car?

    • @Project380
      @Project380  2 года назад

      yes there are a few ways, mainly pulling the drive shafts and looking inside. there are a few guides online that can easily be found. i may do a video on this in the future

      If you look through the tunnel from spline hole to spline hole an open diff has nothing in the hole. You’ll see a pin on lsd ones … I think ????

    How do you get the axles out I’ve been prying for an hour already but I also have the diff out of the car

    No worries about vibrations from being out of balance, or is it a non issue?

    • @Project380
      @Project380  Год назад

      if your gonna weld your diff vibration is the least of your worries 🤣😉.
      due to the small rotational mass its not that noticeable

  • @bobbybird9433
    @bobbybird9433 2 года назад +2

    Hahaha this is probably the worst thing I’ve ever done to an mx5 diff. So so bad hahah but there you go

    • @bobbybird9433
      @bobbybird9433 2 года назад +1

      Yeh I totally understand the point of doing it. It’s a much cheaper method than buying an expensive lsd and if you smash a welded one it’s no hassles to get another one and blaze it up
