      That's more or less how they built the Superbowl team in 2017-18. Carson Wentz was still on his rookie deal that year, and they were stacked on both sides of the ball.
      Frankly, I think this year's team is even more talented and younger than that team, and Jalen Hurts is arguably a better QB with a better disposition than Wentz.

    The Eagles definitely hold the blueprint on how to build a SB contending roster but how lucky did we get drafting Jalen Hurts. Even if you don’t think he is an MVP/Superstar he is still an above average QB and those QBs are still a dime a dozen. And it’s not just his play on the field that stands out, it’s his leadership qualities and overall demeanor that has seemingly infected the entire franchise (in a positive way).
    I’m so glad we didn’t stick with Carson Wentz, I’m so glad we didn’t try and trade for Russell Wilson or Deshaun Watson, and I’m so glad that the Eagles front office gave Hurts the starting job and doubled down with a loaded roster! Howie Roseman’s work is surely paying off big time!

    • @Ocean5ix
      @Ocean5ix Год назад +3

      We did get lucky as a fanbase but the team wanted Jalen and went after him. They knew exactly the player they wanted and they did it because of Russell Wilson. It's widely known at this point that the Eagles loved Wilson in the draft and didn't pick him because teams were passing on him, so they expected him to be there in the 4th round. They didn't repeat the same mistake with Hurts and invested a second round on their guy even though their, at the time, "starting franchise QB" was in desperate need of WR talent.

      They generally get good return deals. It only seems like Philly steals them away because of the stockpile of picks they have, and how less in-need Philly is for players. Saints didn’t see CJGJ as a value, so picks are worth it to replace him. Philly was one good DB away from having an elite secondary, so it makes sense. AJ Brown is a “if we can’t pay him, we’ll get a first” which kinda panned out for them, his replacement isn’t horrible, but it looks bad because Brown is an elite player surrounded by talent. Generally, Roseman gives appropriately for the situations teams are in.

    You said it all pretty well. It's safe to say that two years ago, nobody in Philly was looking forward to what was ahead. After how Wentz feel flat big time that season, people here were firing Howie Roseman, and it wasn't wrongfully so, given the team was old and way over the salary cap. But they rolled with it the next season, and then Howie straight up said that he knew the team wasn't just a contender based off of the fact that we had won four years prior. He made all these great moves, and I was skeptical of the AJ Brown trade at first just because I felt like that was the kind of move you'd make if you knew you were in contention to get over the hump. Yet here we are. And while there were people picking us to win the division, I'd love to know just how many people had us winning the NFC. And we've had a handful of linemen who have been here for a long time, like Lane Johnson, Brandon Graham, Fletcher Cox, and most importantly, Jason Kelce. The end could be coming for them in due time, so we're hoping we can get this epic longtime quarter at least one more ring before they say goodbye. Hopefully we can beat the Chiefs to do just that.

      @stevebabiak6997 Год назад +3

      @@ReidVV - Howie has learned from many along the way. Joe Banner was in Philadelphia when Howie began, and he learned that the salary cap management was important, plus Banner had a practice of avoiding paying players over 30 years old (Howie learned that and adjusted that approach to be cautious when paying older players). From Andy Reid, the O line and D line must be strengths of the team, and a franchise caliber QB is a must. From Chip Kelly, size and speed can’t be coached. Howie has even admitted he has learned from Sirianni, that there is value in connecting on a personal basis with those around you.
      All along, team owner Lurie sends out the “team culture” message.
      So the challenge is to recognize when a nugget of wisdom is being placed before you, and grasping that nugget and then incorporating it into the overall plan.

      @@ReidVV - there is more of course. Howie has assistants and staff, and you will find that many of the higher level ones have been interviewed for positions on other teams.
      The scouting people can’t be omitted or forgotten.
      And he has learned that draft mistakes (even those from early rounds) have to be jettisoned for whatever value they might get back. Most recently the highest profile picks that were dumped would be Wentz, Reagor, and Arciega Whiteside.
      So there is a combination of being smart in the first place, realizing that there is still more that can be learned from others, and being willing to make adaptations. A good example of adaptation that goes back to the early Andy Reid years is the value of wide receiver talent; those early Andy Reid Eagles teams had meh wide receivers, until they brought in Terrell Owens and saw the difference talent can make. So they have drafted many wide receivers in early rounds (DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin were the first early round tandem), and some of those were misses (two of those players who were dumped).
      And don’t forget Howie’s “we want to be a QB factory” statement. That translates into having an understudy to the starter who will develop into a solid backup and possibly even displace the starter; trading away the expensive starter can help with salary cap so there is more to this. And the 2022 40whiners showed that QB is important.

That game goes into the half tied or a 3 point game with Purdy, easily. Then you never know what happens in the second half, because the 49ers certainly wouldn't just give up. Then once the Eagles defense is tired then bring on the borage of scoring
