This week, we task Ethan with the job of removing a differential from our £900 E36 compact, welding it up as best as he can, and then reinstalling it back into the car. All to see if a non-car guy can tackle the DIY drifter's first and most important job!

Ethan is a proper car guy : go in knowing nothing, swear a lot, hurt yourself, commit and persevere. Absolute chad.
Take apart car, realise need special tool in order to put it back together, leave car on axel stands for a week until said item arrives. I was well happy in that situation... 😂

@@MrZimmaframe Again, for content, putting it back in in record time with some banter thrown in adds a bit of enjoyment to the viewing (at least to mine). Give Ethan a break, he isn't in car mechanic school, they're just using his limited car knowledge to make cool shit, don't take it so seriously

Watching Ethan suffering fixing cars is my favorite thing in the world. Because I've been there and i know how he feels and how tough it actually is. Good job Ethan, Good job on the video guys. I would love to see Ethan changing a head gasket or a timing belt where the stakes are higher.
I'm concerned, Ethan speeding ahead of us viewers experience wise. Next he will buy a property with a big shop and start his own car related youtube channel I assume.

Jack has done a brilliant job stepping up to fill in where Alex would have been.
As a couple of others have said, I also love Ethan's lack of enthusiasm and almost hatred of being "made" to do things.
loving the vibe the channels still got even without alex. the entertainment value and the friendship you guys gave is lacking in his vids but the fun is still in yours so well done guys epic job.

That's what I say but you got to cut the top and heat the springs that is proper high school no money first car "look cool" if I say so myself, maybe even a sketchy PVC intake setup.
Can’t wait for Ethan’s “next build” now that he can basically do anything. Also surely a job with a top WRC team beckons for Jack and Edwin with their quick diff install skills lol
Love the interaction between these guys! Ethan is very relatable. Alex was always a bit OTT, this is easier viewing and entertaining.
I’ve got to say he wasn’t missed in this vid.
Alex is capable of making good videos but he can sometimes be very OTT any annoying. He needs to turn down the YT persona a tad.

You should weld all the wheels so they don’t turn and drop it sideways in Alex’s driveway
Alex will just do a generic "giveaway" vid with the sad music and all that tripe and simply dump it on some poor guys doorstep and start making out he's changed the guys life. That's basically Alex new channel in a nutshell an absolute disaster.

Since I like the fact that he uses cars to talk about subjects such as depression, mental health or just health and supporting each other in general, I was a bit surprised and sad but also curious to see this kind of content wasn't always appreciated, and that's why i went and asked you why you didn't like it, not to criticize your opinion or anything, but to understand your point of view mate 🙂

@@Naneychevelu I just want straight up car content mate no fluff. He's playing god with homeless guys and all this then a volvo build doesn't get built and the 20v fiat disappeared. I just went off it at that point.

Reminds me of when I tried to remove the lambda sensor from the exhaust of my old Celica. I pushed so hard, my shoulder ripped out of it's socket instead of the bolt turning. Completely messed it up to this day.
If you’re wanting to abuse the compact more, I’ve always wanted to see a spring relaxation lowering mod with an oxy acetylene torch. That and a continuation of Ethan’s drifting education with Ben Collins with it.

I've watched a couple of vids on RUclips today from youtubers I normally follow but never got to the end of them because of just how bored I got. But watching you guys is never dull! I'd love to be on site and watch the action live!
My first diff welding experience was when “working” at a golf course as a machine “fixer”. Basically spent my time in what was a scrap yard at the back of the golf course for the machinery and stuff rebuilding tractor and machinery engines and then building the ultimate scrap golf kart. Welded diffs and stock de restricting them was first then the 1.5 turbo diesel farm engine in the golf kart was the next thing. 20 years later and Weld diffs on e36/46 are the best thooooo for weekend fun.

I don't think Ethan is non-car guy anymore, but he's definitely the kind of car guy who pays someone else to work on his cars, so this is still super fun
I'm thinking about welding my diff but not sure about the streetability after it.. If maybe you could do a "non car guy lives with a welded diff" that would definitely help!

Maaaan, i had a complete blast with this video. 27 minutes just flew by. And Edwin is also such a cool bloke, ever since he refused to get into the Multipla and decided to walk home in the rain after school... Have to be honest though, really miss Alex and his overexcited nature. It's really odd btw - for the first time the more people you add to the show, the bigger the fun. At first it was just Ethan and Alex and when Jack started appearing regularly, it started to give these good old TG vibes and it was awesome. Then Gareth started appearing and even more fun was added, now Edwin is making more appearances and again, additional fun added. Never seen any show before that has so many charismatic people gathered together that makes me miss anyone, not featuring in an episode. You could start doing 8hour long specials with All 5 of the boys and i'll stand there and watch every single second of it.
Ethan is such a great sport. Love these vids.

Welding thick stuff like this with a mig really ain't hard. Thin sheet metal is where it's hard. Making nice looking beads is also hard, but in a diff it's both insanely thick and a case where what matters is good heat and penetration rather than a good looking bead. That makes the whole thing quite easy even for someone who never welded anything.
Alex's new channel is a joke he's already doing the X-factor sob story garbage with added sad music. It's a total let down the dude totally misjudged his audience he's deleting comments that call him out too so the comment thread is full of the American kids generic comments and bots.

@@Ian-zj1bu Gareth the so called mechanic that likes working on BMWs? No mechanic... and i mean NO MECHANIC worth their salt would ever describe BMW as anything other than fisher price junk. Gareth gets kicked out of every workshop he goes near, the dudes useless as it gets and can't get out of bed on time either.

had a mate with a welded diff on a nb mx5. said he regretted it. ended up chucking in an lsd from the 1.8. just didnt trust it. rear end would skip. id just save for the lsd. welded diff is very ghetto
@@danhunt6957 I would agree a welded diff is only if you want to have drift car only for drifting and not street driving and for groceries but it's still really fun to just put a piece of metal in the and go ham with the welder.

There is one very exciting thing you can learn to do with a car with a welded diff; drive it on two wheels. The stunt driver Russ Swift does it all the time with Minis.
